As of this posting, the Warpdoctor web site:

http://www.warpdoctor.org

has been updated with the installation instructions and Fastkick utility to allow users to apply Fixpak 14 from a directory on their hard drive.

Links have been updated for both the Image Files and the ZIP (RSU) files, and the Fastkick utility has been updated to comply with the new CSF143 (Corrective Service Facility version 1.43) tool required to apply FP14.

The direct URL to the FP14 installation instructions is:

For those who have been watching and waiting for the WarpCast web site to become active again, we have made some small progress. The web archives up to June 2000 are now back online, in their new format. Also, search features are working (hopefully more quickly than before).

As part of the reorganization of WarpCast, all past news archives will now reside locally at the warpcast.com domain instead of being housed at the OS/2 Supersite (os2ss.com). Those of you who were looking at www.os2ss.com/warpcast should update your bookmarks.

We still have a great deal of work to do to the WarpCast web site and we appreciate your patience. Unfortunately we can't give firm estimates on when the upgrade will be complete but the hard parts -- moving to a new server, improving bandwidth, moving and reorganizing the enormous WarpCast news archive -- are behind us (hopefully).

The WarpCast web site is, of course, at:

http://www.warpcast.com/

SCOUG (Southern California OS/2 User Group) member Gary Granat has written an article regarding FM/2 (a shareware file management program) at:

http://www.scoug.com/os24u/2000/scoug008.fm2.html

Here he talks about possibly using FM/2 to replace the equivalent functions provided by Object Desktop's Object Navigator

However, there is one big problem: no one (not even BMT Micro) has been able to get a hold of the author (Mark Kimes) in recent months. E-mails to his address(es) have bounced.

Please visit the article and e-mail Gary Granat if you have either of the following information:

1) A valid e-mail address for Mark Kimes
2) Experience with FileStar/2 http://www.filestar.com, which Gary does not have working experience with.

I have just discovered Eicon's DIVA LAN ISDN Modem, and have it serving a small network of OS/2 workstations. This device can function as a four-port hub for your office or home, or it can attach to your existing hub. The setup program is VERY COOL! It is a web page served by the device itself! No Windows-only blues. There is also a telnet interface for detailed command-line control.

With its built-in compression, you can get 512 Kb/s out of a normal Basic Rate Interface ISDN line -- in _both_ directions of course. At this speed it competes well with ADSL lines -- but gives you easy fax and phone sharing!

Have a look at it at:

http://www.eicon.com/isdn/desktop.htm

I have no affiliation with Eicon, but I _love_ this device and especially the configuration software that comes with it -- great for OS/2!

Please note that, contrary to implications of a recent WarpCast report, a port of gphoto to OS/2 has been available for months. It needs XFree86/OS2 to run and can be downloaded from:

ttp://birdy.hpage.net

Select "GNOME/2", then "Download" and look in the "GNOME-Apps" section.

Attention all OS/2 users! The biggest OS/2 event of the year is approaching fast, and if you don't act soon, you might miss it!

Warpstock 2000 will be the premier OS/2 conference to attend this year.

If you've never been to Warpstock before, this is definitely the year to go, because it will be the biggest and best Warpstock ever.

OS/2 experts from around the world will be there to impart their wisdom and experiences during the many presentations. Several vendors will also be there to demonstrate and sell their OS/2-compatible and native OS/2 products. But the best part of Warpstock is that you'll be able to spend an entire weekend with hundreds of other people who share your vision of today's best computing environment.

So how much time do you have? Not much! Warpstock 2000 will be in Philadelphia on September 9 and 10. That means you have only 6 weeks left. Special discounts on flights and the hotel are still available. See the web site for details.

The 4th annual Warpstock conference will be held September 9-10, 2000, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and is produced by Warpstock, Inc., a North Carolina non-profit corporation. The Warpstock annual conference is a gathering of OS/2 users and vendors from around the world for the purpose of education and advocacy. More information is available at the Warpstock web site at:

OS/2 users have always considered their favorite operating system as the industrial strength platform for the "connected" user. Recognizing the need for high quality presentations on networking and other related topics, the Warpstock 2000 Committee aims to satisfy the thirst for more knowledge on OS/2 networking. Everyone from seasoned OS/2 network administrators to the home user will get the most out his OS/2 system by attending these presentations.

The following is only a brief summary of the Networking presentations that you may expect to see at Warpstock 2000:

- OS/2 Roadmap to the Application Framework for e-business. Steven King will speak on how IBM continues to enhance OS/2 so that, in addition to preserving customer investments in legacy OS/2 applications, it is the platform for future e-business deployments and for the development of e-business applications.

- Remote-booting Diskless Windows Workstations from OS/2 Warp Server. In this session, Micho Durdevich will show you the issues involved with remote-booting diskless Windows 9x/NT workstations from OS/2 Warp Server, using the OS/2 Warp Server RIPL Service.

- Building Domino Applications for OS/2, by Larry B. Finkelstein.

- OS/2 Networking with Cable/DSL Internet Access. Walter Metcalf shows you how to get a mixed OS/2 and Windows SOHO network (with File and Print access to each other) connected to the internet with these high-speed services.

Additional presentations will be added to our schedule in the following days, including presentations about OS/2 interoperability with alien operating systems. Don't miss Warpstock 2000 if you want to learn more about connecting OS/2 to your LAN, to the internet, or other operating systems.

Early registration ends in less than ONE WEEK FROM NOW. Register before July 31st to benefit from the early registration discount. Use Mensys's secure online ordering system or mail in your registration form. More details can be found at:
