New Warp Doctor meeting time

From: "Jeremy Workman" rs@fyrelizard.com

his is just a short note to let everyone know that the Warp Doctor Team IRC meetings have been changed to Sunday's at 2:00 PM EDT, (18:00 GMT) thanks to everyone who participated in our poll! This will go into effect next Sunday (September, 2nd) since we already had our meeting for this week.

Meetings take place in #warpdoctor on the WEBBnet IRC network. For more on IRC and WEBBnet see http://www.os2voice.org/meetinginfo.html To convert to other time zones you can use the Time Zone Converter at http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc

The new day and time was selected by input from a survey of Warp Doctor supporters. We hope that more people find this new day/time convenient and can attend these meetings. We need everyone's input and assistance to get this project up and running so that we may provide help and support to the OS/2 community. Warp Doctor is a VOICE project and funded by the VOICE membership dues. As with most of the VOICE resources, Warp Doctor will be freely available to all OS/2 users.

The objective of Warp Doctor is to support the information, software, and hardware needs of the OS/2 Community. Warp Doctor was conceived by Dr. Dirk Terrell, the late Dan Casey and others, as a replacement for the old Warp Pharmacy site. Warp Doctor will provide a support facility with the goal of assisting the OS/2 Community in efforts to resolve problems and provide guidance on system operation, tuning and selection. WarpDoctor will assist with resolving both hardware and software issues. In additon, WarpDoctor will assist with application installation and use.

SCOUG meeting Aug. 18: Odin

Contact: Tony Butka tony@scoug.com

The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG) will be this Saturday, August 18, 2001 at 9:00 AM PDT, at Regal Lanes in Orange, 1485 N. Tustin Ave.

Odin Today

Odin - a project of Netlabs - continues to progress. With every build it provides better support for a larger number of Windows applications.

Like many other great pieces of software, Odin is beginning to find uses far beyond what the original authors may have intended.

This month, Programming SIG co-leader Steven Levine will lead us on another look at Odin. We'll take a look on how to get it up and running on your system, and we will look at some of the unexpected places where Odin has turned up. Further info on Odin is located at http://www.netlabs.org/odin/

We'll also have Q&A, a raffle, and then the Saturday SIG meetings:

Sundial SIG: Will again take up their investment tracking project using Mesa 2.

Networking SIG: It is deviating from its' normal schedule this month to meet after the general meeting. Steve Schiffman will show you what it takes to print to an I/P-connected printer.

Help Desk chats now happen on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM PDT. If you've got a problem with hardware or software, join the chat and ask for help. For further info, go to http://www.scoug.com/chat/index.html

Sunday, September 9, 2:30 PM PDT meetings at Chapman University, Orange: (NOTE: It is the second Sunday of September due to the Labor Day weekend)

OS/2 Help Desk: Got problems with your system? Volunteers at the OS/2 Help Desk will help you solve them. Bring your system and all related components along with a detailed explanation of your problem.

Networking SIG: Will be returning to its' normal meeting place and will be providing help to members with various networking issues.

How to get to Regal Lanes:

From the 55 freeway, exit Katella Ave. heading west. Turn right (north) at the first major intersection onto Tustin Ave. At the next signal you'll find Regal Lanes on your right. It's across from the Toyota of Orange dealership.

There's lots of parking on the south side of the building. Enter from the east entrance of the building (farthest from Tustin Ave.), not the main (front) entrance to the facility. Take the stairs to the 2nd floor; meeting rooms (and restrooms) will be on your left.

Handicapped access is via an elevator by the front door.

OR: Go to http://www.scoug.com/directions.html; there is a map to Regal Lanes, plus a more detailed map ~driving directions from Yahoo!

How to get to Chapman University:

There are two ways to get directions:
1) Go to http://www.scoug.com/warpexpowest/sitemap.html
2) Go to http://www.mapquest.com/ and enter the address 400 N. Center Street, Orange, CA.

You can park in any of the University lots for free on Sundays, but if you part on the street, watch the signs carefully or else risk getting a parking ticket.

Come to Hashinger Hall Science Building, room 203. It's on the second floor and there's an elevator for you to bring up your equipment.

Come and join us!
