The OS2-ISP list has been revived!
Dear Sir/Madam,
Hello!
The OS2-ISP list previously hosted at hethmon.com has been down
for well over a month or two, with no signs of it coming back up
any time soon.
This email is simply an attempt to notify people who have used
this list in the past, that I have recreated it and that they
need to resubscribe to it.
I have taken all email addresses that I could find in the 8395
messages from this list for the past three years, so I do apoligise
if this email reaches you by mistake; you will not be contacted
by me on this issue again, so it you wish not to subscribe to this
list, then you simply do nothing.
If however, you do want to resubscribe to this valuable resource,
then please send an email message to steward@warpspeed.com.au with the line 'subscribe os2-isp' in the message body.

VGFX graphic library-Demo MATRIX/2
Posted on comp.os.os2.games
Well, to generate some traffic: i have just uploaded a little program to
my homepage. Well it is no game, and there's little reason to run besides
just viewing ;-). It is a demo of a library i'm currently working on,
well a gaming library, so i think the place might be right. If you ever
wanted to see some kind of MATRIX scrolling on OS/2 go there and get it:
http://www.ffohttop.de/VGFXMatrix.html
It would be nice to hear from someone else how fast it is and if problems
occur. On my K2/6-500 it runs about 33fps, drawing 630 sprites and
restoring one backgound each frame (640x480). How does it perform on
recent hardware? Be warned, your CPU might go up to 100%! Exit with ESC!
Regards, Michael

Tim's Warped Bargains: Correction, DSL, 15" LCD, Used PC, Sound Cards
Dear Bargain Hunters:
** IBM Laser Printer Correction **
Some of you started panting and rushing to the IBM web site when I
mentioned per-page toner costs of 0.022 cents for that new IBM Infoprint
1312 laser printer.
Sorry! That's 2.2 cents per page. I was decimal point impaired when I
wrote that. Still pretty good, though. Just not THAT good.
That would be U.S. 0.022 dollars per page, if you prefer. Or 22% of one
dime. Or 88 one thousandths of one quarter.
By the way, I'm authorized to announce a special deal. If you order two
IBM Infoprint Color 130 enterprise printers, today only we'll give you a
free Infoprint 1312 printer with a retail value of $289. That like
getting 289 dollars off our already low priced $1.1 million (and up) pair
of enterprise printers -- a real savings to you and your family.
Shipping and handling not included. Offer may expire without notice or on
April 1, 2003, whichever comes sooner. Other terms and conditions may
apply. See store for details. Offer not valid where prohibited by law.
Free printer may be demonstrator model low on toner. Free printer offer
requires submitting social security number for FBI background check and
full medical history.
** Cheap DSL **
To redeem myself, I have many other bargains to pass along.
For example, if you subscribe to Verizon DSL service, you can get wireless
(802.11b "WiFi") service at no extra charge (New York City area only).
Find out more here:
For everyone anywhere in their service territory, Verizon DSL is only
$34.95 per month, and they're offering one month free and a free gift
(such as a $25 MasterCard gift card). See my article in next month's
issue of the VOICE newsletter for details on DSL connectivity with
eComStation and OS/2 Warp. (Hint: It works just fine.)
If you buy your DSL service through Dell, you can get another $80 rebate.
Go here to do that:
and if you click through to Dell from Fatcash.com, you may get another 3%
off. (Not sure about that one, but it can't hurt.)
** 15 Inch TFT Flat Panel Display **
Here's a great deal on a flat panel LCD display for your PC.
http://shop2.outpost.com/product/3436193
Only $199 after rebate. Offer expires May 20, 2003. Runs with any video
adapter that can generate 1024x768 through a VGA-style (standard D-shell)
connector. Which is just about anything, really. I'd stick to 16-bit
color since 24-bit is mostly wasted on a TFT display.
** Used Dell PC **
PowerON has refurbished Dell Optiplex GX1 Pentium II MMX (450 MHz) desktop
PCs for only $69.99 each. (Please confirm the model.) These systems
feature 128 MB of RAM (expandable to 384 MB), 6 GB hard disk, CD-ROM
drive, diskette drive, and ethernet (3Com 3C905B-TX -- yes, there's a
driver). Includes 90-day warranty. Level 2 cache is a generous 512K.
Audio is Crystal CS4236 (driver available) and video is ATI Rage Pro
(works with Scitech and Scitech Special Edition drivers). All these
drivers are already in eComStation. Lots of ports, too: two USB, two
serial, and one parallel.
Phone 800-673-6227 to order.
What more do you really need for Internet access with Mozilla?
** Sound Cards **
Here are some inexpensive (under $10) PCI sound cards that work with your
favorite operating system. Use the new Univeral Audio Driver that comes
with eComStation.
Crystal CS4281: http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=20102 C-Media
CMI8738: http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=A-8738-6C Crystal
CS4280: http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=A-4280
Driver available from Crystal (Cirrus) directly for the last one (http://www.cirrus.com/en/support/drivers/audio/OS22.html). Don't forget
to use coupon code DEALNEWS for a (possible) 10% discount.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with any of these companies. Except IBM,
and I heartily endorse every one of their products.

Soundcard Matrix Site updated
There are changes on the PCI Soundcard Matrix Site:
New entry on the matrix:
- SB Audigy/Audigy2 / EMU10K2 chipset
I got some reports that the new line of Audigy cards from Creative is
working with the latest free uniaudio driver. Because both Audigy and
Audigy2 cards using nearly the same chipset like the SB Live! there should
be no problem getting these cards to work. Please send any experiences
with these new cards/drivers to me ! Thanks.

Tim's Warped Bargains: New IBM Laser Printer
Dear Bargain Hunters:
I finally get to pass along news of a hardware bargain from my employer!
IBM just introduced the Infoprint 1312 laser printer. This new printer is
designed like all IBM models as a true workhorse, with a rated speed of 20
pages per minute. It has a native resolution of 600 dpi (with "1200 dpi
enhancement"), so the quality is great. And the per-page cost is as low as
0.022 cents (toner costs). It is not a duplexing printer, though. PCL 6,
Postscript 3, and PPDS printer data streams are all supported, so it'll
work great with your eComStation and OS/2 Warp systems. Includes both USB
and parallel ports.
All yours for $289 direct from IBM's web site ( http://www.printers.ibm.com ). Not the lowest priced laser printer I've
mentioned, but the consumables cost is very low, and it is a speedy
machine.
Now, if that's not fast enough, you could always spring for the IBM
Infoprint Color 130 enterprise printer. We'll return your phone call if
you have a half million dollars to spend on that serious equipment. It's
the sort of printer that accepts raw logs at one end and spits out glossy
Vogue magazines at the other, complete with perfume samples. (OK, I'm
exaggerating a little, but it does manage up to 138 color impressions per
minute. That HP LaserJet 2500L I mentioned before is only 35 times
slower.)
And, before you ask, yes, the Infoprint Color 130 should work fine with
eComStation. Your PC, however, may not be able to feed it fast enough, so
we require an AIX server or mainframe to do that (and to process the
Postscript from your PC). Naturally the AIX server or mainframe costs
extra. Price also does not include the reinforced floor you'll need to
support the 3,000+ pounds this printer weighs, nor does it include the
mandatory 240 volt power circuit (like your electric clothes dryer) or
climate control system. Supplies extra, too, although we might throw in
enough paper to run for 30 seconds, but only if you order today.
This mega-printer takes "Toner version 3," would you believe. Even the
toner gets a version number.
Mozilla v1.4b release VACPP and GCC
VACPP builds:
Spellchecker is included, and the Innotek Java plugin should work with
this version.
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.4b/mozilla-os2-vacpp-1.4b-installer.exe
or
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.4b/mozilla-os2-vacpp-1.4b.zip
GCC builds:
We also have released GCC versions of 1.4b - Full Installer .exe and a
Zipfile. To use it, you must also download a copy of the GCC 3.2.1 runtime
which is available from Innotek as well as the current level of the EMX
runtime from hobbes.
Note:DO NOT SHARE PROFILES BETWEEN VACPP AND GCC!
Also, plugins do not work in this release. We are investigating the
problem.
