Open Office on OS/2 and eCS Previews at Warpstock 2003
Warpstock 2003 in San Francisco, taking place the weekend of October 18th,
will host an important presentation previewing the newly announced support
for Open Office on OS/2 and eCS. Here's the background info.
Serenity Systems, NorthLAN Solutions, and Innotek Systemberatung recently
concluded an agreement to, "make Open Office support available to OS/2
users". While complete details of this agreement remain confidential, we
do know that Innotek will be doing the development and that Serenity will
offer the product to end users through its reseller channel.
Innotek's Oliver Stein will be making a presentation at Warpstock 2003
during which he will demo the code, tell us what Open Office is, and what
the OS/2 specifics are. He'll also be covering the results of their first
tests (" ... the performance will be really impressive.") and how
Innotek's great font engine can be used to get the best possible WSIWYG
on-screen display. Oliver will also be clarifying the timings of expected
beta and General Availability roll-outs of this exciting new choice for
OS/2 and eCS office productivity software users!

Computer Data Strategies to exhibit and present at Warpstock
CDS (Computer Data Strategies, Inc.) will be exhibiting their wares and
giving a presentation on "Disaster Recovery and Backup" at Warpstock 2003.
This presentation, to be delivered by CDS' Brent Bowlby, will focus
primarily on the effective use of their flagship products Back Again/2000
Workstation and Server.
CDS is a software development and consulting organization focused on
providing data management software and services to the computer industry.
Their forte has always been computer backup software beginning with their
original flagship product, Back Again/2, for the OS/2 platform. The
latest evolution of Back Again/2 is Back Again/2000 Version 4.0.
CDS' product line greatly expanded with the launch, in 1998, of their Back
Again II family of data protection products for
systems running Microsoft's Windows NT operating system as well as through
the acquisition of the FaxWorks Pro line of OS/2-based FAX products.
CDS' data communication products are full-featured voice and FAX products
for the Windows, Linux and OS/2 platforms. The latest version of their
FAX software for OS/2-eCS is PMfax Pro Version 3.2. CDS recently
introduced their PrimaFax Pro line of FAX products for Windows and Linux.

Maul Publisher V2.26
Maison Anglais is pleased to announce V2.26 of Maul Publisher, a
professional desktop publisher for OS/2 and eComStation.
This version is still a free download for registered users.
Well, the hunting season is almost upon us, but the little animals have
nothing to fear from me as I have been hunting bugs!
So the result of all this, with feedback from a small number of actual
users, is a much cleaner version of Maul Publisher. So you see it _does_
pay to complain if you don't like something!

What's new
==========
- PM123 is now free software! It is released under a BSD-style
license. The OS/2 market is no longer viable, but thanks to all
who paid to make PM123 what it is today, and now have fun playing
with the code. If however you would like us to do work on PM123
under a contract, please do contact us.
- The playlist will now open back automatically if PM123 is closed
with the playlist window left opened.
- Added the "window docking" feature to the playlist window as well
as to "Slider 123" (see the extras in the source code package).
Can be adapted to windows from plug-ins or other processes too.
- Fixed the "New Age" problem where the "New Age" music style could
not be used in ID3 tags.
- Added CDDB support to CDDAPLAY.DLL.
- A MikMod DLL was created by Kevin Langman http://go.to/langman .
- PM123 no longer crashes when receiving invalid commands through
the pipe such as "echo *status > \pipe\pm123".
- Included "querysong.c", a sample on how to read information from
pm123's pipe in C. Also applies to any other languages.
- Updated the ID3 tag genre list to 148 genres.
- Include a "Plug-in" entry in the main pop-up menu, allowing easy
access to the plug-ins' configuration dialog. A check mark
indicates that the plug-in is enabled or active.
- The entry field in "Load URL" dialog is now selected by default.
- The timer display is now updated every 100 ms instead of 500 ms,
so the seconds should not "skip" anymore.
- Fixed a possible crash when an error occurs in wavout.dll.
- Fixed crashing skinutil.exe when displaying help screen.
mpg123.dll 1.20 in pm123 1.2:
- Added MMX support to use with slow energy conservative CPUs.
- Will now load some corrupted VBR files properly.
Virtual Machine Topic at Warpstock
Topic: New Virtual Machine Options for OS/2 - eComStation
Proposed Topic Abstract: For the past year, Serenity Systems has been
involved in expanding the support for host and guest operating systems in
the NetSys GmbH virtual machine product, twoOStwo. This topic will discuss
plans for delivering this support and what this will mean to OS/2 users,
as well as how the technology will be integrated into the eComStation
product family.
The presentation will cover the unique host and guest support combinations
being made available, including support for OS/2 - eComStation as a guest
running on Linux and FreeBSD systems.
There will be a detailed demonstration of Linux host support running
eComStation, and the session will include information on participating in
the public beta programs and the planned OS/2 host feature.

eBayWatch/2 Ver 1.09p
Hello All,
I have uploaded ver 1.09p to -
http://www.eclipse.net/~knkrchnr
"eBayWatch/2 is an auction management tool for OS/2 users. It works solely
with the eBay auction site. It is meant to aid the user in searching for,
monitoring and bidding on auction items. eBayWatch/2 is copyright
freeware."
From the readme -
- fix: Trace/log files fail to show concurrent bid activity
- chg: "Bids" column now shows Quantity available for Dutch auctions
Auctions which do not show the number of bids will show the
remaining quantity in the bids field as "9A" ("A" for available).
If there are more than 99, the field will show "99+".
- new: "Buy it Now" items are supported for bidding
Tested for snipe and demand bidding, both regular "Buy it Now" and
"Buy it Now" only items. If bidding on a regular "Buy it Now" item
the program will attempt to determine if you are making a regular
or "Buy it Now" bid based on the item Buy Now price and your bid.
Note that if the "Buy Now" option has expired, your bid will be
placed as a regular bid even if at what was the "Buy it Now"
price.
- fix: End of bid cycle "(No Bids yet)" still on some auctions
- fix: Some bids fail with an immediate false "Auction has ended" message
As usual, any feedback of things strange or broken is appreciated.
Thanks,
Ken
