Sane 1.0.9 & XSane 0.89
Franz Bakan has released Sane 1.0.9 and Xsane 0.89
S(canner) A(ccess) N(ow) E(asy) is an application programming interface
(API) that provides standardized access to any raster image scanner
hardware (flatbed scanner, hand-held scanner, video- and still-cameras,
frame-grabbers, etc.). The SANE API is public domain and its discussion
and development is open to everybody. The current source code is written
for UNIX (including GNU/Linux) and is available under the GNU General
Public License (the SANE API is available to proprietary applications and
backends as well, however).
Sane 1.0.9 and XSane 0.89 are available at:
http://home.tiscalinet.de/fbakan
also

has been updated. Please check/comment.

don't read readmes ;-)

JAlbum 2.5
JAlbum 2.5 has been released
JAlbum is a tool to help you getting your photos on the web
JAlbum runs on all major operating systems (Windows, Unix, Linux and Mac
OS X). On the JAlbum download page you will find installers for your
operating system. JAlbum is a 100% Java program and requires the Java
Runtime 1.3 to be installed.
Release history
2002-10-24 2.5
News:
* FTP upload support Added with \"smart upload\" that attempts to only
upload changed files. Although this is not the central task of JAlbum,
I\'ve added it for convenience
Bug fixes:
* Printing all variables with a <%= current %> expression within a
skin caused an infinite recursive loop
* Didn\'t match a skin with it\'s available styles upon loading of a
project (introduced in 2.4.1)
2002-10-23 2.4.1
News:
* Skins can now contain layout hints if they are intended to be used
with a certain image size etc. Layout hints is simply a subset of a JAlbum
project file named hints.jap which resides in a skin directory
Bug fix:
* All EXIF variables were stored as String objects even if another
object type would have been more suitable (e.g. Boolean for camera flash
setting or Float for aperture value)
2002-10-22 2.4
News:
* Simplified scripting of skins with JSP/ASP like <% scriptlet syntax
%>, and implicit objects (out, album, application etc)
* Even more web-friendly: Does a better job avoiding creation of
absolute links (file://C:...) even if original images point to other
locations in the file system than the output directory
* Tries to skip erronous image files and resume operation instead of
halting. Will display an error log in case of errors
* New ja:include element to allow simple page inclusion
* New ja:ignore element to pass scriptlets to JSP/ASP engines for
processing
* Improved ja:if element allowing arbitrary expressions to be tested
* Style sheet files are now parsed in the same manner as template
files
* Added new variables \"isoEquivalent\", \"currentRows\", and
\"indexImageCount\"
* Two new skins, \"Colorful\" and \"Bluepro\" added
There are also a number of cool new features that are simply implemented
as scripts inside the \"standard\" skin. To have these features on other
skins, just copy and paste the scriptlets inside the standard skin:
* JAlbum now adds image comments from external text files carrying the
same base name as the image files themselves (unless an embedded comment
is already found)
* Users can now pick desired background and text colors of an album by
simply selecting the AskUser.css skin
* Put a header.inc or footer.inc file in the image directory and it\'s
contents will be included on the index page(s)
Bug fixes:
* Would stop with an \"ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException\" for images
containing an empty EXIF block
* Minor fixes to skins
Known bugs:
* Line numbers are not always reported correctly for scripting errors

DragText v3.7
Do you ever find drag and drop to be clumsy and inconvenient? Do you ever
wonder if the OS/2 UI is still capable of innovation? Do you ever wish for
something to show off to the Mac & Win crowd?
If you answered yes to any of the above, you'll want to try the new
release of DragText. v3.7 redefines the ergonomics of d&d with OverDrag,
the most comprehensive set of while-you-drag
features found on any platform.
Now, whenever you use DT or the WPS to drag text or objects,
you can click a button or press a key to:
- open folders
- locate objects
- scroll windows
- minimize & restore
- switch virtual desktops
- and more...
After the drag is over, DragText will even clean up after itself.
Of course, DragText continues to offer all its other features:
- drag & drop text, file, and URL handling
- unparalleled WPS-integration features
- DTProgram, a versatile program object replacement

Update: Phoenix 0.3 (Lucia) web browser
> http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/phoenix/releases/0.3/phoenix-0.3-os2.zip
That version is broken. It needs the IBM runtime library CPPRMI36,DLL, but
that file is named MOZRMI36.DLL.
Search for cpprmi36 and replace it with mozrmi36.
I have reported the bug on bugzilla, so a fixed version should soon be
released.

Update: New McAfee VirusScan for OS/2
I've been a McAfee user for the last 3 years or more. This news (about
the 4.1.60 engine) is not really new, since the 4160 engine for OS/2 was
first released 12/01. I've been using it since then. So far as I'm
aware, it was never really announced though, so you had to stumble across
the right section of their website to know this. But, I read through
their "End of Product Life" statement quite some time ago, and it does
contain some news. According to that, the 4180 engine will be the last
one for OS/2. If they follow past practice, I would expect to see it
around 12/02. When it comes out, all interested parties should grab it.
NAI product updates for other platforms require a recent purchase of the
prior version, or a support contract (subscription). The fact that the
OS/2 engine updates -- from v. 4130 on -- have apparently been exceptions
to this and were there for the taking, must indicate that NAI has
essentially written off their OS/2 product.

New McAfee VirusScan for OS/2
Hi
I found the Mcafee has release the a 32-bit pm scanner that uses the
4.1.60 engine (which is the same as the windows version). Once you update
the dat files to the latest ones, you have a great virus scanner from
McAfee that finds all the new viruses.

WWMastermind 2D v.1.01
The version 1.01 of the Mastermind game WWMastermind 2D has been
published. The program is freeware.
WWMastermind 2D is based on the classic idea of finding a combination of
colors. In this case the colors are distributed in a plane (2
dimensional) rather than in a line (1 dimensional). Changes in the version
1.01 since the last version 1.0:
- new \'Result\' dialog which is always shown at the end of a finished (or
canceled) game,
- bugfix: last possible try could not be evaluated ->
error message that all sticks must be set (Thanks to Mark A. for
reporting this bug!),
- bugfix: evaluation of \'Line OK\' was sometimes false for arrangement
\'Square 2 - big\'. Currently, the program is available only in english.

Bootable 2.12
Hajo Baan has released Bootable 2.12 a script to creata bootable
Partitions/cd's ...
New v2.12 (20/10/2002)
* Added NETBIOS and NETBIOS over TCP/IP protocol support (NETBIOS and
NETBIOSTCPIP, disabled by default);
Note: Only the protocols themselves are supported, PEER functionality,
for instance, is not provided.
* Added option to clean-out cdrecord image directory (pointed to by
WRITERDRIVE) prior to adding bootable files and directories
(CDRECORDCLEANDIR, disabled by default);
* Added option to support latest IBM Atapi driver which doesn't need
IBMIDECD.FLT anymore (LATESTATAPI, disabled by default); * Made many
changes to TCP/IP support:
o Added ARP.EXE by default,
o Added INETWAIT.EXE to the TCP/IP initialisation,
o Corrected TCP/IP initialisation when using DHCP,
o Now using AFLEAN.SYS and SOCKETS.SYS instead of AFINETK.SYS and
SOCKETSK.SYS,
o AFOS2.SYS has been removed (was not required for basic TCP/IP),
o Improved DHCP support; nameserver can now also be specified by the
server dynamically (requires RAMDISK support on a bootAble CD),
o DHCP Client Monitor gets added when DHCP is enabled (WPS),
o Improved TCP/IP version 4.31 support; the 4.31 DHCP client
required some additional DLLs, these will now be added when TCP/IP 4.31
is specified (TCPIP431, default).
* Additional DEVICE drivers can now be specified similar to how extra
BASEDEV drivers were specified (EXTRADEVICE, EXTRADEVICEFILE.n,
EXTRADEVICEOPTIONS.n).
* You can now specify multi-level directory
structures without having to create the higher level directories first
(EXTRADIRECTORY.n), you can now also specify the BOOKSHELF as path
(EXTRADIRECTORYADDTOPATH.n);
* You can now comment-out lines in the configuration files and ini-file
template with ';' as well;
* Corrected bug with ASPI support;
* Options of CDROM and ASPI support are now respected;
* Added sample configuration file for adding EMX runtime (bootAble.emxrt,
contributed by Christoph Brendes)
* Improved parsing of ini-file
templates: using '$$' as variable and '%%' as option delimeters,
furthermore all configuration variables and options can now be used;
* Removed second setting of displaytype and help-path when WPS support was
enabled;
* Rewrote installation instructions and merged with obtaining

OK, I have the fix, but I haven't uploaded the full install yet.
For those that already have the broke installer there is an easy
workaround.
run the installer with /u to unpack the files.
Get a new SETUPRSC.DLL from
http://www.kaply.com/work/setuprsc.dll
Replace the one that is in the directory where you unpacked.
Run SETUP.EXE
I'll be replacing the entire installer in a few minutes.
I'm REALLY sorry for the hassle.
I'm going to add to our process temporarily renaming the compiler
directory to prevent anything like this from happening again.
Thanks for your understanding.

[Moderator's note: If you downloaded the mozilla-os2-1.2b-installer.exe
file yesterday and had the above error, you might want to redownload the
file, or use the workaround suggested by Mike above. The first time I
downloaded it I had the problem, when I downloaded it again later on
Saturday, the install worked for me.
