Renewing Software Choice
My Software Choice subscription was expiring this month and my former
dealer, Indelible Blue, was out of business.
After several calls to IBM and some false referrals, I got the number of
IBM Direct. They were friendly and helpful ... and they knew about OS/2
and Software Choice. My subscription has been renewed.
If anyone else has this problem, call IBM Direct at (800) 426-2255.
Having the part number will speed your order. You can get that at the
Software Choice web site by clicking on the Subscribe link: http://service.boulder.ibm.com/asd-bin/doc/en_us/subscrib.htm
I hope this helps some other "lone wolf" OS/2 users!

"What is CDDB?
The original CDDB is a database to look up CD information using the
internet. This is done by a client which calulates a (nearly) unique disc
ID and then queries the database. As a result, the client displays the

Jdictionary 1.2
Note: And naturally on OS/2 with a java runtime 1.3 or higher . K.S.
JDictionary is plugin based, and has an easy to use plugin managment
system, that is able to download and install the desired plugins
automagically from the web. Installing or upgrading one or more plugins
(even simultaneously) is just one click!
There are more and more plugins available for jDictionary. It's not
necessary for a plugin to be a dictionary related stuff. For example,
currently there is a speech synthesizer plugin under development which
will be invoked by other plugins to pronounce the desired words.
JDictionary is licensed under the LGPL license, so you can download and
use this program for free, and download its source code too.

A new release (1.9) of Vice/2
A new release (1.9) of Vice/2 - the OS/2 port of VICE - the versatile
commodore emulator - is available.
Vice/2 uses DIVE and DART at the moment.
This is mainly the implementation of 'Real PAL emulation' (Please checkout
the blurry-mode with your favourite demo - it is fantastic!) For this I
had to change the screen access from palette mode to real color modes. I
can't gurantee that this works on other machines than my. If it doesn't
work for you please tell me about the problem so that I can fix it for the
next release!
Please send bugreports and suggestions to mailto:tbretz@gsi.de
You can find the binaries at: http://www.d4m.de/vice2/
Inet.Mail(TM) Perseus Version 2.0 Now In General Release
Inet.Mail(TM) Perseus for OS/2 is a full featured SMTP/POP3 server for the
OS/2 environment. It features a Java Manager interface for all functions
and has been designed from the ground up to take advantage of OS/2's
multi-tasking and multi-threading. Inet.Mail Perseus completely replaces
traditional sendmail and takes the mystery and agony from configuring
internet mail.
Inet.Mail Perseus has the ability to support multiple mail domains with a
single server. Each mail domain contains its own username space so that
user@domain1.com is different than user@domain2.com. This solution is idea
for Internet Service Providers wishing to support multiple customer
domains on a single machine or for companies which need to show two or
more corporate identities.
Inet.Mail Perseus also has the ability to host multiple virtual domains on
a single ip address. In our teminology, a mail domain is a server which
has a unique ip address assigned to it. A virtual mail domain is a server
which uses the same ip address as the mail domain it is associated with.
So you can now create a mail domain, and then associate as many virtual
domains with it as you like. This enables you to support multiple domains
on a single server machine without having to assign a unique ip address
for each domain.
Inet.Mail Perseus also has the ability to selectively queue mail for
domains to pick up on demand using the SMTP extension command ETRN. This
is particularly effective for customers who wish to run their own mail
server but only connect via a dial-up line. The dial-up customers can
choose when their mail is downloaded to their server.
S2 World is running again.
Both the large and small poll has been updated to ask what Your preferred
browser under OS2 and if You support the SETI-project.
The large poll can as usually be found at http://www.os2world.com/poll and the small poll is to be found at the main
index page.
Wolfram Schmidt has released DirDiff 2.0
DirDiff 2.0 is a Directory compare program for OS/2 and eCS and compares
all files in two sub-directorys or whole directory trees. It can be used
for many file management activities and is a must have tool for software
developers.
This new version 2.x replaces the old DirDiff version 1.0 and eliminates
limitations the old version had because of the used list control. We
developed a fully new List-Control for displaying the search results which
is able to display any number of rows. In addition we improved the memory
management so that the version 2.0 uses only 1/10th of the memory the old
version used. Also a main feature of the new version is, that the search
result can be viewed in all kinds of sort orders.
DirDiff 2.0 is shareware. The registration fee is Euro 22 (including tax),
for delivery and payment within Germany. For delivery and payment outside
of Germany the registration fee is Euro 28.00.
