SW: expemu101 Explorer "Emulator" for Java programs

"This Works as a pass-thru portam that redirects EXPLORER.EXE calls to
MOZILLA.EXE (or any other browser), so Java programs that relies on
explorer.exe existence can work in OS/2. An example of such programs are
dMSN or Brazilian IRPF software. In this version it was added support for
browsers different from Mozilla."

SW: Firewire Support for OS/2 and eComStation

Today, netlabs.org, the OS/2 User Group Dresden and Alexandr Cherkaev
announce the beginning of a project that will create a Firewire driver for
OS/2.

The goal of this project is to write an open source OS/2 IEEE 1394, or
short Firewire, controller driver and mass storage layer. The initial
version of the driver will support PCI attached Firewire controllers build
around the VIA Technologies Inc. VT6306 chipset. A hard drive connected
via a Firewire case will be supported by the sbp2 protocol. It is our
intention to deliver a first version of the driver before July 2004!

This project would not exist without Netlabs! If you want to support the
Firewire driver please consider sponsoring Netlabs!

Changes in this release (from 3.2)

o Integration of Florian's Generic Call Interface (GCI) into Regina.
Supported platforms to date are Windows, OS/2 and Linux.
o Fixed bug with TRACE F and its "conversion" into "N" on a subsequent
call
to TRACE BIF.
o Addition of Polish native language support courtesy of Bartosz
Kozlowski.
o PARSE LOWER and PARSE CASELESS added.
o Major changes to EXIT handling
o Regina determines internal and external queues by the fact that
external
queues MUST have a '@' in the name. Therefore any time a queue name is
used; in RXQUEUE or ADDRESS...WITH, then if the queue name has a '@'
then Regina treats this as an external queue, and requires the RXSTACK
server to be running.
o New BIF POOLID. Allows the current variable pool number to be obtained
(effectively the level of called subroutines).
o VALUE BIF allows environment to be a number corresponding to a variable
pool number. Therefore unEXPOSEd variables in any subroutine can be
accessed.
o API functions Rexx*Dll() now implemented.
o Locale support for BIFs like TRANSLATE now supported, and can be
overridden
from command line. (-l switch)
o Algorithm for determining where a Rexx program is (either from command
line, or
a CALL statement called. Apart from a change in the precedence of
directories
an environment variable REGINA_SUFFIXES is used to supplement the file
extensions
that Regina uses to append to the passed file name. More details can be
found in the
Regina documentation.
o Regina OPTIONS can now be specified as an environment variable, which
will set the
default values for OPTIONS. The OPTIONS instruction can still be used
and will
override the defaults.
o A new OPTION has been added; CALLS_AS_FUNCS to allow programs that use
the non-ANSI
format of "CALL label(arg1,arg2)". Although this is implemented as an
OPTION, it can
only be set via the REGINA_OPTIONS environment variable!
o Another new OPTION; QUEUES_301 to duplicate the behaviour of Regina
queues; both
internal and external.
o Some memory leak fixes with INTERPRET and some "handle leaks" under
Windows fixed.
o Initial support for SkyOS
o Fixed some old bugs: (documented in BUGS file)

SW: SDL for OS/2 and eCS

Doodle ported libsdl to OS/2 and eCS, the code is based on the version
1.2.6.

The following things are missing from this SDL implementation:
- CD-ROM
- Joystick
- Any kind of hardware acceleration or optimization
- Window Manager messages

About SDL:

Simple DirectMedia Layer is a cross-platform multimedia library designed
to provide low level access to audio, keyboard, mouse, joystick, 3D
hardware via OpenGL, and 2D video framebuffer. It is used by MPEG playback
software, emulators, and many popular games, including the award winning
Linux port of "Civilization: Call To Power."

This library is not really used yet on OS/2 but this should eliminate the
chicken/egg problem at least ;)

The future of the port depends on the need for it so you are welcome to
port games and other things based on libsdl to OS/2 and eCS. Check the
project homepage for more ideas:

Any patches, enhancements or questions regarding the OS/2 port (and just
such questions!) can be sent to "doodle a t scenergy.dfmk.hu"

Compiler used for this port: OpenWatcom, but GCC should probably work as
well with some minor changes of the original makefiles (patches are
welcome).

SW: Samba Client beta 2 for OS/2 and eCS

nickk finished the second beta of Samba Client for OS/2 and eCS. There
are several bugfixes in the new relase and we kindly ask you to test this
release further.

Please report bugs to the Samba XTracker at netlabs.org and provide a
logfile (see readme) for more details for debugging.
