The three days of OS/2 sessions at WarpTech 2000 are now completely scheduled, and a more-sessions-than-timeslots situation may force WarpTech to expand.

"We're looking at adding more meeting rooms" reports Craig Greenwood, the WarpTech Captain. "We planned for three full days and the schedule is already full."

The WarpTech Sessions page is at:

http://www.warptech.org/WTSessions.html

"We may add evening sessions," suggests Esther Schindler, the WarpTech Program Chair for the show. "Participants will be able to attend more sessions if we start earlier and end later each day.

The Exhibitor Hall hours would also be lengthened "with an after-dinner hour," adds Craig Greenwood. "That would give some extra time for attendees and vendors to be together."

Three expanded days of OS/2. Come to WarpTech!

CrossTec Corporation will be releasing the newest version of NetOp Remote Control v6.5 at Spring Comdex next week in Chicago. Since the release of v6.0 last April NetOp has won several awards and has found itself repeatedly on the "short list" of remote control products mentioned in tech pubs and being evaluated and used by corporations.

For NetOp 6.5 the developers have added support for Windows (NT) Security, GDI hooking for fast Windows 2000 control and a new software deployment option. File Transfers are now up to 30% faster and NetOp v6.5 has some additional support provider and help desk features.

If you are going to Comdex I hope you can stop by booth 2944 and see NetOp v6.5 in action. If you are not going to Chicago this year and would like a review copy or some additional information please email me at doug@crossteccorp.com or call 800-675-0729.

I hope to see you next week.

NEWS RELEASE - Spring Comdex 2000

CrossTec to release new version of NetOp Remote Control at Spring Comdex

CrossTec to release new version of NetOp Remote Control at Spring Comdex

Full Windows 2000 support, tight integration with Windows security, and easy software deployment via push technology added to award winning remote control tool

Comdex - Booth 2944 -- Chicago, IL (April, 18, 2000) - CrossTec Corporation has released the latest version of Danware Data's NetOp Remote Control v6.5, which adds full support for Windows 2000 PC's in addition to support for Windows NT, 98/95, Windows 3.1x, DOS and OS/2. NetOp Remote Control v6.5 continues to improve on the product's position as a leading corporate remote control solution by adding integration with Windows security management and a new two-tier push technology for fast and easy software deployment and distribution to target PCs. The new version also provides additional remote connectivity options and a marker mode enabling a user to 'draw' on the remote PC to highlight items or for training purposes.

Developed by Copenhagen, Denmark based Danware Data A/S as a network support tool in 1987, the award winning NetOp Remote Control continues to provide extremely fast and stable remote control and problem management solutions for distant workers, network administrators and support professionals world-wide. NetOp enables secure cross-platform control or monitoring of multiple Windows, DOS and OS/2 machines over networks, modems and the Internet. With NetOp, authorized users can view the remote PC's screen and control its keyboard and mouse just as if they were seated in front of the distant PC.

Along with supporting both GDI Hooks and Bitmap graphics modes for Microsoft's new Windows 2000 operating system, NetOp Remote Control v6.5 features tight integration with Windows security management also known as Windows NT Security. NetOp v6.5 takes advantage of Windows security management to validate passwords, provide access rights to groups and safeguard servers.

NetOp Remote Control v6.5 provides several new remote connectivity options including the ability to connect over the UDP or TCP protocol for faster and more flexible TCP/IP Internet communication. NetOp Remote Control v6.5 also introduces the ability to connect to a specific distant PC by name or user. Traditionally, remote control software enables a user to connect to a specific PC but now NetOp offers the ability to connect to the PC where a certain person may be logged-in as a Windows user. So without knowing exactly which PC the user is working on, an administrator can monitor that PC or establish a remote control, chat or file transfer session with the user.

Another new remote connectivity option in NetOp Remote Control v6.5 is support for Infrared (IrDA) communication. Communication over Infrared offers up to 4MB connection speed between two computers, which is faster and easier to use than connecting two computers over parallel or serial cables. Infrared is ideal for synchronizing files between two PCs or for an on-site support person who needs to connect to network PCs but can not hook their Laptop physically up to the LAN. Using Infrared, the Laptop communicates with the NetOp Gateway module, which will route the remote control session between the Laptop and any networked PC running TCP/IP, NetBios or IPX.

NetOp Remote Control v6.5 dramatically improves the speed of file transfers. The NetOp File Manager, which is up to 30% faster then previous versions, offers users fast and easy drag and drop file transfers with a split screen view, copy and move options, synchronization of directories, crash recovery, session history and an advanced delta file transfer option, ensuring that only file changes are transferred. NetOp also includes a powerful scripting tool for automated file transfers and program launching. The Scripting tool enables users to schedule and define tasks based on a batch type language. Programmers can also use popular languages such as Visual Basic to create more powerful scripts via Active X controls.

NetOp Remote Control uses minimal system resources, allowing it to be fully loaded at all times. This enables authorized persons easy access to mission critical resources from the desktop, home or anywhere else via modem, networks or the Internet. NetOp also provides a "Stealth Mode" which means the host portion of the program can be loaded on a PC without the user knowing it is there. The stealth mode is ideal for monitoring servers, employees, stand-alone kiosks or students.

NetOp is available in combined guest/host packages starting at $165 US or as stand-alone modules for maximum flexibility. Reseller pricing, combo packs and site-licensing pricing are available. NetOp products, along with personalized pre and post sale support, are available from CrossTec or authorized resellers. For a free fully functional evaluation copy and additional information visit the CrossTec web site at http://www.CrossTecCorp.com or call 800-675-0729.

Larsen Commander is upgraded to version 1.1.4. You can download it and find more information at

http://home.sol.no/~leilarse/lcmd/index.html

This is a minor upgrade that fixes the bug in 1.1.3 that caused a program crash when the options dialog was being opened. With this fix, 1.1.4 is hopefully extremely stable.

For a complete list of fixed bugs and new features since previous versions, take a look at:

http://home.sol.no/~leilarse/lcmd/history.html

Larsen Commander is a powerful GUI File Manager and Command Processor that has a look and feel like the classic Norton Commander. The most notable difference is that the Larsen Commander is pure GUI. Still it has a built in command line and a scrollable console monitor.

Larsen Commander combines the very best of two very different worlds;

- the command line and the file management panels. Both available at the same time, and even in parallel while commands are running in the background!

Best regards
Leif-Erik Larsen

Version 1.70 of the AT&T Global Network Dialer for OS/2 is now generally available for download. It can be downloaded by clicking Services->Update/Re-Install Software in your Dialer, or manually downloaded from the AT&T Business Internet Services web site from either of the following:

ftp://ftp.attglobal.net/pub/client/os2/install.exe

http://www.attbusiness.net/softctr/software.html

This version is a re-branding of the IBM Dialer to AT&T, and includes some enhancements and fixes.

AT&T Dialer for OS/2 - Version 1.70.0 - Mar 31, 2000

System Requirements:
- For OS/2 Warp 3, OS/2 FixPak 42 should be installed.
- For OS/2 Warp 4, OS/2 FixPak 11 should be installed.

Enhancements and Modifications:
- Re-branded the Dialer to AT&T.
- Changed copyright and legal agreement to AT&T.
- Added a 'setup wizard' for initial setup of required fields. The setup is also accessible in the 'Network' menu of the the main Dialer window.
- Redesigned and enhanced the 'Select a phone number to call' window to:
- Display a phone number selection list based on the values chosen in the 'Current Location' window.
- Allows the 'Number to dial' field to be edited and the modified number can be saved to a custom phone number file.
- Removed the 'Add to custom phone list' button. When the 'Number to dial' is modified, and 'OK' button clicked, a pop-up message asks if you want to save the custom number.
- Added a 'Remove' button that is enabled when a Custom phone number is selected. You can remove the entry from the Custom phone number file.
- Added a 'Current Location' button to display the 'Current Location' window.
- Added a 'Show ISDN numbers' checkbox to show only ISDN number for the selected country or region.
- For the 'Number of retries' spinbutton, added the selection choice of '0'.
- The 'State' entry field has been renamed to 'Region'.
- Fixed the 'Country' and 'Region' entry fields to no longer be editable.
- The default Protocol was changed to PPP.
- Improved performance in loading the country and phone lists.
- On the 'Phone' page of the 'Settings Notebook':
- If only one location profile is defined, grayed out the dropdown listbox.
- Added a 'Remove Secondary' button to delete the selected backup phone number.
- Removed the 'Do not apply Location data to access number' checkbox.
- Fixed the problem where if a city contained a hyphen, the city was displayed without the hyphen, and the hyphen appeared on the end of the phone number.

- On the 'Current Location' window:
- If only one location profile is defined, grayed out the dropdown listbox.
- Added a checkbox and entry field to store a calling card number. Data in this field will be added to the phone number in the selection list on the 'Select a phone number to call' window.
- If the 'call waiting' checkbox is checked, the 'local' and 'long distance' prefix entry fields are no longer blanked out.
- If the country selected is the United States and the area code field is blank, a warning message box is now display to enter the area code.

- Added a new command line parameter to choose the identity profile. The new parameter,-f=######, will override the selected identity profile in the 'Setting Notebook'.
- For Internet users who check "Update Netscape Options" on the 'Behavior' page of the 'Settings Notebook, the Dialer will now also update the 'Email Address' and the 'Home Page' fields. This update feature now also supports Netscape for OS/2 Versions 4.04 and 4.61.
- Added function to verify the phone number to be dialed still exists in the phone list. If it doesn't, the user cannot dial that number until a number from the phone list is selected.
- Fixed problem where you can't authenticate or access the Internet with a socksified TCP/IP stack.
- Fixed the Modem Autodetection function to check for a long distance prefix on the 'Current Location' window for the 1-800 test phone number.
- Removed the limit of 3 failed password tries and the dialer hangs up. The dialer will now keep retrying until the entered password is accepted or an error message is received from the gateway.
- On 'Identity' page of the 'Settings Notebook', if only one profile is defined, the dropdown listbox and the 'Remove' button are grayed out.
- Fixed problem where in some versions of TCP/IP, the Dialer's help file was installed in a non-pathed MPTN\HELP subdirectory, rendering it unaccessible.
- Fixed problem where the Dialer would keep retrying to dial if 'busy' instead of hanging up after the selected number of retries.
- Fixed problem of not properly handling the modem 'NO CARRIER' response.
- On 'Login' window, changed the 'Location access number' field from editable to read only.
- On the 'Customer Assistance' window, fixed the country entry field to be read only. Also added country and phone lists dates.
- On the dropdown list for the 'Help' menu on the main Dialer window, the 'Product Information' selection has been renamed to 'About this Dialer...'. And when you click on this selection, a popup dialog box is now display instead of Help text. The product information has been removed from the Help text.
- On the 'Identity' page of the 'Settings Notebook', fixed the problem where more than 10 profiles could be created which affected the tenth profile.
- If a user changes the account ID or the UserID for an Identity profile, the password is now deleted on the 'Login' window.
- Removed the license agreement section from the Help text.
- Removed displaying DosWaitChild and PoundSlipOrPPP messages in main Dialer window.
- Occasionally, users would see the message 'The AgentConfigServer returned an Error TCA2019E' displayed. A description of the error will now also be displayed.
- On the 'Tracing' page of the 'Settings Notebook', the 'Enable complete diagnostics' function required a file, dialdiag.cmd, to be installed. This file was missing from the build and is now included.
- Fixed problem where if you click on 'Services->Update/Reinstall Software', then click on 'Download Software', then click on 'Cancel' on the 'Download latest software' window which returns you to the 'Update/Reinstall Software' window, the 'Help' button does not work.
- Updated the uninstall program, uninst.cmd, to remove additional files.

Today, IBM finally made an official announcement that it will continue to support OS/2. However, it is not too encouraging to end users. It basically says they will make new offerings available through subscriptions, and that a "new version" will be coming November 30th but it will be the current client plus FixPaks or WSeB plus FixPaks.

WiseTalker(tm)/Developer's CD

Consultants, VARs, developers! You've always heard that CTI (Computer Telephony Integration) is an exciting, high margin, vertical market. Each job is a custom application with significant services dollars. And here the need is for a reliable, responsive, multi-tasking system. Not using Windows is not an issue because these are no "desktop" users. The operating system is simply the platform for the CTI Application. In other words, here is an area where OS/2 is an advantage. In fact, here is an area where OS/2 shines.

You have OS/2 skills! You like money! How can you benefit from this market?

Come to WarpTech and attend the presentation "Developing CTI Applications in OS/2" by Kim Cheung, Marketing Director of the TouchVoice Corporation . http://www.touchvoicecorp.com At the end of the presentation, you will walk away with the skill needed to develop CTI applications, project ideas, and most importantly, a copy of the newly created "WiseTalker/ApGen - Developer's Edition CD" - at no additional cost to WarpTech attendees.

With "WiseTalker/ApGen - Developer's Edition", no former telephony knowledge or skill is needed. You don't even need to invest in CTI hardware. The package works with a hardware simulator. But the application you develop will run in a supported CTI system without modification.

TouchVoice has deployed telephony projects worldwide with system sizes ranging from a few ports to several hundred T1/E1 lines. For the first time in the history of OS/2, telephony technology of such grand scale is within reach to the average OS/2 consultants, VARs, and developers.

So, hurry, make your reservation to attend the WarpTech Conference . http://www.warptech.org/WTRegistration.html Generally an investment of thousands of dollars is required to evaluate CTI. Now, you can get started when you attend WarpTech.
>

Disclaimer: Conference related fee not included in the price of the "WiseTalker/ApGen - Developer's Edition". Void where prohibited by law. Please contact Serenity Systems at Info@Serenity-Systems.com for details.

Hi, OS/2 friends! :-)

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, but the international English version of Papyrus for OS/2 (and other platforms) is NOT available via Mensys but only via R.O.M. logicware, at the moment.

http://www.rom-logicware.com

We only gave dealer rights to Mensys for a special Netherlands version in English (till there is a Dutch version). So Mensys is NOT allowed to take orders for the international English version.

We don't like to overdrive things, and the Mensys offer is against this philosophy, beneath the situation that we can allow Mensys only to sell inside of the Netherlands, because of already existing contacts to companies in other countries (beneath other reasons).

Of course we expect Mensys to have a friendly feeling about us and Papyrus, as we only feel in a respectful and friendly way about Mensys, as well as we had a friendly first email contact with them, so we won't blame Mensys, but their askings for dealer versions and selling rights clearly only have been for the Netherlands, so we are sorry but we have to have things clear.

So first you have to wait till somewhere around the weekend (if things work fine), and second you have to place your order directly via R.O.M. logicware:

http://www.rom-logicware.com

Selling via distributors on the Internet will only be possible when we can deliver 1.) an available final release version and 2.) together with our promise of our further development warranty for OS/2 (of course we have to make contracts with our distributors for that also that every distributor clearly hold this warranty for you, too - and we are not that far with Mensys (but we will be, I hope)).

Greetings

Ulli Ramps, pres. R.O.M. logicware, Berlin
