We finaly created official mailinglists for both UNIAUD and WarpVision at
netlabs.org. We had quite a lot of UNIAUD or WarpVision related postings
in the public OS/2 newsgroups the past weeks so it was about time to
provide an official place for such questions.
The developer is reading the groups as well so you might get answers
directly from the source.
As usual, we provide serveral interfaces for the mailinglists:
- classic mailinglist
- NNTP gateway for your newsreader
- BLOG like web interface
- thread like web interface
- RSS feeds
(the webinterface at gmane.org seems to be down at the moment)
More information can be found at:
http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/Mailinglists
Available lists:
warpvision-dev
warpvision-user
uniaud-dev
uniaud-user
Please do *not* post normal questions to the -dev lists! Those lists are
reserved for all people who would like to contribute to the development.
The full sourcecode of both projects is available so feel free to
contribute!
Thanks

OpenTTD, an open source clone of the popular DOS/Windows-based game
"Transport Tycoon Deluxe" by Chris Sawyer, has been ported to OS/2 and an
experimental release of version 0.3.5 has been made. We would be very
interested in hearing about the experiences of any OS/2 users who try this
game, as there are a few bugs still in the OS/2 version (which uses SDL),
mainly concerning keyboard input and network support. If any interested
gamers or particularly programmers could help out, please get in touch.
OpenTTD can be downloaded from http://sf.net/projects/openttd/ and more
information on the game can be found at www.openttd.com. Note that the
original game data files are currently required: for information on how to
obtain these, see http://www.tt-forums.net .
[Moderator note: The readme_os2.txt says:
"OpenTTD: OS/2 version ** CURRENTLY INCOMPLETE **
=====================
OpenTTD has been ported to work on OS/2 4.x or later (including
eComStation). At the moment, it does not work properly, but it can compile
and work to an extent.
Libraries Required
------------------
SDL.DLL (SDL 1.2.7) and FSLib.dll are required: these can be downloaded
from the Files section at http://sourceforge.net/projects/openttd/ - see
"os2-useful.zip".
Note that to use the compiled program, I have found that a version of the
Scitech Display Drivers or its later incarnation (see www.scitech.com) are
necessary for it to work.
Known Issues
------------
- Keyboard input doesn't work
- Multiplayer doesn't work correctly
- Minor file selector issues with drives"]

This is the Christmas Edition of FotoGet/2 Version 1.0.6ce, a freeware
utility to ease the transfer of your pictures from your digital camera to
your eComStation (or OS/2) PC. The camera must be accessible from eCS
(OS/2) by a driveletter. As you might know already, this is not a device
driver.
This Christmas Edition is a bit special.
Attention, it comes without NConvert. So keep NConvert.EXE from a previous
release.
I wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
A special thank you goes to Guillaume Gay who provided the inspiration for
this Special Edition.

We have created a website that summarizes all information about the paid
port of DOSBox to OS/2. The page is hosted at the WIKI at netlabs.org:
http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/DOSBox_Port
About the offer:
In the OS2.org web forum, Martin Klingenfuss was searching for someone to
port the DOS emulator DOSBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net) to OS/2. Mr.
Klingenfuss personally offered a payment of EUR 500 and encouraged other
people to sponsor the project. Currently, three other people have joined
in and we can now offer 600 EUR to the person or team that successfully
ports DOSBox to OS/2. If you want more information on this, please visit
the website mentioned above!

To avoid misconceptions here an additional note to my posting from
yesterday:
OS/2 and eCs users have to download the Jeti2 archive, not Jeti. Jeti2 is
a special version of Jeti, optimized for OS/2, and it is supported by
Volker Ehlert (Ehlertronic). The other version (Jeti) will not run under
OS/2 and will not be supported by Ehlertronic. But Jeti2 runs not only on
OS/2, it runs also on other Java-enabled operating systems.

based on ALSA project. Maintainers do NOT undertake a commitment to add
new cards that are lacking support in ALSA project, but are going to
refresh UniAud with latest ALSA sources as far as possible. Bugfixes for
hardware specific code will correspond to ALSA fixes. Also, some nuances
are possible, but in most cases we are going to proceed like this. Authors

neither DART nor other exists OS/2's audio subsystems. "

Hi again,
I have put together both ZIP and Installer build of the recent release of
Mozilla 1.7.5. This version includes a few security updates (although
unfortunately it does not fix all the known security holes AFAIU) over the
last stable release 1.7.3 (.4 was skipped) and the exact same rendering
engine codebase as Firefox 1.0. Overall there are more than 300 little
fixes in this version.
My unofficial OS/2 build is again available from my builds page (see sig,
you may have to reload the _frame_) and includes as usual MNG/JNG support
as well as the fix to run enigmail (although untested) and the Calendar.
For the German language pack you will still need the extra file
available on the webpage.

For anyone interested, I put a beta of postgreSQL v8.0 rc1 on Hobbes.
"PostgreSQL, the worlds most advanced Open Source database software."
The file is postgreSQL-8.0-rc1.zip
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=postgreSQL-8.0-rc1.zip
It is built using the GCC 3.3.5 compiler, and I included libc06b2.dll with
it.
I am using OBJ_ANY to allocate shared memory so it will use the high
memory region for buffers. This means you have to have Warp 4.5 to run it.

From: "Roderick Klein"
Hello,
If you live in the European Union, please read this.
People don't have to send me emails back how to lobby. I have been to
Brussels twice on behalf of Mensys to make our voice heard on the subject
of software patents.
To put in nut shell. Software patents are a bad thing for OS/2, eCS and
Linux. Its certainly going to be abused by (a) *certain* compan(y)(ies) on
the market to kill choice (they more or less stated that clear enough).
Open source has given OS/2 plenty of tools and programs, for example: The
GCC compiler ported by Innotek from Linux to OS/2. Thanks to this compiler
(which is open source) we have the Mozilla (which is also open source)/IBM
Web Browser on OS/2 and eComStation. Other things like Apache, MySQL and
PHP that are all open source.
This year with a succesful lobby the European Parliament changest a draft
law from the European Commision. The reason Open Source is more at risk
is because the whole source code of applications can be read. Also a lot
of software patents in the US should have *never* been granted they cover
to many basic ideas.
An example of crazy software patents, read here:
http://webshop.ffii.org/
Now however a dirty game is being played.
Drop by here for more information:
www.ffii.org
As nice quote from the FFII website describes the situation:
http://kwiki.ffii.org/Demo0412En Laura Creighton, software entrepreneur,
venture capitalist and Vice President of FFII
"Before today it was possible for generous people to look charitably at
this text as an example of a tragic mistake, not malice. But not with this
last-minute maneuvering. Only the most committed opponent to the
democratic process would believe that the proper response to the
widespread consensus that there is something profoundly wrong with the
Council's text, is to race it through with an A-item approval the week
before Christmas in a Fisheries Council Meeting. The bad smell coming from
Brussels has nothing to do with the fish."
(My personel comment this is not the only time Brussel is smelly in a
political sense.:-) ).
What you can do ?
Goto www.ffii.org and understand what happens and contact your local
parliament member tomorrow. Presure helped before and it seems its
required again! In general the lobby against software patents can use more
people to help out FFII. Please note I'm just a very small contributor to
FFII and not realy linked to the organisation.
