IBM ThinkPad T42 (Model 2373-xxx) Systems

IBM ThinkPad T42 systems support the Intel Centrino mobile technology,
including the Pentium M Processor, Intel 855PM chipset, Intel ICH4-M
chipset and Enhanced SpeedStep. Some ThinkPad T42 systems do not contain
wireless LAN adapters, and, therefore, do not support the entire scope of
Centrino mobile technology.

In addition, ThinkPad T42 systems support USB 2.0, including USB-attached
CD-RW drives, and IDE-attached CD-RW, DVD-RW and DVD+RW drives using the
UDF file system.

The following IBM OS/2 operating system versions support these ThinkPad
T42 features, when the appropriate OS/2 FixPaks and device-driver support
are applied.

Event: Warpstock Czech Republic 2004 !

12 May 2004 17:30:33 -0500

From: warpstockDESPAM@os2.cz

Hello OS/2 users!

We are proud to announce that the 3rd year of the Czech Warpstock
conference will take place in Pec pod Snezkou, CZ, during the last June
weekend. We will start on Friday afternoon (June 25, 2004) and finish on
Sunday afternoon (June 27, 2004).

Pec pod Snezkou is the center of Krkonose mountains, placed in the north
of the Czech Republic, just a few kilometers from Polish border. A photo
can be found at http://www.egothor.org/temp/warpstock2004.jpg . This place
is particularly interesting for those of you living in Poland or Germany,
but the others may appreciate summer mountain weather as well...

Accomodation is granted for registered users only. The registration is
free of any charge, one night with breakfast in the chalet Orlik (see
http://www.sweb.cz/chataorlik/ ) costs 350 Kc (about 12 Euro).

So far, the following presentations have been announced:
* Project Egothor - A Java search engine running on eCS 1.1
* Java Native Interface and OS/2
* eComStation 1.2
* Virtual PC for OS/2

Other presentations will be (hopefully) added soon. Would you like to
present an interesting piece of OS/2 software, explain a programming
technique, or even present your own OS/2 application? Don't hesitate, any
activity will be highly appreciated with regular supply of beer during the
conference. Or just come to see us!

From this year on, we use DocBook for conference papers. All you have to
do is to write a valid XML DocBook file and send it to the organizers. All
subsequent work (typesetting, conversion to PDF and PostScript) will be
done by organizers. Instuctions in Czech can be found at
http://home.zcu.cz/~jkacer/cs/os2/czech_warpstock_2004.html .

For more information, see http://www.os2.cz/warpstock/ .
For registration, go to http://www.os2.cz/index.php?lang=cs&v=wsreg . The
check box indicates that the accomodation should be arranged for you by
the organizers. Specify the number of persons (if greater than 1) in the
text area below.

We hope to see you there!

Net: Help us tell people about WARPSTOCK 2004

12 May 2004 14:38:28 -0500

May 12, 2004 - You probably know, by now, that the next Warpstock event --
an all-volunteer conference of OS/2 and eCS users -- is being held this
year in Denver, Colorado. Whether or not you can attend this year's event,
we'd like your help in spreading the word. One easy way for you to do so
is to put a link to the Warpstock site on your home page. Anyone who
includes a link to Warpstock will be eligible for inclusion on our
Warpstock Online Friends page -- maybe it'll bring a little business or
visibility your way.

You don't need to be a Web wizard to accomplish this. We'll give you the
little bit of HTML and one of our newly minted 2004 logos: choose one of
the three images (each in two sizes) from
< http://www.warpstock.org/event_info/2004/logo_support.html >

Once you have posted the link on your site, send an E-mail to Warpstock's
web master at He will add your Web
site to our Online Friends of Warpstock page.

And a big thanks for supporting Warpstock.

SW: Need more OS/2 developers for Mozilla

10 May 2004 14:18:40 -0500

From: Michael Kaply on Mon, 10 May 2004 13:07:54 UTC Posted on:
News://secnews.netscape.com/netscape.public.mozilla.os2

My team is no longer focused on Mozilla for OS/2.

While I continue to do some work on it as a hobby, there is basically no
OS/2 development work going on with Mozilla.

I'm hoping there are developers out there who want to help work on the

OS/2 port of Mozilla.

If there are, speak up.

OT: Additional article on IBM's Microsoft bypass

10 May 2004 12:05:45 -0500

From: "Stanley Sidlov"

http://www.itnews.com.au/storycontent.asp?ID=4&Art_ID=19527

"IBM Software is slated to outline plans to shrink and componentise key
middleware as a way to bring rich client capabilities to the tiniest
devices.

A new Workplace Client "Micro Edition" will package key middleware facets
of IBM's portfolio, said sources familiar with the company's plan. That
layer of software -- paired with server-side management and provisioning
and the tiny Cloudscape database embedded in the new Lotus Workplace 2.0
client -- was expected to bring even existing applications into a secure,
manageable environment, they said. "

[snip]

"And while IBM was expected to soft-pedal a potential antiMicrosoft
message -- since it makes a lot of money on Windows-based implementations
-- the company will talk about how customers will be able to use
IBM-supplied plug-ins to run Microsoft Office applications in a secure
Workplace environment, sources familiar with the plan said. For those who
want basic spreadsheet, word processing and presentation graphics
functionality, IBM also would offer Workplace "editors" that would do the
bulk of what users need for a fraction of the Office price."

OT: IBM to launch Microsoft bypass

"IBM to launch Microsoft bypass
By Tom Foremski in San Francisco
Published: May 9 2004 21:54 | Last Updated: May 9 2004 21:54

International Business Machines has raised the stakes in its battle with
Microsoft by developing a software technology that would allow large
corporations to bypass Microsoft operating systems and applications on PCs
or handheld computers.

This is the latest of increasingly aggressive moves by IBM, the world's
largest computer company, to grab market share as global information
technology markets strengthen following three years of downturn. It comes
as Microsoft is under pressure from corporate customers unhappy with
security issues in its software and the cost of licences.

IBM's software technology, to be announced on Monday in New York, has the
backing of leading technology companies, including Motorola, PeopleSoft,
Adobe Systems and Siebel Systems. Top executives of these companies will
announce plans for products that support the IBM software, providing large
corporations with further alternatives to Microsoft business software
applications.
