eComStation BootCD for public testing
eComStation BootCD Testtrack
Hard work is being done on the next release of eComStation, eCS 1.1. One
of the things where big changes are being put in place is the bootprocess.
The new system that has been developed creates a RAM drive before
eComStation starts. Then 2 diskette images are unpacked to the RAM drive.
You will get a preboot menu (multipage) in which you will be able to
select the required drivers for your system to boot.
You can also load a driver from a diskette that is copied to the RAM drive
with which you will be able to boot eCS. This will mean that if your
system supports booting from CD you should in most cases have no need to
create bootdiskettes anymore. This new boot system requires testing by a
big group of users.
When booted from CD you will get a pmshell (blue background) with a
command line. You need to have at least 32 MB of ram in your computer for
this CD to work.
You can use the CD on any system since it will not write data to harddisk.
Please note only registered eComStation users will be able to download
this track (its about 10 MB in size).
To get it, please login at http://www.ecomstatino.com/ and login with your userid
and password as usual.
Two other options that require testing are MiniLVM and a new PMFormat. Its
strongly advised that you are careful with these tools since they can
erase or corrupt the data on your harddrive. So booting from CD is
harmless, however be careful with these tools. The tools can be found in
\ecs\install on the boot CD.
Please do NOT send bug reports to us via email. We have put a web frontend
where you can report any problems you have encountered. To access this,
please login to http://www.ecomstatino.com/ and select the BugTracker menu option.
When filing a report to the BugTracker, please take note of the guidelines
in the accompanying project documentation. You may want to print that
information for reference.
Thank you all for your cooperation

Ogg Vorbis version 1.0
Brian Havard has released a new build of Ogg Vorbis ! Ogg Vorbis version
1.0 (encoder, player, tools, PM123 plug-in) is a general purpose audio
and music encoding format, contemporary to MPEG-4's AAC and TwinVQ, the
next generation beyond
MPEG audio layer 3. Unlike the MPEG sponsored formats, the Vorbis CODEC
specification belongs to the public domain !
From Timo Maier: "Ogg Vorbis is an audio compression format similar to MP3
but free of patented algorithms and fully open source. This is now release
quality code with good sound quality and speed. On my Athlon 1200, decode
speed is 45 times real time and encoding time using oggenc is around 6.5
times real time time. This means that playback uses around 2.2% CPU and a
5 minute song takes less than a minute to compress."
Requires: EMX 09d FIX 3, sound card driver supporting DART
