Update: Universal Anti-Virus Rescue Kit for OS/2 (!) etc.

The following is the reply I got back when I observed that there was no link to D/L a copy to run on OS/2:

"There is no direct OS/2 application the Vexira Antivirus Rescue Disk once created can virus scan OS/2 partitions thus virus scan a OS/2 computer if the drive are accessible.

Central Command Releases Universal Anti-Virus Rescue Kit Central Command has launched its Vexira Antivirus Rescue Disk System, which it claims is the industry's first universal anti-virus rescue technology for Windows, Linux, UNIX, DOS and OS/2 systems.

Multi-platform CD-ROMs and disks with anti-virus software for different platforms are nothing new - the first 3.5 inch floppies supporting Windows PCs and Apple Macs first appearing in the late 1980s - but Central Command claims its product is the first to span all five operating system platforms. The system, the Ohio-based company says, will scan and remove more than 64,000 viruses, trojans and other malware from the relevant platforms using a single CD-ROM or a four-floppy disk set.

Specifically, Central Command says the package will work with the following file systems: Microsoft FAT 16, FAT 32, VFAT, NTFS, Linux ext2, ReiserFS and UMSDOS, IBM OS/2 HPFS, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris and UNIX UFS, CD-ROM ISO9660, Minix, FreeVxFS, Veritas VxFS, System V, Xenix, V7 and UDF.

Steve Sundermeier, the company's product manager, told Infosecurity News that the rescue kit was available free of charge from the company's web site and users are encouraged to visit the web site to download a trial of a fully-functional anti-virus application for their machines.

Maul Publisher 2.05 released

Peter Koller has released version 2.05 of his native OS/2 desktop publishing program Maul Publisher. Maul is known for its flexibility, feature richness, small memory consumption and fast operation.

Changes in version 2.05:

fixed page copy and paste

- fixed installer and main application, it wouldn't recognise single character paths!

- added a faster boundary determination mode for slower PCs

Since I could no longer access the FTP server at the OS/2 Supersite, this move has become necessary. The site will soon be updated, and I hope to give it a complete new design in the near future.

Bookshelf will scan your drive(s) and find online books and help files (INF, HLP, PDF and PS files). Information about books can be saved in separate DAT files. You can sort books by type, title, file name, add new book to the list or remove book.

Chris Wohlgemuth has released the WPS-Wizard 0.20

WPS-Wizard is an addon for the WPS which gives you freely configurable context menus for all filesystem objects. You may have different extended menus for different classes. For example iconfiles may have other menu extension than audiofiles.

A REXX interface gives access to the WPS from user scripts.

Dr. Dialog Control 0.1.1

This is a DLL for use with DrDialog which provides a progress bar and flyover help which is missing in the base package. You may freely set colors, font and label. The delay of the fly over help and the time to show it are settable.

CW MM Classes 0.21

Chris Wohlgemuth has released the Chris Wohlgemuth Multimedia Classes 0.21

These classes are for extending the MM subsystem of OS/2. They integrate the MMIO procedures for MP3 and OGG files written by Russel O'Connor http://www.math.berkeley.edu/~roconnor/ seamlessly into the WPS. A new media folder plays any audio class known to OS/2.

This package contains updated versions of the CWAudio classes (now at 0.2.1) so you need only this distribution.

Opera 5.2 beta 2 for OS/2 and ECS - build 28 is available for download

A new release of the Opera for OS/2 Beta is available for download from

The main Opera OS/2 page still lists the available version as "5.12 Beta 2", but the Download page lists it as "5.12 Beta 3"

The Readme.txt lists it as Opera 5.2 beta 2 for OS/2 and ECS - build 28. Also in the Readme is a list of the following new features:

- Printing
- Java 1.3
- OS/2 look&feel

And it states that this release is missing:
- Opera Mail.

This is a self-executing WarpIn archive. Odin is not required to install this as a version is included, but WarpIn 0.9.16 (Available from http://warpin.netlabs.org must be installed prior to running the self-installing file.

According to the Readme.txt you still can't register it yet, but that is worked on for the "near future".
