and call NTP servers.

I'm pleased to announce the release of Remote Workplace Server.

RWS enables a program to invoke any class or object method or any SOM
function in the WPS process without the use of SOM or DSOM. All types of
arguments and return values are supported. Data that is accessible or
meaningful only in the WPS process (e.g. a buffer or object pointer) can
be copied or converted to make it available to the calling process.

On input, objects can be referenced by name, handle, container record, or
hwnd. On output, object pointers can be converted to any of these, or to
a title, path, icon, and more. RWS's object conversion features can be
invoked independently of any method call using RwsConvert. Multiple
objects can be converted from one type of external reference to another in
a single call (e.g. from object handle to title, or from object ID to
icon).

RWS is an open-source project licensed under the generous terms of the
Mozilla Public License. The developer's package, rws050.zip, contains
ready-to-use server & client dlls, complete source code, extensive
documentation, and two demo programs. One of these, "Iconomize" is a
unique ini-maintenance tool that can reduce the size of your os2.ini by
10-25%. You can obtain the package from:

Currently, it is also available from hobbes in the /pub/incoming

RWS is still in its initial stages of development. Suggestions for its

Event: Misunderstanding About Hotel Upgrades for Warpstock 2004

Warpstock 2004 organzers have just recently learned that there was a
misunderstanding about the price for upgrading to a room on the 9th or
10th floors at the Sheraton Denver Tech Center Hotel. We have been
advertising the upgrade as $15 per night, when in fact it is $30. An
atrium room on the top floor is an additional $10. We apologize for
distributing information with the wrong prices.

Now, the good news. The hotel has offered five upgrades to Warpstock 2004
attendees at the $15/$10 price on a first come, first served basis. To get
that price you need to contact Joshua Garcia at the hotel either by email
(joshua.garciaDESPAM@starwoodhotels.com) or phone (303)874-6140.

What does a $30 upgrade get you? Upgraded rooms have goose down
comforters, robes and a copy/fax/printer. You'll also be able to graze a
hot breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes, fruit, bagels/toast and
cereal/juice) in the 9th floor lounge, and snacks and cocktails from 5:30
to 7:30 in the evening.

In the course of sorting out the upgrade information, we also heard that
the hotel will be full during the four days that Warpstock takes place.
This means that when the special Warpstock group rate ends on September
30th, you may pay the hotel's regular room rate, which is $179 a night.
So, if you're planning on coming to Warpstock 2004, make your hotel
reservations now, and make sure you tell them you're attending Warpstock.

In a recent column, John D. makes a list of the 10 Worst Software
Disasters. OS/2 is right between Framework's total screwup with the
update to dBase-II, and VisiOn a total vaporware product that he says
forced the preannouncement of Windows.

Worse, there's nothing from anyone in the replies (since I read them a day
or so ago) saying that the OS is not dead.


Warpstock will send him a press pass.....

RATIONALE: comp.os.os2.ecomstation

The newsgroup 'comp.os.os2.ecomstation' would be a forum for
discussing issues related to the use of the eComStation operating system,
a licensed version of IBM's OS/2 from Serenity Systems Intl.

Currently, the comp.os.os2.* newsgroups are used as a resource for asking
and answering questions regarding all OS/2 versions, including
eComStation. OS/2 is the major operating system upon which eComStation is
based, however eComStation has gained sufficient interest to support its
own newsgroup.

In addition, the general audience for questions regarding eComStation and
Serenity Systems differ from the audience interested in general IBM OS/2
questions. Therefore, it seems appropriate for eComStation to gain its
own newsgroup for eComStation-specific questions.

While several unmoderated online fora dedicated to eComStation do exist
and have a large amount of traffic, experience shows that the lack of a
unified forum hampers the development of a decent discussion.

The only other unmoderated newsgroups that offers some room for such
discussions today are in comp.os.os2.*. However, eComStation differs
significantly enough from the base OS/2 that discussions regarding it may
not be relevant at all to the general OS/2 user. Discussions involving
eComStation have comprised a significant portion of the traffic in the
comp.os.os2 hierarchy to the point where it may be distracting for the
eComStation user and general OS/2 user alike.

The separation of eComStation issues from general comp.os.os2.* topics
will hence avoid user confusion and avoid disagreement on the general
relevance of eComStation in relation to OS/2 which was felt to be
unsatisfactory by all parties.

CHARTER: comp.os.os2.ecomstation

comp.os.os2.ecomstation is an unmoderated newsgroup for discussion of the
eComStation operating system and related technologies.

Appropriate discussion in the group will involve eComStation and other
eComStation-related products (including Serenity Virtual Station.) Some
examples of topics that should be posted to
comp.os.os2.ecomstation:

- General questions regarding the installation and operation of
eComStation
- Questions regarding eComStation specific programming
- Discussion of eComStation related technologies
- Questions regarding application software and hardware support -

OS/2 port of the SQLite v2.8.15 embedded SQL database library.

"SQLite is an embedded SQL database engine implented in a library. The
database is stored in a single file, and multiuser/multiprocess access is
supported via file locking of the database file.

While the EMX toolchain was used to build this port, the DLL containing
the SQLite library is a standalone DLL with no dependancy on the EMX
runtime or C library."
