Mag: OS/2 e-Zine April and May Issues

13 Apr 2004 21:50:57 -0500

From: os2editorDESPAM@yahoo.ca

To our loyal readers!

The April issue of OS/2 e-zine may be delayed, since we don't have quite
enough articles to go to press at this time.

The May issue may also be off schedule, as I will be moving 1500km away to
a new city, and I'm not sure when I'll be back on-line.

Thanks for your understanding. Don't be worried, OS/2 e-Zine isn't going
anywhere! I still have plenty of articles that need to be written! Please
keep sending me the articles though, I should still be able to receive,
edit and format.

SW: up2tbflt breaks the 502 GB dasd limit.

13 Apr 2004 19:34:43 -0500

From: Gankov on Tue, 13 Apr 2004 16:38:37 UTC
Posted on: comp.os.os2.bugs

As for the huge disks, with capacity more then 502 GB:
Here is
FLT that solves that limit. New limit is 2 Terrabytes :)

Tested with external SCSI raid with ~570 GB capacity.

"Currently OS/2 DASD subsystem doesn't support disks with capacity more
than 502 Gb. DaniS506.ADD, the great driver by Daniela Engert
( http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=danis506), may be used for
huge IDE/ATA drives to avoid 502 Gb size limitation. But there is no
solution for large SCSI RAID devices.

up2TB.flt driver allows to use in OS/2 hard disks of any types with
capacity up to 2 Terabytes (actually up to 2032 Gb). This is not real disk
controller driver, but so-called filter driver, that works with native
hardware .ADD driver. up2TB.flt simply alters CHS disk geometry
information passed to system (actually to OS2DASD.DMD) so the whole disk
capacity may be successfully used in OS/2.

Currently only non-removable HDDs are supported."

Net: Inquirer article "Structural Failures of Windows", interesting references to OS/2.

13 Apr 2004 18:21:50 -0500

From: chrisDESPAM@slave.plus.com

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=15305

The Inquirer has an interesting article entitled "The Structural Failures
of Windows".

It covers some of history back when IBM and Microsoft were working
together.

Noteable quotes from the article:-

"OS/2 was envisioned as the OS that could take advantage of multi-tasking
and multi-threading to unite the worlds of Microsoft and IBM and Intel.
This marriage didn't last very long, but it produced OS/2 which for all of
its madness, was unbelievably reliable."

Net: OS/2 Wireless Users & NetWare Users lists back up!

11 Apr 2004 13:38:51 -0500

From: lgrosenthalDESPAM@2rosenthals.com

After several months of technical difficulties, the OS/2 Wireless Users
and the OS/2 NetWare Users mailing lists hosted at 2rosenthals.com are now
back up and running. My sincere apologies to all who actively (and some
not so actively, but important nonetheless!) participate in these lists
for the extended period of downtime.

The OS/2 Wireless Users list is for discussion of wireless networking
(802.11x, IrDA, Bluetooth, etc.) and related networking protocols &
technologies (TCP/IP, IPX, routing, etc.) in an OS/2 environment (or
connectivity between OS/2 and other operating systems).

To subscribe to this list, send a message to steward@DESPAM2rosenthals.com
with the command "subscribe os2-wireless_users" in the body (omit the
quotes & obviously remove the DESPAM from the address).

Web archives of this list are available at
http://www2.2rosenthals.com:81/lists/os2-wireless_users.

The OS/2 NetWare Users list is for discussion of OS/2 clients and their
use within Novell NetWare networks. Valid topics include administering
NetWare servers from OS/2, client connectivity issues, file & print
concerns, and related Novell technologies (BorderManager, GroupWise, etc.)
and how these impact upon OS/2 clients.

To subscribe to this list, send a message to steward@DESPAM2rosenthals.com
with the command "subscribe os2-netware_users" in the body (omit the
quotes & obviously remove the DESPAM from the address).
