Today I downloaded cardbus.exe from the IBM ftp site (ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/os2ddpak). It contains copies of pcm2ata.add, pcmcia.sys, and os2pcard.dmd which are newer than those found on the installation CD. I copied all of these manually to os2\boot, but the card reader couldn't read a card unless I used the copy of pcmcia.sys from the instal16 subdirectory (add the -d parameter to cardbus.exe before running), which is the 16 bit stuff. The copy in instalcb is 32 bit, and it wouldn't work. I suspect this may be because my PC-700 card reader is ISA. And the conflict with par2824.sys still happens.
I've also seen it recommended that card services not be installed with an initial install but added later.
