The version 4.1 of Nice OS/2 Enhancer was released yesterday. There are no new
features in it, some bugs were revised, and user interface was slightly improved.
You can download version 4.1 (840 KB) or update for 4.0 (170 KB) from Hobbes:

Program URL with more information:
The Nice OS/2 Enhancer adds new features to the OS/2 operating system such as
the ability to:
move an image into all windows by means of mouse or keys,
change frames for all windows,
extend your workplace by new "Rooms" around the Desktop,
define keys to perform various actions,
attach any network drive or FTP folder from file dialogs,
manage the priority for some applications,
remove items from the Window list,
arrange text, WPS and Java windows by center of the screen,
hold "Num Lock" always "ON" or "OFF",
and more.
This Enhancer is very stable and fully compatible with other software. I use
it day by day and think that this is a great "run-time" Fix for OS/2 Warp!
Thought I'd pass on that Version 3.0 of FileStar/2 is in ongoing private beta
testing. FileStar/2 is a PM File Manager for OS/2 that has been continuously developed/supported
since about 1994. I'm not sure when Jim Read(developer of both FileStar/2 and Unimaint)
plans to release the GA version, but there may be a public beta in July. There is
a list of features in the new release at http://www.filestar.com
but for me the most notable improvement is overall speed.
Some of the new features I have found most useful in the beta include:
Support for FTP.IFS. You can Attach/Detach from FTP sites via the FS/2 menu and
assign a drive letter. This allows you to use FS/2 commands such a ZipView, Copy,
View on remote sites. ZipView can show/extract remote zip file contents.
A new internal editor called FlexEdit, which has both a View and Edit mode as
well as a Hex mode. For such a small, fast editor, it is very customizable and full
of features.
A new improved file find function with Grep or string search by selected files,
directory or drive(s). Text search any type file.
Network support for connecting/disconnecting LAN shares.
Directory Marks, which allows you to easily bookmark most frequently used directories
and access them by chording the mouse in the directory selection window. Also the
past 20 accessed directories can be listed by chording in the file list areas. Both
these features make getting around bigger drives to where you need to be a lot easier.
A file Obliteration function to make deleted file(s)/directories unretrievable
by performing overwrites to meet DOD specifications.
The Copy function has been enhanced to provide the capability to split/rejoin
large files.
And yes FileSatr/2's ZipView can finally view self-executing ZIP files.
Other changes are listed at http://www.filestar.com/pages/fsv3beta/V3_Index.html
for anyone interested.
I have been using FileStar/2 for almost as long as I've been using OS/2, so I'm
definitely looking forward to this update. Nice to see a long time OS/2 product
still being supported and expanded.
Digitize2 has been placed in the Hobbes incoming directory.
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/digitize2_01.zip
It will later move to:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/dev/rexx/digitize2_01.zip
With Digitize2 the user can convert a line or other feature in a raster image
to a string of x,y points. The points may optionally stored in an ASCII file. Digitize2
was designed to help convert old graphs, figures, charts and other illustrations
into a tabular digital format.
Digitize2 addresses three special problems inherent in this type of work. First,
it is rather easy to scan the printed material, but getting it aligned accurately
is a nuisance. Second, many scanners and certainly most zerographic reproductions
are not uniformly scaled. Therefore, Digitize2 by default can correct for rotated
images and it does a linear correction for scale distortions. Finally, Digitize2
allows the user to also edit the image. This will be done automatically during digitizing
or optionally using the various paint tools available. This can greatly simplify
keeping track of progress when working on complex imagery.
Hi All,
Just a short note to let you know that The WarpCast News Service http://www.warpcast.com
will be down for as short a time as possible.
Over the years, we've saved Warpcast messages as static HTML files and are now
moving them to a new machine and will place these in an Oracle database on the new
Supersite server. It's a lot of work, and I've got someone on staff coding on it
overtime and we hope to have it back up asap. Did I hear someone say "Hey,
a real search engine?" ;--)
Please continue to send your messages to us at:
They will not be lost!
And from the "Where have you been pot":
growth. As an example, we've physically moved to a 3600 sq ft. office building
with retail space when we're ready in 3Q 00 , and have added 3 full point to point
diverse route T1's. Our customer service staff has doubled, and we now take order
by phone until 11:00 PM EST. Believe me, it has been _SO_ hard to see the background
work take literally months without any outward signs of changes but we have not
been stagnant I assure you! Stay tuned, we're just getting geared up!
From all of us at BMT! (now 12 fine folks - remember when it was just me and
Jenni?!?)
Thomas
I, and the entire staff of BMT thank you for your patience on the Warpcast move.
I recently met an IBM ex-employee and decided to write an article based on the
information that I got during the conversation. I think this article will clear
up IBM's attitude to OS/2 and its users not only in Russia.

In a stunning reversal of fortune VOICE has the won the Sundial Systems Warped
Jeopardy 2000 User's Group editon crown at Warptech 2000 this past weekend. Congratulations
to Wayne Swanson, VOICE Vice-President in his come from behind victory over POSSI's
own Bill Schindler, and SCOUG's Steve Schiffman. Down to -400 points at one point
because Wayne talked longer then the allowed time, he managed to win it on the final
round.
BTW, for those of us who were unable to attend Warptech, there will be a Warptech
Wrapup held at the Speakup with Sundial Systems on Monday, June 5th at 8PM EST(00:00GMT)
on the WEBBnet IRC network. The place is #voice. If you've never been on IRC this
will be something worth trying it out for. Sundial Speakups are always interesting.
More on VOICE meetings and IRC can be found at http://www.os2voice.org/meetinginfo.html
After a hard time searching all over the world, finally we found a pulisher in
the States which is going to pulish and release an English translation of the famous
German TeamOS/2 Book.
Since we have to translate about 800 pages and redo the screenshots, this will
take some time, but nevertheless we hope to have the first ones available at WarpStock
in Philadelphia at the beginning of September.
Since we are not sure about first release, it would be very helpful to get your
feedback on numbers. If you want to show interest, please sent me an email at:

I want to apologize, in moving files from work to my home, I included an old
version of the files in my Zeryx Object Add-on package for Vispro Rexx package.
The files I uploaded recently did not work in Vispro Rexx.
I corrected the package last night after feedback from one user. The updated
package can be found on the web site as of last night. Go to:
and go to the download page.
The error was SYS3175 memory violation (wrong call to VpRexx winproc). This has
now been solved and confirmed solved by the user with this fix. All other object
(Vispro C and C++ were not affected).

Warpstock Europe 2000 will take place in the training center of Fiducia in Karlsruhe,
Germany. Fiducia is a company providing computer center services for saving banks
in Germany, using OS/2 on their own. Its training centre provides an excellent and
professional environment for fairs and seminars such as Warpstock Europe. We greatly
appreciate the sponsorship of Fiducia for Warpstock Europe 2000.
A big THANK YOU goes to IBM, as they support Warpstock Europa 2000 as a major

that, we would like to welcome you on this event. Remember: nothing else will protect

I asked the os2archive webmaster what is happening to the web site, that haven't
been updated in a long while, and here it is what he answer to me.
-------------------------
Hi Martin,
No it is not abandoned... we are in the midst of reconstructing the site...we have
a number of projects that we are currently working on...unfortunately ... os2 is
not the top priority. We should have the site updated within a few more weeks.
Thanks SoftwareArchives.com

An updated release of BOBSAPPS is on Hobbes. BOBSAPPS is a collection of references
to OS/2 applications. It is an easy way to browse the enormous range of applications
available for OS/2. It is in a INF file so it is easy to search for a particular
subject. The URLs noted in the reference are dynamic links which connect to an external
set of scripts, which are supplied with the reference. The scripts curently enable
a user to click on the URL and
1. Start Netscape at that URL
2. Add the URL to their Web Sites folder in Connections.
I have uploaded BOBSAPPS.ZIP to Hobbes. It is at:

I don't know, if I missed that one on WarpCast, but as of 24 of May an OS/2 article
on Linux Planet is mentioned on the discussion forum at www.os2.org (including a
discussion about the article which is partly in english). The article itself can
be found at:
http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/print/1864/
Quoting a comment from os2.org, the author has some good knowledge of the OS/2
past, but seems to have lost contact to the OS/2 scene some time ago.
The OS/2 Supersite http://www.os2ss.com/,
the leading Web site for OS/2 tips, tricks, rumors, and information, is growing
to meet your needs!
Starting Monday and continuing through the week, the Supersite will be moving
to a new server hosted at BMT Micro. This new server features a lightning-fast Pentium
III processor, a fault-tolerant RAID array, and a high-speed Internet connection
through three diversely-routed T-1s. Simply put, this means the Supersite will be
faster and more reliable than ever before!
During the next week, you may experience problems with the Supersite, including
missing files and broken links. We appreciate your support and hope you'll bear
with us through this transitional period.
Thank you,
