Several people have written to me lately regarding my Request For
Discussion on the creation of a new USENET group, comp.os.os2.ecomstation.
I've received more than a couple questions as to "Why not
comp.os.ecomstation" or similar. The reasoning is simple. In my view,
eCS is more of a 'distribution' of OS/2 than a completely separate OS.
That may change in the future, but for now eCS is predominantly OS/2 and
so I feel it would be disingenuous and OT to attempt to dedicate a new
hierarchy to it. The 'USENET gods' who have entered the discussion agree.
Anyone is able to submit an RFD for a new USENET group, but I cannot
support comp.os.ecomstation.* at this time. While I certainly appreciate
the interest and always welcome in thoughtful discussion and debate, I ask
that everyone post their messages on USENET, 'news.groups' where the
official discussion is taking place.
Cheers,
Jason Stefanovich

Mr. Message for OS/2 is an instant messenger client which is capable of
communicating over AOL's Instant Messenger network using the OSCAR
protocol (used in the Win32 AIM clients, jBuddy, gAIM, Kopete, ICQ, and
a variety of other clients).
It has been updated with the following changes:
* Debug console was removed. Mr. Message now functions as a normal
PM application but you can still get the debug log by piping the
console output to a file.
* Custom sound events can be set up by the user.
* Support for server pause/resume messages (won't get kicked as
often anymore).
* Now flashes user status changes for a few seconds so you can tell
who has done what without reading the debug console.
* Reports idle time to servers when the window has been inactive and
the mouse has not been over it.
* Updated buddy list to reflect proper capitalization and spacing
of buddy names if this differs from the server-stored buddy list.
* Saves the filtration options on the buddy list window.
* Fixed bubble window off-by-one pixel row error (potential to crash
for bubble windows of certain sizes).
* Fixed handling when AOL boots us from the network. The session
will now close gracefully. (Auto-reconnect feature coming soon.)
* Fixed displaying away messages after user has set "back" status.
* Fixed displaying both profile and away message while user is away.
* Fixed handling of screen names that have been reformatted with
spaces (and had previously shown up as not ever online).
* Fixed the spelling of the word "exiting".
You can download it here:
http://mamodeo.dyndns.org/MrMessage_srcbin_06272004.zip
Please read the README file before running or asking for support. As
always, feedback is appreciated.

theres an updated torpak (bittorrent preinstalled w/front-end) @ hobbes:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?sh=1&button=Search&key=torpak
this one can be launched from Mozilla :)
regards,
- dink
From the readme.1st:
"torpak/2 packaged by dink
why bittorrent, especially since its not as easy as using
xnap/limewire/etc?? with bittorrent, you're almost guaranteed to receive
the file you want at very high speeds, with limewire/xnap, theres a 20%
chance you'll actually receive an entire file thats bigger than 100megs
torpak contains:
python, bittorrent & a nice launcher, preconfured to run without frying
your brain setting up python 'n stuff.
whats new:
updated to the latest version of python + socket updates
updated the bittorrent client. (fixes the "update your client" errors)
changed the default ports to avoid problems with certain trackers can be
installed in Mozilla/2"

Dear Bargain Hunters:
OfficeDepot.com has the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 2550L (item number
561800) on sale for $498.64. Free shipping to many areas.
There are various coupons and discounts available that may lower the
price. Check this web site for details:
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?catid=18&threadid=259734
For example, the Office Depot "Advantage Club" could give you 10% off.
Also be sure to surf to Office Depot's web site through FatCash.com, and
you'll get a 2.2% rebate through that site.
I've mentioned the 2500L printer before, this model's immediate
predecessor. The 2550L still has all the goodies you'd want for
eComStation printing (including Postscript and PCL). About the only thing
it doesn't have is automatic duplexing. There's a review of the printer
here:
http://hardware.earthweb.com/peripherals/article.php/3368721
I have no affiliation with any of these companies.
