The new version implements support for user-defined status bitmaps,
enhances handling of DHCP and fixes an error caused by SciTech Snap with
WarpOverlay installed.
This program is available both as a XCenter Widget as well as a standalone
program and is the successor of the older WifiState application of Jens
Glathe (being part of some Wireless LAN driver packages) as well as the
experimental XCenter Widget of Markus Montkowski of Warpstock Europe 2002.
This program program provides the following features:
- monitoring the status of your Wireless LAN connection
- support of multipe connection profiles, which can be exported and
imported
- optionally configuring the TCP/IP interface of the Wireless LAN device
- automatic connection scan on startup
- automatic generation of WEP keys
- detection of public Wireless LANs
See the homepage and the docs included in the package for a complete
feature list.

It is time for another Update Mailing for the OS/2 and eComStation
Developers Workshop 2005. As a reminder, the Developers Workshop 2005 will
be held on July 9th and 10th in Dresden, Germany.
Developers from the Ukraine:
We are currently working on the VISA for two developers from the Ukraine.
Thanks to your contributions through sponsor units we hope to have enough
money to invite two developers from to Ukraine to the Developers Workshop.
If all goes well, both will give a presentation on their work for OS/2
applications and drivers. If you plan to contribute via sponsor units, you
can purchase them in the Mensys online shop.
Reserve your hotel rooms:
Hotel rooms in Dresden for this particular weekend can be scarce! There
are a couple of other events on this weekend so if you already know that
you are attending the Workshop, please consider reserving the rooms as
soon as possible. There should not be problems with finding four or five
star hotel rooms, but cheaper accommodation could be in short supply. A
couple of links to hotel booking websites have been added to the Workshop
homepage to assist you with your planing. If you have trouble finding a
reasonable priced room, you can also contact the Workshop team via eMail:
DevelopersWorkshop netlabs.org
New sessions:
One new session has been added to the presentation list. Vladyslav
Stelmakhovskyy will talk about supporting USB WebCams in OS/2. We are
currently talking to two more people about contributing to the Workshop.
Stay tuned for more exciting topics!
Send your posters:
Posters are a great way to inform people about your work or your project!
If you are developing an application or driver for OS/2 or eComStation or
if you are maintaining a website that is related to a development project,
please consider creating a poster for the Workshop. A poster is simply a
very large paper, for example in the A1 to A3 format, that contains an
overview about a project. While it may not be the ideal tool, OpenOffice
could be used to create posters! A poster should include the following
information:
- a short history of the project and a description
- the current state
- some links to web pages or contact information of the author
- some ideas about how other developers could participate
- anything else that you think is important or interesting
You may also update the posters for later OS/2 events like Warpstock or
Warpstock Europe! If you cannot attend the Workshop, but would like to
present your project to the community we can make this happen! Here is the
deal:
Send us an eMail and let us know that you think about preparing a poster.
Then send us your poster no later then July 4th. Please use PDF, PS, TIFF
or any other ready-to-print format! (no SXW, no PAP, no LWP!!) The
Workshop team will print the posters in Dresden and present them at the
Workshop. There is no cost for you, except the time that you need to
create the poster! Of course, we will also make the posters available via
the Workshop homepage. This guarantees that a wider audience can have a
look at the them!
Order your Workshop tickets:
Just as a reminder, the Workshop team would appreciate it if you would
register for the Workshop as early as possible. You can purchase your
tickets at the Mensys online shop.

Staples has got the Hewlett-Packard 2550L color laser printer in stock now
-- and it is available online with free delivery after all! Here's the
2550L direct link:
http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Browse/Sku.asp?PageType=1&Sku=567293
Here's the first $100 rebate:
https://www.stapleseasyrebates.com/staples/promodetail.do?CODE=05-29704
And use coupon code 88915 at checkout for another $100 off.
Don't forget the Staples.com rebate available by surfing to Staples from
here:
http://www.fatcash.com
(In that case, after you get to Staples by clicking through, search on the
SKU number 567293 instead of using the first URL, above.)
And don't forget the $125 Hewlett-Packard laser printer trade-in rebate
(if you qualify -- it may be worth buying an old laser printer for the
privilege) here:
http://www.hp.com/united-states/tradein/promo/laserjet/
Your final cost, with trade-in?
$499.98
- $100
- $100
= $299.98
+ Sales Tax (on $399.98)
- $ 12.00 FatCash 3% Rebate (on $399.98)
- $125.00 Hewlett-Packard Trade-in Rebate
= $162.98 (plus Sales Tax)
You may also qualify for that 12% "member appreciation" discount I
mentioned in my earlier Warped Bargains note if your business has an
agreement with Staples. That would reduce your price by another $48.00, it
seems.
This is a remarkable bargain for an eComStation and OS/2 Warp-friendly
color laser printer.
I have no affiliation with Staples or Hewlett-Packard.

From: Free Pascal development team on
Mon, 16 May 2005 11:28:45 +0200 (CEST)
Hello,
The Free Pascal development team is pleased to announce the availability
of version 2.0.0 of the Free Pascal Compiler. This is the new stable
version of the compiler and is the first stable release of the development
branch of the compiler started back in 2000. OSNews
(http://www.osnews.com) will be publishing an article today that will
describe the new compiler in detail.
Versions numbered 1.0.X and 1.9.Y are now considered obsolete and will no
longer be maintained.
What is Free Pascal ?
=====================
Free Pascal is a compiler for 32-bit and 64-bit CPU architectures such as
Intel 32/64 bit, AMD 32/64 bit, SPARC, PowerPC and Intel ARM. It is
language compatible to Turbo Pascal, Delphi (till version 7), and partly
Metrowerks Pascal. It supports many operating systems: Dos, Linux,
Windows, OS/2, FreeBSD, NetBSD and OpenBSD, Novell Netware, Mac OS
classic, Mac OS X and MorphOS.
It comes with a cross-platform Run-Time Library, many interfaces to
existing libraries, and a large set of non-visual classes in the Free
Component Library. Last but not least, a text-mode IDE exists on various
platforms, and FPC comes with 1800 pages of documentation.
The compiler is licensed under the GNU General Public License. The
Run-Time code is licensed under a modified version of the Library General
Public License, which allows to use it in a commercial application.
What is new when compared to version 1.0 ?
==========================================
- More supported CPUs:
AMD64, SPARC, PPC (32 bit), ARM.
- More supported platforms:
Mac OS classic, Mac OS X, MorphOS, Novell Netware.
- Improved inlining
- Improved register variables
- Improved 80x86 assembler optimizer
- Threading support.
- Rudimentary variant support.
- Interfaces support.
- WideString support.
- More Delphi compatibility units.
- Greatly improved database access.
- New compiler mode:
MACPAS for compatibility with Pascal compilers on Mac OS.

documentation
tool, included in the distribution: fpdoc
- Completely rewritten Unix support.
- Completely rewritten compiler, allowing for easier ports to new
architectures.
- IDE
- Free Vision text-mode windowing system.
- Many new packages.
- And of course, Numerous bugfixes.
The complete list of changes can be found in the whatsnew.txt file
included in the distribution.
Where can it be downloaded ?
============================
The main download site is http://www.freepascal.org/sdown.html
Here, you can select a mirror close to you. Please select a mirror, as the
main server is heavily loaded, but allow some time for the mirrors to be
up-to-date.
Installation packages are already available for
- Windows (with installer)
- Linux (Intel x86, AMD64, Sparc, PPC, ARM) : tar.gz and .rpm
- FreeBSD (Intel x86)
- OS/2
