SW: OS/2 and eCS Modem Site Updated

15 Jan 2005 22:57:04

From: martin@DESPAM.os2world.com

I just found out that Doug Bissett had updated the OS/2 and eCS Modem Site
(2005/01/05)

Visit the modem page from:
http://www.os2warp.be/index2.php

Doug had made a great work putting up a newer modem list for the OS/2
dialer (http://www.os2warp.be/modems/modem.lst)

Remember that if you have an OS/2 working modem that is not on that list,
send it to Doug by using this form:
http://www.os2warp.be/index2.php?name=reportmodem

Url: http://www.os2warp.be/index2.php?name=modemshome

SW: More Info on Netdrive 3.0 release

15 Jan 2005 21:26:23

From: "Sander Nyman"

Here is more complete information on the new Netdrive 3.0 release:

The new release of the virtual file system has various enhancements and
new features. Main changes are:

* * Support for files greater than 2 gigabytes on local and FTP resources
as well as new external plugin interface for large files. * * Redesigned
Control Panel includes convenient user interface, updated online help and
user's guide * * Virtual volumes configuration is automatically saved and
restored on system restart. * * Improved performance

This version requires at least OS/2 Warp 4 Fix Pack 13, OS/2 Warp Server
for e-business, OS/2 Warp 4 Convenience Package (MCP) or eComStation and
will not work with earlier OS/2 versions.

NetDrive for OS/2 version 3.0, including the FTP plugin, is a free upgrade
for registered customers who purchased version 2.2.2 released in September
2004.

For registered customers with earlier versions there is a $7.00 upgrade
fee.

If you have a previous version and wish to upgrade to version 3.0 contact
us via email at orders@bmtmicro.net and supply your NetDrive for OS/2
serial number and the name that NetDrive for OS/2 was registered in.
Please note that your old serial number will no longer work with version
3.0 or higher.

The installation program can update an existing installation of NetDrive
for OS/2, previous settings will be preserved.

Download the version from:
http://www.blueprintsoftwareworks.com/netdrive/download.html

What Netdrive can do for you:

* Maps all network resources that usually have to be mapped to a number
of different drive letters via a net use command to a single drive letter
as regular directories.

* Mounts almost any FTP server as a regular directory. You can use your
favorite file manager to browse content on an ftp server and download
files to your local disk.

* Allows you to listen mp3 music or play any other multimedia files
directly from a ftp server using your favorite player.

* Integration with the new version of FileStar/2 allows you easier access
than ever to NetDrive's features.

* External plugins allow one to mount a variety of different sources.

SW: par2cmdline 0.4 on hobbes

15 Jan 2005 14:52:22

Forwarded message from "Trevor Hemsley" on Thu, 13 Jan 2005 18:25:31 UTC
Posted on: comp.os.os2.apps

This is an OS/2 EMX port of the command line version of the program from
http://parchive.sourceforge.net/

From the readme file "par2cmdline is a program for creating and using PAR2
files to detect damage in data files and repair them if necessary. It can
be used with any kind of file. ".

It's used frequently on various binary newsgroups in order to reconstruct
partial or corrupted downloads.

I made no source changes to this to make it work - all effort was put into
making it compile! If you find a bug in this, go grab the source and fix
it yourself!!

You can download this from

or from

SW: Mr. Message (AIM client) 1/13/2005 update

14 Jan 2005 09:25:53

Forwarded message from Marty on Fri, 14 Jan 2005
07:07:44 UTC Posted on: comp.os.os2.apps

Mr. Message for OS/2 is an instant messenger client which is capable of
communicating over AOL's Instant Messenger network using the OSCAR
protocol (used in the Win32 AIM clients, jBuddy, gAIM, Kopete, ICQ, and
a variety of other clients).

It has been updated with the following changes:

* Added a new debugging framework similar to eFence (primitive
form of software like Purify) for detecting and locating memory
leaks and bad or doubled memory frees.
(Enable this in a custom build in compatibility.h by defining
MRM_DEBUG_MEMORY.)
* Loads of memory leaks were fixed that I never knew existed. * Several
bad frees during initialization were fixed.
* Fixed a field length error when there is a hard line break in the
middle of a profile or away message.
* Prevented popping up multiple instances of the Profile and Away
Message editing windows for one given session.

You can download it here:
http://mamodeo.dyndns.org/MrMessage_bin_01132005.zip
or with the full source code here:
http://mamodeo.dyndns.org/MrMessage_srcbin_01132005.zip

There is also a WarpIn installation package here:
http://mamodeo.dyndns.org/MrMessage_01132005.wpi

Please read the README file before running or asking for support. As
always, feedback is appreciated.

SW: Unofficial Mozilla 1.8a6 now available

13 Jan 2005 09:06:20

Forwarded message from "Peter Weilbacher" on Thu, 13 Jan 2005 02:38:01 UTC
Posted on news://secnews.netscape.com/netscape.public.mozilla.os2

Hi all,

as usual I have created an unofficial build of Mozilla 1.8alpha6 (the
last alpha for 1.8). I guess there will be an official build, too. Mine
has four advantages:
- MNG/JNG graphics/animations support
- a standard configuration to support horizontal scrollwheel by default
(bug 231718)
- no stupid help menu item for IE users (bug 255611)
- support for set NSPR_OS2_NO_HIRES_TIMER=1 (bug 277514) to be nice to
time-critical (multimedia) apps (perhaps this will in the official one,
too?)

You can get the Mozilla suite both as installer and as ZIP from the
builds page in my sig, but be aware that you might need to reload the
_frame_ in case you have the old page cached. Direct links which can
vanish at any time:
http://weilbacher.org/Mozilla/mozilla-os2-1.8a6-unofficial-installer.exe
http://weilbacher.org/Mozilla/mozilla-os2-1.8a6-unofficial.zip

I sincerely hope that this build has less bugs than the recent NVU
release, but before anyone asks: the MailNews drag-and-drop crash bug is
not yet fixed AFAIK.

SW: postgreSQL V8.0 RC5 release

13 Jan 2005 08:45:41

From: lsunleyDESPAM@mb.sympatico.ca

PostgreSQL is a full featured database engine suitable for most database
applications. ODBC support is available through the unixODBC for OS/2
libraries also available at http://hobbes.nmsu.edu

I have placed a build of postgreSQL v8.0 RC5 on Hobbes.

New things for 8.0 rc5

- updated to 8.0 rc5 code level
- custom LIBC06 build to resolve some LIBC problems

Fixes for rc5

- built with a custom LIBC06B3 that corrects the problem with loading DLLs
into a fork() process - previous workaround has been removed. This
version
of LIBC06 also has a tentative fix for the signal processing problem
that
would hang the database engine after 40 or 50 query sessions.

Known problems

- the conversion.sql test in the regression test series will crash the
query
session. This problem is worked on.

SW: Doodle's Screen Saver v1.2 in German

12 Jan 2005 21:43:46

From: christian.henneckeDESPAM@os2voice.org

Christian Hennecke has released a German language version of Doodle's
Screen Saver v1.2.

This is a new screen saver solution for OS/2 and eComStation systems. Its
main goal was to have an open-source screen saver which can be developed
further by others, if needed, and which can co-operate with third party
applications, like WarpVision, so the screen saver will not activate
itself while the user watches a movie.

The screen saver integrates itself into the WPS, replacing the old Lockup
facility with an extendable screen saver.

New in version 1.2:
- Added DPMS support for systems running Scitech SNAP
- Added feature of Delayed password protection
- Added feature of Start saver module on startup
- Double-clicking on a saver module now means "Use this module"
- Fixed DLL termination routine, causing infinite loop with misbehaving
applications
- SSCore_TempDisable() API now stops the screensaver if it's running
- Modified all three saver modules (Blank, eCSBall, IFSIM) to stay on
top of
xCenter window, and made their password windows bigger to avoid text
cutting
- Modified SSCore, so it won't start saver module if the PM is not in
foreground
- Mouse button release doesn't turn off saver now

SW: NVU 0.70 released

11 Jan 2005 14:00:00

Forwarded message from "Peter Weilbacher" on Tue, 11 Jan 2005 00:30:53 UTC
Posted on: news://secnews.netscape.com/netscape.public.mozilla.os2

Hi all,

I have just finished uploading the newest OS/2 version of the NVU
("N-view") next generation HTML+CSS editor based on Mozilla code. My
package now includes both the English (en-US) and German (de-DE) language
version, where en-US is the default. If you want de-DE start NVU with
"-UIlocale de-DE" as extra parameters. For other tricks see the contained
file ReadMe.OS2. People who want to try all the features of NVU might
find the help pages useful, they are accessible via Help->Help Contents
and thanks to the great effort of Thorsten Fritz also fully available in
German!

The package is available from my Mozilla builds page
http://weilbacher.org/Mozilla/builds.html
or directly as
http://weilbacher.org/Mozilla/nvu-0.70-os2.zip

If you have problems with this package, please post here in
news://secnews.netscape.com/netscape.public.mozilla.os2 or mail me.

OS/2 relevant changes since 0.60 (from Daniel Glazman's announcement): *
Nvu is now based on Firefox 1.0 codebase! Many thanks to Benjamin
Smedberg for his crucial help.
* As a side-effect of the above, the Extensions and Themes managers now
work correctly. A few extensions are available from there. Developers
willing to create new extensions or themes for Nvu need its
application ID.
* The character set can be changed on the fly and chosen by default in
the preferences.
* ? character added to the Insert Special Characters dialog.
* PHP processing instructions were incorrectly serialized with a leading
>?php, this is now fixed :-)
* Publishing a document was firing an alert, it's now gone.
* The Inline Spell Checker is turned OFF by default because it
drastically impacts performance when you save a loooong document or
switch back from source to normal view.
* Source view enhanced to prepare line numbering (should be available in
0.80)
* Context-click on the last tab to close it left the tabeditor grey,
this is now fixed
* Editing the source view and switching back does not double the
contents of the document any longer
* Progress on non-localizable strings although it's still a work in
progress (thanks to Flore and Bob for the list)
* Localization uses the composer/locales directory.
* oh, and of course, nvu -edit now launches the app AND opens the
requested document :-) Please don't forget /home/glazman/foo.html and
C:\home\glazman\foo.html are not URLs...
file:///home/glazman/foo.html
is a URL...

Note also: Because NVU is still in the pre-1.0 phase I think it is
expected that you remove your profile before starting the new version. At
least you might want to delete XUL.mfl and chrome/chrome.rdf.

PostgreSQL is a full featured database engine suitable for most database

I have placed a build of postgreSQL v8.0 RC4 on Hobbes.

PostgreSQL:

This version has a couple of fixes for OS/2 specific problems, the loading
of function DLLs now works and the --help command line switch works for
psql.exe

A session logfile facility is now available for psql.exe, the -L
logfile-name switch on the psql command line is used to turn on the
logfile facility. The output for the log is appended to an existing log
file of the same name.

The LIBC runtime appears to have a bug in its signal handling that will
cause the server to hang after 40 or 50 query sessions. This bug affects
all builds.
