Philadelphia OS/2 UG Mtg: Wed, Sep 26th
The Philadelphia OS/2 User Group invites all interested computer users to
attend the September monthly meeting:
. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2001 7:00 - 10:00 PM
. The Episcopal Academy, 376 N. Latches Lane, Merion, PA
*** SEPTEMBER 26th FEATURE PRESENTATION ***
-- eComStation Installation & Demonstration --
At the August meeting, installation of IBM's Merlin Convenience Pack (MCP)
was demonstrated and discussed. The September meeting will follow up with
the other new OS/2 Warp update: eComStation (eCS) from Serenity Systems.
Our PhillyOS2 Webmaster, John Davey, recently installed the eCS GA
release, and will demonstrate an eCS installation and its principal
features.
eComStation is a managed client platform built on the OS/2 Warp
foundation. The eCS package includes the features of MCP within the
framework of a refined installation routine. eCS also brings several new
features to the OS/2 user such as LVM & JFS (also included in MCP), and an
option for symmetric multi-processing (SMP). eCS also includes Serenity
Systems' Wise Manager for the installation of applications, as well as
many new OS/2 platform developments such as Odin, Dani's drivers, SciTech
Display Doctor, Lotus SmartSuite 1.6, and more.
We will have a system with eCS already installed to demonstrate its
features. And we will also demonstrate the quick and painless process of
installing ECS. Vadim Kavalerov will contribute his expertise on using
Logical Volume Manager, which ECS uses in lieu of FDISK to organize hard
drives.
A special invitation is extended to any other OS/2 users who have
installed the new eCS GA release to come to this meeting and share your
experiences with our members.
Other agenda items, as time permits, include U/G business items, OS/2
news, Q&A session, new releases and raffles. The usual free refreshments
will also be available.
Mark the date and time: Wednesday, September 26th, at 7:00pm. OS/2
meetings are open and free for OS/2 users, their guests and others
interested in learning about OS/2 and associated technologies. We have a
very full agenda, so also please try to be on time promptly by 7:00pm.
