The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG) will be this
Saturday, December 18, at 9:00 AM PST, at the IBM offices located in Plaza Tower,
600 Anton Blvd., Costa Mesa, on the 2nd floor.
Last General Meeting of 1999; This is One You Don't Want to Miss!
The meeting topic is still TBA. However, you should definitely plan on attending
because December is always a fun meeting.
Raffle Prizes Wanted - Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Once again, as in years of yore, we
are soliciting your OS/2 hand-me-downs for the final raffle of the year. You know
what we're talking about - all those things that are still good, but you don't use
and they're taking up space, collecting dust. If you don't have a use for them,
but think some other SCOUG members might, then bring them with you to the December
meeting.
After the main meeting, it's time for two of our SIGs:
As the year is drawing to a close, the Programming SIG wil take a few moments
to ponder Y2K issues.
The General Interest Group will also discuss topical issues.
Afterwards: No-host lunch and friendly chat at TGI Friday's across the street
or another local restaurant.
Internet SIG chats happen several times each week. Join them! (For further info,
go to http://www.scoug.com/chat/index.html).
Monday, December 20, 7 PM PST meetings:
Got problems with your system? Volunteers at the OS/2 Help Desk will help you
solve them. Bring your system and all related components along with a detailed explanation
of your problem.
The Networking SIG will be meeting in the Journalism room where they will continue
their efforts to set up and install a peer network. If you are interest in how a
network is built from the ground up, this is your opportunity to get hands-on experience.
The Sundial SIG will resume in January.
When, where, and how to get there: SCOUG will be meeting on Saturday, December
18, at 9:00 AM (PST) at the IBM offices located in Plaza Tower, 600 Anton Bl., Costa
Mesa, CA, on the 2nd floor. From I-405, exit onto Bristol northbound (one exit NW
of the I-405/Hwy 55 interchange). Turn right on Anton Blvd (the first signal north
of I-405). Go east 2 signals and turn right (you will see a TGI Fridays' on your
right, where our after-meeting lunch will be at).
Parking may be a problem due to the holidays. Our advice is to park in the multi-level
garage behind TGI Fridays' across Anton Bl. from IBM. If the garage is staffed,
tell them you are attending a meeting at IBM. If past years are a valid indicator,
the garage will not be charging at the time you leave after the meeting.
For the OS/2 Help Desk and Networking SIG on December 20:
The Eastside Christian School, Heritage Campus, is at 2530 W. La Palma Ave. in
Anaheim. It is on the south side of La Palma Ave. (about 200 ft. E of Magnolia)
on the property of Grace Baptist Church. There is a 2-story office building close
to La Palma Ave. with the address of 2528 up near the roof. Turn in (south) there.
Drive all the way to the back and park along the chain-link fence. NOTE: There is
a lot of freeway construction north of the school on I-5 and the 91 freeways; some
on/off ramps may be closed and/or have detours. Check the SCOUG web site for updates,
and leave yourself plenty of time to find our SIG meeting location.
Further information (including driving directions) can be found on the SCOUG
web site at http://www.scoug.com. The driving
directions (http://www.scoug.com/directions.html)
also include maps for the general meeting and the Help Desk/Networking SIG that
you can print off as needed. Come and join us!

The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG) will be this
Saturday, November 20, at 9:00 AM PST, at the IBM offices located in Plaza Tower,
600 Anton Blvd., Costa Mesa, on the 2nd floor.
OS/2 Marketing Guru to Demonstrate how to Shoot for the Sky!
How *did* that guy do it?
WHY did he do what he did?
After receiving several requests to do so, we've asked the whiz behind SCOUG's
Warp Expo West marketing effort to explain how he successfully marketed the event.
Everything Peter Skye prepared for marketing our successful OS/2 event this year
had a pre-planned strategy and reason. Peter will let us in on his secrets at the
next SCOUG general meeting. This will be an important presentation for all SCOUG
vendors, developers, and even plain old members since Peter's techniques are key
to the success of any event or product. Peter's tricks can be translated into just
about anything.
And of course, Peter is always entertaining, so those who just like to watch
Peter in action will be in for a treat.
After the presentation we'll have Q&A to get your computer problems resolved.
Then a raffle and the Saturday SIG meetings:

OCTOBER MEETING REVIEW
Report on the October 27 meeting of the SIG featuring presentations on remote

NOVEMBER DATA BUS ARTICLE
SIG Leader Larry Lavins' November article for the PACS monthly publication Data
Bus is now on-line. This month's article includes reports and links from the October
meeting, the meeting agenda for November, and other news from the OS/2 world.
The OS/2 SIG of the Philadelphia Area Computer Society invites all interested
computer users to attend the November meeting:
The main feature planned for the November meeting will be a presentation &
demonstration of the full-featured ProNews/2 OS/2 news reader program by SIG member
Jim Nuytens.
Pronews/2 is a top rated OS/2 News client with many features that are lacking
in other OS/2 news readers. Many users regard this unique newsreader as the best
available, bar none. Key features include a process manager that gives the user
complete control over queued tasks (such as downloading articles), true message
threading and fully customizable toolbars. It also includes an advanced filtering
and thread-watching mechanism that can work on a group-by-group or global basis.
The user interface is based on the familiar and intuitive notebook format, with
tabs for quickly accessing subscribed groups, new groups, all groups, queued processes
and connections.
The most recent version, PN2_15B1.ZIP, can be downloaded from hobbes, OS/2 Supersite,
BMT Micro and other OS/2 websites. OS/2 e-Zine! published a very favorable review
of ProNews/2 last year. Read it at http://www.os2ezine.com/v3n01/pn2.htm
Other agenda items include SIG business matters, OS/2 news, new software releases,
Q&A session, software raffle, etc. An OS/2 system will be on hand for demos
of OS/2, Java, Internet, etc., as time permits. Free light refreshments will also
be available.
Mark the date and time: Wednesday, November 17th, at 7:00pm, to hear about all
the new and exciting developments, or if you have questions about OS/2 Warp and
Java. OS/2 SIG meetings are open and free for OS/2 users, their guests and all others
interested in learning about OS/2 and associated Java technology.
