PMFAX fix available for FP13
Please see URL
http://ps.software.ibm.com/pbin-usa-ps/getobj.pl?/pdocs-usa/fixnews.html#fp13
for details. Also posted a work-around for creating Utility diskettes that should
work, or at least it did for me, YMMV. Still working on the code, but once fixed,
the workaround will not be needed. Please note, the need to edit the CONFIG.SYS
to be able to boot the diskettes could be deep rooted within the code and may delay
the fix until FP 14. I will remove the suggested work around if too many people
have problems with the resultant diskettes, I'm not sure it will work for everyone.
Worth a try for those that are willing and knowledgeable.

There were already some discussions about the interview with John Soyring in
the German c't Magazine. Now the original *German* article is online. You can read
it at:
http://www.heise.de/ct/00/10/058/
Have you seen IBM Personal Translator for Windows? Yes, fine. Do you like to
see the OS/2 Version? Yes, better. Truth behind this story is that, development
of this "English-German" bi-directional translation tool is completely
done on OS/2. Why do I know this? Because, I've seen it and even more, I have it.
Only problem, you need IBM Prolog Runtime for OS/2 to run it. And I dont have it.
So, if anybody has it, this might be a product soon.

What is SciTech Display Doctor for OS/2?
SciTech Display Doctor for OS/2 brings SciTech's proven DOS and Windows device
support technologies to the OS/2 Operating System. Although one of the core features
of our DOS and Windows products is the support for the VESA VBE/Core standard, the
OS/2 version has nothing at all to do with VESA services. Rather SciTech Display
Doctor for OS/2 incorporates the new SciTech Nucleus, Graphics Architecture device
driver technology to bring SciTech's device support to the OS/2 platform.
SciTech Nucleus is a binary portable, OS neutral, device driver architecture.
As binary portable drivers, SciTech can fully develop and test the core device drivers
in the DOS and Windows environments, while being able to target any Intel x86 based
OS as the runtime environment (such as OS/2). This essentially allows the OS/2 product
to utilise the same SciTech binary device drivers as the DOS and Windows versions
of the product, improving the quality and performance of the drivers for all supported
operating systems.
Runtime Requirements
SciTech Display Doctor for OS/2 requires a version of OS/2 Warp 3 or OS/2 Warp
4 in order to run. More imporantly, it requires at least Warp 3 with fixpack 35,
or Warp 4 with fixpack 5 installed. If you have a version with earlier fixpacks
installed, SciTech Display Doctor will refuse to install.
List of all certified chipsets:
This is a complete list of the various graphics chipsets that have been certified
to work correctly with this version of SciTech Display Doctor. Please note that
this list refers to the actual chips being used, not a board-level implementation.
Thus you will not see any products from Hercules or STB on the list, but their products
are supported because they use S3, Cirrus, Tseng, etc. chips. Also, any card with
less than 512KB of memory cannot be supported by SciTech Display Doctor.
Note: Please check the separate list of supported laptop chipsets for more information
if you are using this product on a laptop. All laptop chipsets are still listed
here as many laptop chipset can also be used in regular PCI/AGP boards.

Don't miss Warp City Columnist Karen L. Mansbridge-Wood's latest article entitled
"OS/2 Is Rescued By The Internet". Karen translates important points of
the interview from German to English and tells us what John Soyring is really saying
about such topics like the concept of a 'thin client', whether or not IBM themselves
use OS/2, does IBM consider OS/2 important and much more.

The following appeared in comp.os.os2.bugs May 3:
IBM is pre-announcing FP 14 for Warp 4. FP 14 will be FP 13 with all the updates
that are now individual downloads as well as the expected announced fixes that will
still be made available as individual fixes.
Additional fixes above those mentioned at URL:
http://ps.software.ibm.com/pbin-usa-ps/getobj.pl?/pdocs-usa/fixnews.html
will be also included if available when FP 14 is produced. Although there is
no strict date for the release of FP 14, it is expected to be available sometime
in June if not earlier. Gating factors are the availability of fixes for FP 13 regressions
(some may not get fixed immediately and have to wait for later FP's) as well as
IBM resource availability.
It has also been determined that the fix for 486 and 386 machines that get a
TRAP 6 on reboot after applying FP 13 was NOT included in the re-released FP. Users
of such machines either must get that fix and apply it in order to boot, or should
wait for FP 14.
For more information of the status of FP 13's fixes and FP 14, please see the
above URL.
Tired of those yellow sticky notes that won't stick on your monitor? Here come
the sticky notes that remain where you put them: On your OS/2 desktop. WarpNote
gives you easy access to little yellow windows where you can note down everything
you want. The program is simple and easy to use and consumes as little memory as
possible. Each and any feature can be configured and adjusted to the user's needs.
Extensive scripting capabilities give you unlimited possibilities (a birthday-reminder
is included as an example script). A Blowfish encryption interface ensures that
private data is stored in a secure way.
WarpNote is an ideal desktop companion, a fire-and-forget solution to keep all
sorts of information - e.g. your shopping list or even confidential information
like banking data, passwords or PIN numbers.

Couple of days ago, I posted an invitation for the OS/2 community members to
join me at:
http://www.egroups.com/group/ecomstation
regarding our effort to create a new Managed Client for eBusiness using components
of WSeB.
An interesting issue came up as to whether it will help us if we were to create
a new non-remote boot client - aka "traditional" client - as well.
My concern is: How many people still care? How many copies will I be able to
sell? Are there enterprise customers that are willing to buy it from us IF this
product has the blessing and support of IBM?
Join us. Let me know. I can't hear you if you don't speak up. Help spread the
question around. Do you work for an enterprise company? How would your IT manager
feel about it? Would they want to see an alternative to the W2K fat lady?
IBM has announced a new line of ThinkPads to replace the 600 series. High end

On my home page there is a new version of SecureDesktop available for download.
This is a test-version and no password is needed - please do not put this package
on other OS/2-pages!
SecureDesktop is a security system for OS/2. This package includes the following
modules:
- serial multi-user desktop: every user has his own desktop with his own objects
- logon/logoff/lock-module
If this test is successful the other modules are ready for testing:
- file-access-control
- single-sign-on: one userid/password in the whole network
- administration of several multi-user-suitable applications: StarOffice 3.x, 4.x,
5.x, MySQL, Peer2Peer, and so on.

KRFTech Ltd. Changes Company Name to Jungo Ltd:
KRFTech Ltd. has changed the name of the company to Jungo Ltd. "Jungo"
is a Latin term for joining, connecting, or bringing together. The new name reflects
the simple way in which Jungo's products enable developers and system integrators
to overcome bottlenecks in connecting software to hardware. This simplicity is the
essence of Jungo's product lines.
The Jungo company name change does not effect the company's product line names
- "WinDriver", "KernelDriver" and "Go Hot Swap", and
does not change the commitment that Jungo has to its broad customer base.
"The company name change is a welcome change for us," said Ofer Vilenski,
president of Jungo Ltd., "It reflects our vision of providing simple solutions
to difficult problems".
Jungo Ltd. Announces New Products:
----------------------------------
1. Hot Swap Operating System Extension.
2. Remote Access WinDriver.
3. USB driver development kits for NT, CE and Linux.
1. Hot Swap Operating System Extension
=======================================
Up until today, implementing "Hot Swap" required the use of proprietary
operating systems. Jungo's "Go Hot Swap" tools enable hardware vendors
and system integrators to create "hot swappable" drivers from scratch,
or add Hot Swap capabilities to existing PCI drivers. For more details, check out
our CompactPCI page at http://www.jungo.com/cpci.html,
or contact Mr. Amir Inbar amir@jungo.com
2. Remote Access WinDriver
===========================
Jungo has released the beta version of a revolutionary product, which enables
remote access to ISA/ISA PnP/PCI/cPCI/USB/PCMCIA based hardware, through any network
connection. This new technology can be used in conjunction with Jungo's successful
driver tools, enabling developers to develop and debug drivers for remote hardware,
or as a stand-alone product. The new technology enables ample range of implementations
and uses, such as embedded system development, remote driver development, remote
debugging, hardware inventory control, help desk services, theft prevention, e-support

3. USB driver development kits for NT, CE and Linux
====================================================
Following the success of Jungo's USB driver development toolkit for Windows 98
and Windows 2000, Jungo has now released WinDriver USB for Windows CE and announced
the upcoming launch of WinDriver USB for Windows NT, NT Embedded and Linux. WinDriver
dramatically shortens the development cycle of device drivers for USB to only several
hours. Jungo's "WinDriver USB for Windows NT" enables USB capabilities
on Windows NT and NT Embedded, which were previously unavailable. By adding the
support for USB on Windows NT, NTE, CE and Linux (to WinDriver's existing Windows
9x and 2000), Jungo powerful "WinDriver" product line will now completely
support all major operating systems. The same USB driver code generated for any
of the operating systems will run as-is on all of these operating systems. For more
information regarding WinDriver USB, please contact Mr. Eyal Yoskovitz eyal@jungo.com
I will be happy to answer any question you may have regarding our driver development
tools.

From the desk of Craig Greenwood, WarpTech Captain
The WarpTech Travel Page and The Wigwam Resort's web site will both give you
some good information on how to get to WarpTech and what you (and your family, if
they're coming too) can take advantage of while you're there.
The Wigwam is one of the top resorts in the country. It began as the Goodyear
Company's private lodge and it's much more than just a convention facility. There
are exquisite dining facilities (the Arizona Kitchen, the Terrace Dining Room, and
the Grill On The Greens Rotisserie), two swimming pools (one with a water slide),
nine tennis courts, bicycle trails, three 18-hole championship golf courses (with
6 a.m. tee times), and plenty of other recreation facilities within its 463 acres.

Add an extra day or two onto your trip and turn WarpTech into a personal holiday.
Relax after each day of sessions in one of the resort pools and enjoy some refreshments
from the Pool Cabana. Bring your tennis racket, your swimwear, your clubs and your
bicycle!
Our own WarpTech Travel page gives you a complete airline summary including discount
programs and "specials", plus links for trains (Amtrak) and buses (Greyhound).

And we've touched up the WarpTech Sessions page a bit, so if you haven't looked
in a while you'll see a few new things at
http://www.warptech.org/WTSessions.html
Also, don't forget that Monday, May 1 is the last day of our Warp Server for
e-Business contest. See
http://www.warptech.org/WTRegistration.html
The big three days of OS/2 are Friday to Sunday, May 26-28, and we'll see you
there -- at WarpTech 2000!
