SW: Unofficial Mozilla 1.8a5 available

26 Nov 2004 19:36:40

Forwarded message from "Peter Weilbacher" on Fri, 26 Nov 2004 01:02:31 UTC
Posted on: http://secnews.netscape.com/netscape.public.mozilla.os2

Hi all,

I just made unofficial builds of 1.8a5 available from my builds page (see
sig), both as installer and as ZIP file. As usual, the C-Library version
0.5.1 from Innotek is needed.
http://download.innotek.de/gccos2/runtime/libc-0.5.1.exe

I have made a few modifications over Mike's official build. These four
should not cause any incompatibilities:
0. Packed the executables with lxLite
1. Enabled MNG/JNG graphic formats (type MNG_BUILD_FULL_MNG, bug 18574)
2. Horizontal Scrollwheel to work by default (bug 231718)
3. Removed extra menu item for IE users (bug 255611)
4. Removed debug output of calendar (bug 271790)

The next three will cause problems with e.g. Language Packs. I learned a
bit from the last releases and therefore they are not part of the main
download, I put them in an extra ZIP file (test-mozilla-os2-1.8a5.zip)
instead:
4. Enable F1 to call the help contents (extra patch from bug 88739)
5. Slightly reorganize the print dialog, now uses checkbox instead of
radio buttons (bug 263312). Questions:
+ How bothered are you by the removal of the filename field?
+ How many are printing in batches and would like the filename to
be remembered after each print operation?
6. Added GUI options for horizontal mouse scrollwheel (bug 143038). I
have tested that this works with the AMouse driver version 2.50.
See
under Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Mouse Wheel.
Especially for the last two "testing" features I would like some feedback
( http://secnews.netscape.com/netscape.public.mozilla.os2 or to "mozilla
at weilbacher.org")!

Btw, as for the official build the MailNews drag-and-drop crash is still
there, Davide's NSPR fix for enigmail is included (but untested).

Cheers, Peter.

SW: PMM2MOZ - Correction: Convert PMMail *.msg files to Mozilla/Thunderbird (Correction)

26 Nov 2004 14:26:45

From: David Eckman

[Correction of message sent yesterday that referenced Firefox instead of
Thunderbird. The program has been modified to reflect that and to display
file names as they are being converted so the user knows its progress:]

PMM2MOZ is a program to convert PMMail *.msg files to Mozilla /
Thunderbird format. The corrected program has just been uploaded to Hobbes
and is still in /pub/incoming, but is expected to move to
/pub/os2/apps/internet/mail/reader. Search for it in /pub/incoming or
use:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=pmm2moz.zip

I've received information that the program requires Classic REXX, so if
you use Object REXX and it does not run, switch to Classic REXX and then
switch back after your files are converted.

HW: Tim's Warped Bargains: Duplexing Laser Printer $130

25 Nov 2004 19:07:05

From: Timothy Sipples

Dear Bargain Hunters:

TigerDirect.com has the Panasonic KX-P7305 duplexing laser printer on sale
for $199.99 plus shipping and (if applicable) tax. There's a $70 rebate,
and you can get another 2% rebate by surfing to TigerDirect.com from
FatCash.com.

This laser printer has both USB and parallel ports. (You can add a
network or wireless adapter at relatively low additional cost, since those
are plentiful.) It also has lots of memory and built-in Postscript and
PCL support, so it'll work well with eComStation. (Try the HP LaserJet 4
Duplex driver if you can't find a better match. That should work fine for
600 dpi duplex printing with this printer.)

As always, check the cost of consumables ahead of time.

I have no affiliation with these companies.

SW: DFSee version 6.16 released

25 Nov 2004 07:52:23

From: "Jan van Wijk"

DFSee version 6.16 has been released today, with enhancements for recovery
and analysis, more consistent number-format for command and option values
and quite a few bug-fixes.

There are also specific "SMALL" downloads per operating system now, for
people on slower internet connections like dial-up ...

DFSee is the SWISS-ARMY-KNIFE for disk and filesystem problems. With
FDISK-like displays, analysis and recovery, FIX commands, UNDELETE for
HPFS/NTFS, imaging and cloning. More details at:

http://www.dfsee.com/dfsee.htm

Direct download links:

http://www.dfsee.com/dfsee/dfsee6xx.zip

Just the 'dfsee' Linux distribution with documentation:

http://www.dfsee.com/dfsee/dfsee6xx_linux.tgz

Several "SMALL package" ZIPs are available now per platform:

http://www.dfsee.com/dfsee.htm#dfseedos
http://www.dfsee.com/dfsee.htm#dfseeos2

and so on ...

Most important functional changes since 6.15:

- FDISK auto-set commands like 'LVM' now forces a base of 0
- FIXBOOT -s, FAT32 force copy spare sectors, even when invalid
- FileDlg Fix Linux TxTree/TxTrueName for files > 2Gb
- FileDlg Enhanced size/ and fname in footer line
- GEO Added new -Sync option and display usage on -?
- IM Set correct image size and geometry on open RAW file
- LSN New command to display an LSN, specified as mcs-number
- LVM / PL Fix BMGR-list in menu-items empty after
- LVM 1,r Support relative partition-numbers to be used
- MENU Mode=FAT, fix bootsector, specify sector type (OS)
- MENU DFSDISK, try harder, allow alternate geometry input
- Output Automatic timestamping when a logfile is active
- PART Improved invalid EBR ERROR messages, better reference
- PART Added cylinder numbers to many ERROR messages
- PART Overlapping partitions changed from warning to ERROR
- PART New ERROR reported on multiple links/logicals in EBR
- PATH In HPFS and NTFS, fixed incorrect output and trap
- Params Updated many commands to allow mcs-number format input
- Screen Repaint whole screen on Ctrl-L (Linux standard key)
- Startup switch -d- surpresses add physical disks to devicemap
- Startup switch -H:[x] sets HEX/DEC default for mcs-numbers
- Usage Text standardized for many of the FDISK commands
- VREMOVE Reset forced/last geometry for next VIRT disk created
- Linux Shell scripts enhanced to find executable automatically

Note:
There is a design change in the Linux 2.6 kernel for disk-translation that
affects many disk-tools including DFSee. The effect is that the geometry
used will be DIFFERENT from what the BIOS uses. Using disk-tools
(including Suse 9.1 and Fedore core-2 install!) that are not aware of
these changes may lead to problems on multi-boot systems. (Windows not
booting, OS/2 or eCS loosing LVM info)

Creating partitions using DFSee, then PSAVE before installing Linux allows
you to get Linux installed, and a PRESTORE after installation will make
the other operating systems happy again ...

SW: Wireless LAN Monitor (WLAN) 1.10

25 Nov 2004 00:02:37

From: madodelDESPAM@ptdprolog.net

ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/wlan/xwlan110.zip

"this program provides the following features:

monitoring the status of your Wireless LAN connection
support of multipe connection profiles, which can be exported and
imported
optionally configuring the TCP/IP interface of the Wireless LAN device
automatic connection scan on startup
automatic generation of WEP keys
detection of public Wireless LANs

The Wireless LAN Monitor is available both as a XCenter Widget as well as
a standalone program. If either XWorkplace or the OEM-Version EWorkplace
(contained in eComStation V1.1 or better) is installed, the usage of the
XCenter Widget is recommended because of the better integration into the
user interface. "

This version has fixed the problem I had with the previous version of not
allowing selection of a different profile. From the revision history for
1.10 in the documentation:

"New:

added hotspot mode and a feature to create a new profile from a
connection to a hotspot

added feature to un- or reconfigure the TCP/IP interface

added feature to call a script on disconnect and connect events

added IP address range conflict detection for cases, where the TCP/IP
interface of the Wireless LAN device is to be configured for the same
address range like one of the other TCP/IP interfaces in the system

added new property settings:

-new page for Radio settings
-new page for Script settings
-new property error beep, when getting out of range on page Errorhandling

added new status codes

-TCP/IP interface disabled
-script executing

added new menu items

-Public hotspot
-TCP/IP interface
-WLAN device

connection profiles can now be copied

Wireless LAN Monitor now appends the default extension *.wlp to the names
of the files, to which connection profiles are exported, if no filename
extension has been specified. In order to store to a file without a
filename extension, specify a dot at the end of the filename.

adds Wireless LAN driver title to tooltip text if no card is detected

Fixed:

in order to replace the XCenter Widget DLL it is now sufficient to close
all XCenter instances. Before, it was required to restart the Workplace
Shell.

encryption data is now being sent to the Wireless LAN driver only if it
reported to support encryption. If it was sent anyway before, this would
leave the Wireless LAN Monitor in an indefinite state

switching between Wireless LAN drivers will now properly work

fixed undo error on the properties page

when configuring the TCP/IP interface of the Wireless LAN device, the ARP
cache will now be flushed

the connection profile selection dialog does not anymore allow deletion
of the currently active connection profile

tooltip text will not longer be modified if mouse pointer is not over
widget

handling of DHCP configuration and release of DHCP lease reworked and
optimized

storage of properties data redesigned, preventing incompatibilities
between future versions

Wireless LAN Monitor will now also load status strings in other language
than english

reworked notificaton beeps on events when getting in range or out of
range

Online Help:

Monitor Status Display: added information on new status bitmaps
Radio: new property page
Errorhandling: added new property for range beeps
Script: new property page
Detecting public Wireless LANs: new page on hotspot mode
Mouse Actions and Additional options for the standalone Wireless LAN
Monitor: added information on moving the standalone program with mouse
button one
Limitations: removed information concerning problems when replacing the
XCenter Widget DLL"

SW: [New/Updated] FPos & Iconomize v0.60

24 Nov 2004 16:54:29

Forwarded message from "Rich Walsh" on Wed, 24 Nov 2004 17:50:24 UTC
Posted on: comp.os.os2.apps

I'm pleased to announce the release of two ini maintenance utilities, the
new FPos v0.60, and the completely revised Iconomize v0.60.

FPos
----
Have you ever wondered why checkini reports "folder position for
non-folder object"? Have you ever wondered what all those entries under
PM_Workplace:FolderPos were for? FPos answers these questions. Once you
know what theu do, you'll probably want to delete most of them. Using
FPos to clean up this entry can reduce the size of your os2.ini quite
considerably.

Iconomize
---------
This unique tool lets you eliminate the single largest source of bloat in
os2.ini: duplicate icon data. Running Iconomize just once can reduce the
size of your os2.ini anywhere from 10% to 25%. v0.60 has been completely
rewritten. It now displays all objects and their icons in an
easier-to-use listing format. It also offers new features, including the
abilitity to save an object's custom icon to file.

You can get thses freeware utils from hobbes:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=fpos060.zip
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=iconomize060.zip

or from:

http://e-vertise.com/rws/fpos060.zip
http://e-vertise.com/rws/iconomize060.zip

Both programs were created to demonstrate the features of Remote Workplace
Server. RWS is a developer's toolkit that lets programs access the WPS as
though they were part of it. A new version, v0.60, has just been
released. For more info, obtain rws060.zip
