MR/2 v2.25 Released
Hi,
I released v2.25 today, as many of you might know from my morning mailing.
http://nick.secant.com/mr2ice.htm
Changes in v2.25
----------------
A "stability" release before I start changing some internal data structures
and working on threading some other functions.
o More bug fixes, some specifically for the Win32 platform, but many dealing
with "core" issues.
o In preparation for a proposed new filter type, there is now a way to queue
"new mail" for addition into any account's inbox. Simply, before each
poll for new mail, a subdircetory is checked for message files to include as part
of the "new mail" process. Using the default MAIL account as an example,
placing a message file with a .RCV suffix in the xfer subdirectory of mail (i.e.,
"mail\xfer\new00001.rcv") will result in this file being included with
the results of the next mail poll. If no mail is found via the normal poll route
but a single file still exists in the XFER subdirectory, MR/2 will report ONE new
message. NOTE THAT the xfer files imported are also deleted.
-------------
I'm going to add some functionality to filters, soon, I think. While I'm in there,
does anyone have any requests? My short list is at home, but on it is the ability
to print a message, the ability to redirect via filter, and I want to be able to
CC/BCC someone via filter .. it may end up being the same as redirect. We'll see.
If you've got a want, now's the time to speak up!
Oh, and possibly a filter that will "send message to this MR/2 account"
(local, no TCP required).
Thanks,
Nick

Following announcement was on IBM's news://ncc.hursley.ibm.com/ibmpub.java.os2
News server
A new service refresh of Java 1.3 for OS/2 is now available. The build version
is co130-20010212 and can be accessed from Software Choice.
This service refresh is a full install, using Feature Install, just like Java
1.3 GA was. (It is different to the 1.1.8 self extracting zip service refresh.)
Please remember to extract javainrt.exe and javaintk.exe, if required, into a temporary
directory at the same time before running install.
It includes the following fixes: Craft 3.5 for XFree86 OS/2 released Warcraft-like game for X, supports up to 3 players and computer opponents. Author: uwe.beyer@gmd.de http://borneo.gmd.de/~hua Download: http://borneo.gmd.de/AS/janus/craft/index.html There are always lots of frustrations from OS/2 User for the lack of supported
devices. For some this is not true and for other it is - it sort of depends on how
keen Your are to get the latest hardware for the system you have. Current poll ask
for what category of hardware You would like to see better support for and if possible
(depends on the quality of the feedback) a follow up on the current poll will be
made http://www.os2world.com/polls.html Kim Haverblad kim@os2world.com Warpstock 2001 to be held in Toronto, Canada The Board of Directors of Warpstock, Inc. is pleased to announce that the location
and dates for Warpstock 2001 have been selected. OS/2 users and developers worldwide
are invited to join their kindred in Toronto, Canada from October 6-8, 2001. You read that correctly - this year's Warpstock will be a three-day event. For
the past four years, the Warpstock organizers have tried to squeeze over two dozen
presentations into a weekend. Unfortunately, this tight schedule meant that an OS/2
enthusiast was often unable to attend all the presentations he wanted. This year,
some presentations will be repeated throughout the three-day event to allow attendees
to see more presentations than before. The Toronto site was chosen this year for a variety of excellent reasons. The
Toronto team presented a well-planned bid and should do a stellar job with all of
the arrangements for the conference, partly because there is an active OS/2 community
in Toronto. The Warpstock Committee also feels that Canada will be a nice change of pace,
and Toronto is one of the most interesting of Canadian cities. After New York and
London, Toronto has the largest concentration of live theater in the world. With
eighty ethnic nationalities, Toronto is also the most multi-cultural city in world.
There are also over 5,000 restaurants and over forty other major visitor attractions.
r> Finally, the exchange rate for the Candian dollar should remain favorable throughout
the year, thereby allowing attendees and vendors significant savings compared to
previous years. The Warpstock Committee and the Toronto Warpstock Team are looking forward to
making Warpstock 2001 the best OS/2 conference ever! Warpstock 2001 will be held in the Holiday Inn Select Toronto Airport hotel,
which is one mile from the airport. As with all prior conferences, the hotel contract
offers significant cost reductions if enough attendees stay at the hotel during
the conference. In other words, staying at the Holiday Inn is not only very convenient
for you, but it also supports Warpstock 2001 and makes more money available for
other things, including Warpstock 2002. The rate for single or double occupancy is $104.95 Canadian, which is approximately
$70 US. This makes the hotel about half as expensive as last year. The rate is available
from October 2 to October 11, allowing you to make Warpstock 2001 part of a week-long
vacation. This rate is guaranteed if the reservation is made before September 17,
2001, and if you use the rate code "Warpstock" (or "Warpstock 2001").
You can make your reservation in one of three ways: Calling either 416-674-4340 or 1-800-HOLIDAY. Mention the rate code to the salesperson.
Using the online reservation system at http://www.toronto.com/E/V/TORON/0020/15/70/onlinereservation.html
. Specify the rate code in the area labelled "Special Requests or Questions".
Sending an e-mail to cdn-reservation@bristolhotels.com.
Mention the rate code in the e-mail. More information about the hotel can be found at http://www.toronto.com/E/V/TORON/0020/15/70/1.html,
but here are some highlights: The Holiday Inn Select Toronto Airport is located 1.5 km (1 mile) east of the
Pearson International Airport, Toronto. A complimentary shuttle service from the
airport to the hotel is available. This service runs every 15 minutes. Parking is
complimentary for registered hotel guests. Registered guests will receive a voucher
for parking. For other Warpstock attendees, parking will be $5 per day by showing
their Warpstock 2001 registration badge. The Holiday Inn Select Toronto Airport
features 11 floors with 445 guest rooms. Each guest room has two phones, voice mail,
data ports, remote-controlled cable television, in-room movies, coffee-maker, hairdryers,
ironing boards and irons, work desk with lamp. For a map, visit the hotel's website
and click on "Map". There is an ATM (Automatic Teller Machine) in the
lobby for anyone needing to access money. The front desk will also exchange currency
should that be needed. The hotel accepts payment in any of the following forms:
American Express, Cash, Debit Card, Diners Club, Discover, Gift Certificates, JCB,
MasterCard, Money Orders, Travellers Cheques, and Visa. The in-house restaurant,
the Metro Bar And Grill, is located adjacent to the meeting rooms. There are at
least 10 restaurants within 1/2 mile of the hotel. A list and map will be provided
in the registration package. The Warpstock Committee hopes that you will make your reservations at the Holiday
Inn Select Toronto Airport, since doing so will make your stay in Toronto much more
enjoyable and make future Warpstock conferences better. The 5th annual Warpstock conference will be held October 6-8, 2001, in Toronto,
Canada, and is produced by Warpstock, Inc., a North Carolina non-profit corporation.
The Warpstock annual conference is a gathering of OS/2 users and vendors from around
the world for the purpose of education and advocacy. More information is available
at the Warpstock 2001 web site: http://www.warpstock.orgor
its mirror site: http://www.ibmforum.com/warpstock/. PS: we will announce shortly when and where you will be able to purchase discounted
early bird tickets. Bids are being accepted for *2002*, ARE YOU GOING TO WARPSTOCK 2001 ? Watch for the Announcement SHORTLY...... WS2K+1 ?? Where in the North American Continent will you be? IBM has updated Java 1.18 (22.02.2001) Url: ftp://ftp.hursley.ibm.com/pub/java/fixes/os2/11/118/ Daniela Engert released DaniDASD: OS2DASD.DMD replacement with FAT32 and extendedX
partition support, V1.0.0 You can find it at: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/danidasd.zip Kind regards, Roger Troost This is very difficult for me to write, so I will come to the point. Dan Casey
has just passed away after a very short, but very serious illness. Dan has been President of VOICE for 3 years now and most recently was elected
to President of Warpstock within the past month. If that were all, he would be sorely
missed, but Dan was a lot more then just a leader of two great OS/2 oriented organizations. Dan was also one of the most helpful people in our small, close-knit community.
He helped everyone that he could, and asked for nothing in return. What always amazed
me most was that Dan wasn't an IT professional. He was a building contractor who
just happened to love computers and of course OS/2. If he didn't know the answer
he usually knew who might be able to help. He was Abraxas or DCasey on IRC. Dan
was not one to put on airs, and he always had a kind word for just about everybody. His passing is a major blow to VOICE, as he has been our strength, and the person
either leading a project or helping with it. He was the main force behind our Warp
Doctor site and our participation in the past three Warpstock events. He was deeply
involved with our decision to purchase our own server. Dan was one of the most prolific
contributors to our Newsletter. At this point I'm not sure what else to say other then I am truly stunned and
shocked at this. If anyone wants more information, all I can add at this point is
the following: He will be layed out tomorrow 2/22/01 from 4p - 8p at: The funeral will take place on Friday, February 23rd. Dan requested that any donations go to a fund for homeless children, but the
exact details are not yet available. If anyone is interested please contact me and
I will pass on the information when I find out. Mark New Version of Panda AntiVirus for OS/2 There is a new version of Panda AntiVirus for OS/2. As registered user you can

There is a new series of Feb 20th Kernels located at ftp://testcase.boulder.ibm.com/ps/fromibm/os2
- Haven't installed the Warp 4 one yet, so no idea what's changed! Regards, Paul. Moderator note: Please remember that anything from IBM's Testcase site is unsupported
unless IBM has instructed you to use it. These kernels are for testing recent updates.
Don't use them in a production environment until you are sure they are without problems.
You have been warned. Here is the readme for these new kernels as posted on comp.os.os2.bugs: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This contains fixes since xr_e002/xr_m015/mcp/acp. Important note: If you use
the OS/2 SES facility, you need a new sesdd32.sys dated 6 Feb 2001 or later to use
this kernel. Also, a new dump formatter (df_ret.exe) dtd 6 or 7 Feb 2001 is required,
if you want to analyze a dump from this kernel. Following are rough instructions for applying the os2krnl fix: In the directory
from which you boot (C:\ or d:\ or whatever), type these commands. Note that os2krnl
should have come with this file. Trace files (*.tdf) have been included. An os2krnl.sym file has been provided with this fix. Just save it somewhere (root
directory or anywhere). It is only needed in case OS/2 service requests a standalone
dump of your system in the future. HOB X-server for os/2 no longer being developed:( This is what HOBLink answered to my question about a new, updated x11 server
for os/2: "Dear Mr Dias, I thank you for being interested in our software products but I have to tell
you that there will be no further version of our product HOBLink X11 for OS/2 because
we don`t have any prospects in the OS/2 operating system. If you buy HOBLink X11
and have any problems they will be fixed, of course. Hoblink X11 is a good and established
product so you can be sure in the use of it. If you have any further questions don`t
hesitate to write me. " Now we need to wait for everblue to become usable :P Moderator's note: Everblue is the Netlabs effort to port the X-Library to the
OS/2 Presention Manager (PM). a href="http://everblue.netlabs.org/">http://everblue.netlabs.org/ I contacted HOB to ask about OS/2 and their reply confirmed the above: "Dear Mark, thank you for being interested in our products. Your information about HOBLink X11 is correct. We do not see any further future
prospects in developing products for the OS/2 operating system. But our Java products
running on OS/2, of course. HOBLink X11 will not be developed further but this does
not mean the bugs will not be fixed. This means only there will be no further Releases
with new features. You spoke about our new portal solution, this product (HOBLink
Enterprise J-Portal) includes HOBLink X11 for Windows, HOBLink JWT (RDP-Client in
Java for all OS), HOBLink TE (Terminal emulation package for windows) and HOBLink
J-Term (Terminal emulation package in Java, for all OS) and the main part: Administration
tool for "single point of admin" for all products. This is a "modular"
product so you can modulate your own package of products for your individual claims. I hope I could answer your questions. If there are any other questions occuring
please contact me under the following adress. Yours sincerely Mario Panebarco" SysInfo/2 project is updated up to ver. 0.7.12 SysInfo/2 project is updated up to ver. 0.7.12. All fixes made are dedicated

New function:
1) Support for >64m memory using int15 func e820. Note, this support is enabled
ONLY for Intel Pentium Pro or later, or non-Intel Pentium-class machines. This is
done in an effort to prevent problems on older PCs.
2) The presence of \os2\boot\os2norev.$$$ suppresses the display of internal revision
during boot.
3) Adding "EARLYMEMINIT=TRUE" to config.sys will allow device drivers,
etc., access to the memory above 16mb early in boot. Previously, this was only available
after DD and IFS init was completed. This has various implications when enabled:
a) large VDISKs are possible. I tried DEVICE=\os2\vdisk.sys 16000
b) AHA154X.ADD may do bad things to your system. Don't even ask.
c) There may be some settings of HPFS386 cache that are incompatible. This feature
is experimental.
4) Trap messages will now give the module name instead of the device name. For example,
"Exception in module: CLOCK01" instead of "Exception in Device Driver:
CLOCK$". Unfortunately, traps in linear code will still be somewhat "mysterious".
Bug Fixes:
Fixed a trap 000d in w_OpenCreate (140:4dfd or so in uni/w4 krnls, don't have regs
for SMP). This was a post mcp/acp regression Fixed strange loader i/o problems specific
to the 0111 kernel. Fixed a bootup sys31xx problem specific to the 0123 kernel.
Fixed a problem that was (I think) specific to Janauary uni ~W4 kernels which resulted
in odd ring 3 (maybe ring 0?) traps and hangs
Fixed some trap and other peculiar problems specific to the 0206 kernel. Those were
the result of a build problem.
JR15494: Delayed response of Ctrl-C or Ctrl-S (pause) in os/2 windows
JR15405: (probably) DosQueryAsyncTimer fails on timecritical thread after mscount
rolls over after 49.7 days of uptime
JR15030: TRAPDUMP QUERY doesn't show PD (needs a new trapdump.exe, too)
JR13335: Some VDMs won't run, complaining of too-long command lines
JR15194: XCOPY fails with SYS1186 or SYS1192 on (at least) MO drives
JR15038: Trap 8 in h_DeviceHelpDM running an app from a tcpbeui drive
JR15229: Files left open after ERROR_TOO_MANY_OPEN_FILES returned to app
PJ27700: SMP systems may get a trap 000e in _tkStopScan, particularly during a procdump
operation.
PJ27676: Causes hangs on some systems running UNI or W4 kernels
PJ27554: Hang or (on allstrict) trap 3 on SMP (only) during beeps
PJ27678: SMP kernels could not be RIPL-booted. As part of this, there is a new config.sys
parameter I13PAGES= available. Adding I13PAGES=1 to config.sys (note, no SET) reduces
the memory usage of the mini VDM processes used by ibm1s506.add and the GRADD drivers.
This becomes important in RIPL-boot situations. It may be helpful for UNI RIPL boot,
as well.
PJ27677: SMP systems hang with multiple threads of same process entering a critical
section (affects ADSM client)
PJ27757: Trap 000e running Theseus/4 (note, theseus4.exe may still end up with a
sys3175, but at least the system doesn't crash).
1. attrib -r -s -h os2krnl
2. attrib -r -s -h os2ldr
3. copy os2krnl os2krnl.sav
4. copy os2ldr os2ldr.sav
5. copy \os2\system\trace\*.tdf \save (or wherever)
5. unzip -o xxx.zip
If you want, you can turn the os2krnl and os2ldr attributes back on, but it's not
necessary to do so.
