Contact/2 version 1.30 has been released.
This is a powerfull address manager for OS/2 and eCs.
It is designed to be the central address database at your Desktop.
New in this version:
- PMFax export filter
- DragText enabled
and a bunch of little improvements and enhancements...
More informations and download links:
http://www.subsys.de/contact/
This application is shareware, but there is a full functional demo
version.
Note 1: For VOICE members this program is free! Please contact VOICE for
more details how to get the full version.
Note 2: The program comes with a german and an english user interface. But
the english documentation is at a previous version level, because it
seems to be that there is no interest from non-german speaking folks. The
german documentation has been refreshed to the latest features. If there
is some *true* interest for the english version we will complete the
english documentation, and we will open a distribution channel for
international customers. In this case please let us know...

RocksnDiamonds
Hi, I've built and uploaded Rocksndiamonds to Hobbes:
Hobbes Search:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=rocksndiamonds
Download:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/games/puzzle/rocksndiamonds-3.0.8.zip
Rocksndiamonds is a boulderdash, sokaban, etc type game that runs under
XFree86 on OS/2. Also runs fine under Hoblink X11 as long as you have the
XFree86 libraries (DLLs). Unluckily there is no sound or joystick support.
See artsoft.org which has more levels, a DOS version that runs fine in a
DOS full screen session, plus WIN32 and Linux builds.
Microsoft lawyer to be on antitrust panel
Sorry for the off-topic post, but people should know what is going on and
this kind of conniving tends to not make the public news.
http://www.salon.com/tech/wire/2004/02/05/microsoft/index.html
"Feb. 5, 2004 | WASHINGTON (AP) -- Stung by earlier court rulings,
Microsoft Corp. has positioned one of its top lawyers to run a legal
committee to influence how much oversight U.S. courts exercise in
antitrust settlements like the one the company negotiated with the Bush
administration.
The debate over how aggressively federal judges should scrutinize these
settlements is pivotal in the next major ruling in Microsoft's
long-running antitrust case, a decision that could come as early as
Friday. "
20040206 kernels
Yet another new set of kernels for OS/2 on IBM's Testcase FTP server
today. Download from ftp://testcase.boulder.ibm.com/ps/fromibm/os2/ .bugs:
"I uploaded new builds of os2ldr and os2krnl (14.097h)
- backs out bogus os2ldr changes
- fixes a trap you can get when changing removable media when
the CWD is still on that drive"
From the Readme:
"This contains fixes since xr_e002/xr_m015/mcp/acp. Important note: If you
use the OS/2 SES facility, you need a new sesdd32.sys dated April 2001 or
later to use this kernel. Also, a matching dump formatter (df_ret.exe),
provided separately, is required, if you want to analyze a dump from this
kernel. Finally, note that os2ldr is only required for the >64mb memory
detection mentioned below."
As always these are not officially supported by IBM unless they tell you
to use them.
**** Please send any followup to comp.os.os2.bugs on usenet. ****
Also note that files are only on IBM's testcase for 2-3 days, so if you
want to try these get them now. Make certain you back up any files
replaced and don't try these on a production system. Read any readme file
before applying any changes. If your system is working well, and you have
no problems addressed by these updates, do yourself a favour and don't
mess with this. You have been warned.
The UNI and SMP files are for WSeB/ACP/eCS Pro (SMP kernel) and the W4
files are for post FP15/MCP versions, including eComStation. Only use the
SMP kernel on a machine with more then one CPU.]
From the readme file:
Fixes to problems that exist in released code:
20040206 14.097h
PJ29602 trap 000d at h_DOS_ChDir + 28 or so after media change
- backed out bogus os2ldr changes (again)
IBM developerWorks - migrate from OS/2 to Linux
Greetings Fellow OS/2 Users,
I thought this article from IBM developerWorks might be of interest to
those of you who develop on OS/2 and perhaps to some who do not:
> ::: Migrate your apps from OS/2 to Linux, Part 1 :::
> IBM loves Linux. And why not? It's fast, it's reliable, it's coherent,
> and it's flexible -- in short, it's everything you want an operating
> system to be. It's also the recommended migration path for OS/2 users.
> In the first of a three-part series, ace IBM programmers describe the
> similarities and differences between OS/2 and Linux threading models,
> with an eye to easing your migration path.
FYI, this article covers threading on OS/2 and Linux. Apparently it is the
first in a series of such articles.

IBM Discontinues DDK Updates!
" As of January 1st, 2004 updates to the OS/2 Device Driver Kit have been
discontinued."
http://www3.software.ibm.com/regsvs/ddk/
Some of the files are for pcmcia drivers. [Moderator note: These files are
the source for device drivers, such as Cardbus, printer, display, DASD,
etc. The site requires a DDK logon registration, but I believe that is
free.]
If one needs them, it is best to download them before they are gone. Some
have dates of 12-2003 or 01-2004.
Lone Peak Automation Announcement
We would like to inform you that Lone Peak Automation has decided to
immediately release all of their shareware products as freeware. The
programs included are UPS Monitor, a series of programs that interface to
a large number of uninteruptible power supplies and HOUSE/2, a home
automation program using X10 devices and supporting three popular X10
controllers.
All registration limitations will be removed and programs will be fully
functional once the work is complete. The UPS Monitor programs are already
available and the HOUSE/2 programs will follow soon.
We want to take this opportunity to thank all of the OS/2 and eComStation
users who have registered these products in the past. You have made these
products possible through your support and we will not forget you.
Lone Peak Automation will NOT cease operation nor will we abandon our
products. Lone Peak Automation will continue to support our products as
needed. We will do our best to solve any problems that may arise.
Registered users will obviously get priority for this support.
Any new users who find our programs useful and would like to see
accelerated development and/or support are invited to contribute to the
development effort on a purely voluntary basis.
Over the last few years, Lone Peak Automation has released a number of new
and unique programs for OS/2 and eComStation. Just a few samples:
Cumulus is a weather station program that has been running non-stop for
over two years and reports weather to the Citizen's WeatherNet on the
internet. You will require to purchase your own weather station but
Cumulus is free and available upon request. See our new website for
information.
We have recently released free REXX libraries and utilities for image
conversion and processing and also released a utility to read EXIF image
data from digital camera pictures. You can now easily do batch processing
on your digital camera pictures with just a few simple REXX commands.
Samples and full documentation is included.

FAT32 IFS 0.98b
http://fat32.netlabs.org/index.phtml
"Version 0.98 contains fixes, new and polished documentation, and is
intended to be install on LVM systems or systems that have either Daniela
Engert's DaniDASD.DMD or the partfilt.flt driver already installed, which
should cover nearly 100% of the existing FAT32.IFS users, so installation
and deinstallation have become greatly simplified. Now available both as a
