news.consultron.ca news

Ok, I have news.

Finally:)

I've gotten a new feed. This has ended up necessitating completely replacing all of the public groups, to ensure a good sync with the public usenet feed.

If some posts may have vanished due to this, sorry, but there's not much I can do about it now.

Because of the vast number of drive by spammings of the server, it will no longer be open for posting. Instead, if you want to post, you're going to need to get a userid and password from me. Reading will continue to be allowed to one and all, but posting will require authentication. Note, however, that I'm not going to charge for the privelege of posting, and I have no intention of doing so. Of course, on the gripping hand, posting to this server is completely at my whim... but in general I think I'm a reasonable guy, so I don't anticipate a lot of problems.

If you want to get a uid/pwd combo, I'm going to need some basic information, such as:

Name
Email
City/Province/Country

I will not accept registrations from emails in the hotmail.com, yahoo.com, etc domains; if you want to get a userid, I'm going to have to have a real address, not a throwaway web address.

To get a uid, please send a message to support@consultron.ca with the subject line "News Server User Request", including the information listed above.

Any uid that is caught spamming will be terminated immediately, without appeal or recourse, and absolutely without remorse. Depending on the nature of the spam, I may pass any relevant information about it to the user's provider, all the way on up to any relevant law enforcement authorities, including such institutions as SEC in case of stock manipulation, as well as more traditional law enforcement authorities for other more mundane nasty activities.

Anyway, the server's basically back up and running. Please feel free to enjoy!
Regards,
Jack
