IDK, Inc. is proud to announce the upcoming Feb 19th release of KeyRing/2, the
Secure Password Keeper for OS/2!
Are you tired of writing your passwords on yellow sticky notes or using the same
password for everything so you don't forget? Would you like a secure place to keep
all your passwords and secrets? Look no further!
KeyRing/2 acts like an impregnable safe filled with all your passwords. Only
you can open that safe with a master password.
KeyRing/2 is a secure database for all your passwords, product registration codes,
lock combinations, bank PINs, you name it. By entering a single password you can
instantly retrieve all your passwords and secrets.
The USA/Canada version of the program uses Blowfish (448 bit) encryption. This
military-grade encryption technology is generally much stronger than the password
security algorithms used in the web pages and applications you access.
The export version of KeyRing/2 uses DES (48 bit) to encrypt your secrets and
is user upgradable to 448 bit encryption, if the US encryption export laws allow.
KeyRing/2 can interact with your clipboard, allowing you to cut/paste your passwords
into any program running on your desktop. It can automatically launch Netscape and
open your favorite web sites that require passwords.
KeyRing/2 allows you to break your secrets up into several categories, allowing
you to find them quickly. With KeyRing/2, you can sort your secret databases in
many different ways.
KeyRing/2 can optionally assign an icon to each of your secrets to allow you
to find them quickly. KeyRing/2 has over 130 icons built in and you may use any
external ICO files you might have on hand. IDK, Inc. has a library of thousands
of icons available for free download.
We are applying for a crypto export license to allow the shipment of the Blowfish
version out of North America.. Stay tuned for further developments.
KeyRing/2 has the following features:
Manages many hundreds of secrets
Launches Netscape and opens your favorite secure web page
Changes Netscape's current URL if Netscape is already running
Uses very strong encryption (USA Version)
Can interact with most desktop applications via the clipboard
Extensive help built in
"Boss" key to hide your secrets from people peeking over your shoulder
User configurable - you can define column names in the database
Tracks age of passwords and warns you if they are old/expired
Languages supported: English and Spanish; Catalan coming soon.
Drag and drop interface
Generates random passwords in several styles
Multimedia support

F/X Communications announced today the second release of the Pluto IKE (Internet
Key Exchange) Server for OS/2.
The Pluto IKE Server for OS/2 is an extended and managed port of Pluto 1.1, found
in the Linux FreeS/WAN IPSec implementation. Pluto is released with source code
under the GNU General Public License - free of charge.
Pluto runs as a server and implements the IKE protocol (RFC 2409). It verifies
identifies, chooses security policies, and negotiates keys for IPSec (RFC 2401)
implementations.
IPSec (Internet Protocol Security) is an Internet standard for interconnected,
secure networking devices and the predominant technology in Virtual Private Networks
(VPNs).
New features in this OS/2 version:
* New support for 1DES strengthens the IPSec compatibility and provides a significant
speed advantage over the safer 3DES encryption.
* Aggressive mode ISAKMP negotiation provides compatibility with implementations
that rely on extended authentication, such as user accounts, certificates or soft
tokens. This is an area of continued testing - please e-mail support@fx.dk
for the latest developments.
* Extended Road Warrior support for remote branch offices that has the IPSec
gateway on a dynamic IP address. Previously Road Warriors were defined to be individual
users.
* Fixed a problem with TCP/IP 4.1 and aliases.
Successfully tested with these 3rd party IPSec implementations:
1.F-Secure VPN+ 4.2 for Windows
2.PGPnet 6.5.2a IPSEC Client from Network Associates
The IPSec Plugin is released as part of the InJoy Dialer (dial-out), InJoy Connect"
(dial-in) and the InJoy Firewall. The Plugin enables these products to serve as
an IPSec gateway, an IPSec server or as a simple VPN Client.
The release of an IKE Server and IPSec support for OS/2 is exciting news for
enterprises seeking to provide secure connectivity for OS/2 branch offices, business
partners, and travelling employees as well as data communications in the local area
networks (intranet security).
Notice version 1.1 of Pluto is NOT compatible with previous versions of the InJoy
IPSec plugin. A new Plugin will be released shortly.

Network Packet Capture Software Lowers TCO of OS/2 and WorkSpace On-Demand* Environments
Orlando, Florida, February 1, 2000 -- Golden Code Development Corporation today
announced Network Trace for OS/2, its network packet capture software for OS/2.
With Network Trace, network administrators can turn every OS/2 machine on their
network into a network probe. Easily accessible via existing remote management technologies,
such as telnet, it enables trace data to be gathered on any segment of the network
from a centralized location, in minutes. Since Network Trace is a software-only
implementation, there is no need for dedicated hardware.
"Typically, a large proportion of the time spent analyzing a network problem
is wasted sending a network engineer to a remote site to gather trace data.",
said Greg Shah, president and co-founder of Golden Code. "With Network Trace,
this cost is eliminated; network engineers can focus their time on analyzing traces,
rather than generating them."
Highlights
An invaluable aid in problem analysis, client-server application development,
performance tuning, preventative maintenance, and profiling, Network Trace for OS/2
offers:
- Hardware-independence. Network Trace can be used with a wide range of network
hardware - for example: 16/4 Token Ring, 10/100 Ethernet, wireless LANs, infrared,
FDDI, and ATM. Because it is a software-only implementation, it will work with any
speed adapter, including 100 Mbps Ethernet. This is achieved by interfacing with
any NDIS 2.01 compliant MAC driver.
- Reliability. Network Trace works reliably in stressful environments, tracing
WorkSpace On-Demand/RIPL boot storms of 40+ machines without dropping frames!
- Power. Network Trace forms the basis of a powerful, portable tracing solution
when installed on a single, network-enabled notebook computer. However, its true
benefits are realized when the software is deployed throughout the enterprise. In
such an integrated configuration, any remote OS/2 machine can produce traces, when
accessed from a central location using existing remote management technologies.
- Versatility. In order to support the widest range of customer environments,
Network Trace has a command line interface. This simplifies remote use and enables
automation via REXX. The trace files generated are Sniffer*-compatible, making them
readable by most existing network analyzer tools and with the forthcoming Golden
Code Trace AnalyzerTM.
- Low Overhead. Network Trace has minimal impact on system resources when it
is dormant: 0% CPU utilization and less than 15KB RAM utilization.
- Convenience. Since it is an NDIS 2.01 protocol, Network Trace requires neither
dedicated hardware nor a hardware key. In its standard mode of operation, it does
not interfere with the normal network activity of the installed machine.
Availability
Product sales and demonstration versions of Network Trace for OS/2 will be available
directly from Golden Code Development, beginning February 14, 2000. For additional

The February "Warped Perspective" has been posted at OS/2 Headquarters:
This month's article deals with the issue of product naming and numbering schemes,
and recommends a new point release for OS/2 -- as well as an appropriate name for
it.
I have released version 2.11 of the LPTool utility, wich has a few MAJOR fixes
supporting directory synchronisation.
The LPTS.CMD REXX macro now performs synchronisation of directories (or complete
trees) in one or two directions based on date and time information on each side.
There is also better support for configuring LPTool for different LPT port addresses
(DEVICE command and LPTDD.CMD)
For those of you that don't know LPTool yet, its main purpose is file-transfer
using a standard LapLink parallel cable connection (same cable as LapLink, MS Windows
INTRSRV etc). It is being used mainly for synchronization of laptops that do not
have network connectivity.
It is not very fast (max 45 Kb/sec) but reliable...
It also supports remote execution of commands over the cable, including redirection
of output (similar to TCP/IP REXEC).
At the moment, only an OS/2 version exists, so you cannot exchange files with
a Windows or Linux machine.
You can get LPTool from my web-site:
LPTool, just like my DFSee utility, is FREEWARE. There is a nice screen-shot
with additional information there as well.
There is a new outfit in Seattle, WA called Xcentric Media Design that offers
free web based e-mail services, along with web hosting, web page design, network
design, and REXX programming services, etc. They can be found at:
OS/2 is mentioned on their web page as a supported environment, ~I see that here
are additional references to both Netscape for OS/2 and Warp Server for E-Business.
