Have you booked your flight to Warpstock yet?
(best viewed with a fixed-width font such as Courier)
Have you booked your flight to Warpstock yet? Well, it's time to do it -
we're in the sweet spot for the airfare to San Francisco! Here are some
examples of current air fare (including most fees and surcharges) from
Travelocity based on traveling Friday before Warpstock and leaving Monday
after Warpstock ends.
round trip Airport Airport
City price Code Name
------------------------------------------------
Chicago $231 ...... ORD (O'Hare)
(or on ATA) $198 ...... MDW (Midway)
Austin $254 ...... AUS (Bergstrom)
Phoenix $241 ...... PHX (Sky Harbor)
NY (Newark) $291 ...... EWR (Newark)
SFO (San Francisco)
You should always shop around and compare prices so check out other
low-price travel reservation sites such as,
http://www.1800cheapseats.com/
http://www.airgorilla.com/
http://www.orbitz.com/
And, have you made your reservation at the hotel? The reserved rooms are
going fast. We've had reports of difficulty reserving rooms after
Warpstock (you can get the fantastic Warpstock rate for up to 5 days
before and after Warpstock). Don't wait for all these rooms to be gone.
We're at a Hilton DoubleTree hotel this year and, like most Warpstock's,
the action takes place in the hotel at all the informal gatherings that
happen over breakfast, lunch, and drinks in the evening. The $85-a-night
price is fantastic, these rooms' rack rate is several times that amount.
You'd have to be over 63 to get a better rate! http://www.bamart.com/Store.asp?m=Warpstockinc&n=14&k=286&s=Hotel+Information
FLASH FLASH FLASH!!! Early Bird Pricing for Warpstock itself has been
extended to September 25th! It's $99 now for TWO DAYS! That's only $9
more than the single day pricing. After September 25th, it will be $140.
So, save some money and book now. It's like getting the Social for only
$10! http://www.bamart.com/Store.asp?m=Warpstockinc&n=9&k=4268&s=Registration
Once again, Warpstock will fulfill our mandate to get the latest and
greatest information on OS/2 and eCS to you our guests. We haven't posted
all the presentations yet (those presenters just won't get us their
synopsis and bios to us in a timely manner!) but WE DO HAVE MANY UNPOSTED
PRESENTATIONS at this time. Serenity has once again taken the lead as a
Warpstock Patron, and Bob St.John will be manning a booth. eCS
Presentations from the source. We know that Mensys' Joachim Benjamins too
will be at Warpstock along with Stalker Software makers of Communigate Pro
and San Francisco area-based Help Desk Computers. Networking? We will
have lots of networking everything this year: Linux, OS/2-eCS, Windows,
Wireless Networking, Home Networking. Warpstock Presenters will help you
understand how to put that home or office network together. And, SLASHDOT
is sending one of their editors to do a presentation, too!
And finally, Warpstock's Giveaway. We promise not to toss anything at the
audience this year, cause we're going to give away several wired and
wireless cable/DSL routers and they might hurt someone, some straight out
of the box and some we used for our Warpstock network. SMC and Siemens
products that are totally compatible with OS/2 and some routers have print
server and dialup support. We even have a network WIFI PCMCIA card or two
to give away. So, even if you have a dialup network we're going to give
away routers to help you connect and share that connection with other
computers. And who knows what that three letter company will bring to
give away?
Warpstock 2003 is our 7th Warpstock. You never know what will happen! Be
there and find out for yourself.

Mozilla Thunderbird 0.2
http://www.mozilla.org/ports/os2/
"September 5, 2003 Thunderbird 0.2 (Zipfile) have been released. Requires
the C runtime DLLs."
Thunderbird website: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/thunderbird/
"Mozilla Thunderbird is a redesign of the Mozilla mail component. Our goal
is to produce a cross platform stand alone mail application using the XUL
user interface language. Our intended customer is someone who uses Mozilla
Firebird (or another stand alone browser) as their primary browser and
wants a mail client based on mozilla that "plays nice" with the browser.
In addition, by focusing solely on stand alone mail, we believe we can
make some dents in the overall footprint and performance of the mail
client by removing components and chrome we don't need. On top of that,
the UI becomes much cleaner as a stand alone application as opposed to
being part of the mozilla suite."

[ My ISP changed their homepage server domain #^*^%!! so I've killed the
web page for now. ]
The major news this time is the re-use of existing help windows, just like
original View used to do. This makes it much more useful for e.g. command
prompt help. It also meant the installer has got *a lot* more complicated,
so I suppose there will be some problems. Read the readme.txt...
NewView is a free replacement for the original OS/2 or eComStation online
help system.
Major enhancements are:
- New user interface (split window)
- Select and copy direct from window
- Easy to use global (all files) search
- Remembers size & position
- Most recently used files list
- Smooth scrolling display
- Current topic always highlighted in contents
- Can go forward as well as back in history
- Options for fonts, colors and more
- Annotate help files
- Bookmarks
- Fully resizeable
V2.8.4
- Checks for existing help windows with the same files
open and uses them instead of opening new windows.
- Fixed topic display problem (DBExpert.hlp)
- Corrected spacing in character graphics,
when a custom font is used (pmprintf.hlp).
- Add blank line before/after cgraphics to match view
- Dutch thanks to Kris Steenhaut
- Japanese and Korean translations
Thanks to Tomoarai
- Updated Russian translation
- Standalone install can optionally associate
NewView with *.inf, *.hlp
- Text files now installed
Full install, OS/2: x:\os2\book\NewView
Full install, eCS 1.1+: x:\ecs\doc\NewView
- Standalone install uses %PROGRAMS%, if set,
for base folder
- Installer checks for potential conflicts with
programs and help file

tin 1.7.0 for OS/2
For anyone who's interested, I've uploaded a port of tin, Iain Lea's
menu-driven text-mode newsreader from Unix, to Hobbes. I'm really not a
programmer, but the source is good enough that it was pretty easy to
port. I'm not sure how well it works in all languages -- it has GNU
gettext compiled in, but I couldn't get it to work with any existing OS/2
ports of libiconv.
Nevertheless, it was the first newsreader I ever used and it's still fast
and easy. And best of all, no reaching for the damn mouse. ;-)
This version supports ANSI color, automatic downloading, batch
downloading, binary decoding (BASE64, UUENCODE and yEnc by way of the
UUDEVIEW headers), multiple sorting and threading options, easy kill
filtin-1.7.0-os2.zipters (subj: *\[FUD4\]*), &c. &c. &c.
Only tested on MCP2, which is all I have installed, but presumably it will
work with most recent OS/2 versions.

WordWrap 1.5
WordWrap 1.5 has been released. New in this version is user-defined
character substitution (good for code page conversion, for instance).
Also, WordWrap 1.5 PM, the graphical front-end for wordwrap.cmd, has been
completely redesigned to be easier to use and more powerful than ever!
WordWrap is a REXX script to cleanup extraneous whitespace characters in
plain text files. It also has the ability to wrap lines to a specified
margin, to output with basic HTML markup for viewing in a web browser,
and now the ability to substitute characters such as non-standard "high
ASCII" characters from other operating systems and languages. See
substitute.txt in the Zip file for an example of user-defined character
substitution.

WordWrap 1.6 - IMPORTANT UPDATE
