Event: Russian OS/2 conference - the second international conference "OS/2 and modern IT conference" Maple Mountain, Se

An announcement of an upcoming OS/2 conference in Russia. Please note the
content of last years conference. The various presentations were related
mostly to the application of OS/2 in specific industries, such as Space
and Oil. I think this approach on the OS/2 - eComStation conferences in
"the west" may be more attractive to prospective commercial customers
than our normal, technical or application based presentations.

It's also good to see how many industries rely on OS/2 for stability and
security. It'll be interesting to see this years program as soon as it is
released.

Cheers/2

Event: Warpstock Hotel Reservations

10 Jun 2005 19:34:36

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Andy Willis

The ninth edition of the annual Warpstock event will be held at the
Wyndham Harrisburg-Hershey hotel this year. The four day event will start
October 6th with half day classes scheduled Thursday and Friday October 6
and 7 and the general Warpstock presentations on Saturday and Sunday
October 8 and 9.

We have negotiated a very good room rate with the hotel - $99 for either
a single or double room. Their regular corporate rate for these rooms
(not the inflated rack rate) is $169 a night. The hotel has assigned us
some additional rooms for 2 days prior to and 2 days after the event, but
can't guarantee the room rate for those days once the limited numbers are
used up. If you encounter a problem with making reservations please
contact us at hotel2005@warpstock.org so
we can attempt to remedy any glitches as soon as possible.

To make reservations you can call the Wyndham 800 reservation number:
1-877-999-3223 (toll free reservation) or outside U.S./Canda
1-972-915-7070 (International Direct Dial rates apply.) The direct
Wyndham Harrisburg-Hershey hotel phone number is: 1-717-564-5511 and
their fax: 1-717-564-2476. When calling the hotel to make your
reservation, please make sure to mention you are with "Warpstock" in
order to receive the special rate.

Online you can access information about the hotel at:
http://www.wyndhamharrisburg.com/ You can make reservations online here.
<http://www.wyndham.com/wbe/reservations.wnt?PRO=MDTHT&cha=WYNDHAM&grp=1006772TH&arr=10/05/2005&dep=10/09/2005>

To get the low Warpstock rate you must enter the Group code: 1006772TH
You MUST USE this GROUP CODE to get the negotiated rates in their online
reservation system.

These rates are guaranteed for the assigned block of rooms only until
September 22nd at 12:00 midnight. Please make reservations as early as
possible to make sure you have the rooms you need.

We have learned that it is a good idea to join Wyndham by Request.
https://www.wyndham.com/wbr/join.wnt Membership is free and includes
various benefits such as free, in-room High Speed internet access. There
is no advantage to Warpstock for you to do this, we are just advising you
to do this for the free additional benefits. As of now, because of the
outrageous expense there are no plans to provide free internet
availablity in the exhibit area as we have done in the past.

For more on this year's event location, including lots of Hershey area
attractions (mmm, did somebody say chocolate?), see our web site at:

Net: VOICE, Warpstock and OS/2 in article on ComputerWorld.com

10 Jun 2005 01:09:59

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: madodelDESPAM@DESPAMptdprolog.net

Its always interesting to see how one's comments can be edited. It was
also surprising to see myself as the only one quoted in the article,
despite my having given the author links and addresses to other sources.
He left out any mention of updated versions of OS/2 and anu mention of
eComStation, but did mention VOICE and this year's Warpstock, as well as
Warpstock Europe and Warpstock Czech Republic, but no links to the last
three, and no mention of active OS/2 user groups like SCOUG or Bay Warp.
And I've no idea where he got the information that Warpstock was derived
from a character in Star Trek.

Take a look if you like, and let the author know what you think (though
please be nice if you do), but its nice to see at least mention of these
resources in a mainstream computer magazine (even if its only online):

patches are available in the netlabs.org CVS repository.

New in this release is EA support!

The packages are declared as alpha or beta but we got very positive

SW: Test version of DVD Author 0.6.11

05 Jun 2005 11:07:51

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Paul Smedley

Hi All,
I've done a quick compile of DVD Author 0.6.11 and it is available from
http://smedley.info/dvdauthor-0.6.11-os2.zip

As per my port of ffmpeg, this binary requires libc06b4.dll, which is
available from ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/wvgui/libc06b4.zip

As this port has not been widely tested, I'd appreciate any and all
feedback before I upload it to Hobbes.

I've used ffmpeg successfully to convert video to dvd format, then write
to DVD as follows:
ffmpeg -i -target dvd outputfile.mpg
dvdauthor -o outputfile.mpg
dvdauthor -T -o
cd
mkisofs2 -dvdvideo -o image.iso -r .
dvddao image.iso

ffmpeg is available from:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/mmedia/ffmpeg-os2-0.49pre20050603.zip
mkisofs2 is available from:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/mmedia/cd/cd-r/cdrtools2-2.01.01a03.zip
dvddao is available from:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/mmedia/cd/cd-r/dvddao-1.0.0.zip
