Java applications reported to work with IBM Java 1.1.8 and 1.3.1 for OS/2 and eComStation
Hi,
Two weeks ago I posted a message in the Usenet newsgroups comp.os.os2.apps
and ecomstation.apps, about java applications that run well in IBM Java
1.1.8 or 1.3.1 on my system. I was surprised by the amount of enthusiastic
reactions! I decided to add all suggestions to my list and make it
available on a webpage. It now contains well over 50 java applications
(and some applets) sorted in categories with a short description and url.
It's called 'OS/2 Java Corner' and the url is:

Please feel free to send me your additions, corrections or other comments!
Kind regards,

F file manager version 4.71 beta released
On November 5th, Duy Nguyen and Michel Normand have released version 4.71
beta of F, the \"Swiss army knive\" of file managers. F is a freeware
text-mode multi-platform application. Supported operating systems are
OS/2, AIX, BSD, Linux, and Win32 (no Unix version of this beta until now).
F is not only a very configurable file manager, but also offers an FTP/FXP
client, an editor with syntax-highlighting, numerous tools for developers,
simple e-mail and news clients, as well as small HTTP and FTP servers. F
comes with its own FFP (F to F protocol) for file transfers and remote
file execution, providing services for remote administration. Note that
the interface is keyboard-only.
This new beta version includes the following partially OS/2-related fixes:
- Copying a file with a long filename from inside a ZIP archive to a FAT
partition did not work. - When connecting to a MVS server via FTP, F was
unable to list volumes if one was an \"ARCIVE\" entry. - FTP connection to
a certain FTP server, which runs on VMS, didn\'t work.

Name Competition
Hi
By request I right now hard at work on a new program.
It's a label designer program taken from my C-Side Cd-label designer, but
for rectangular labels ;o)
I have this problem, what should I call it. I do not like L-Side or
Label/2, so this is the competition :
Send me your idea of a name for this program, and the one I use (if any)
will be awarded with a registered version of either C-Side or the new
program, winners choice.
Send me your idea of a name for this program, and the one I use (if any)
will be awarded with a registered version of either C-Side or the new
program, winners choice.
I prefere names with some form for word-play or pun (like C-Side), and the
word 'Side does' _not_ have to be a part of the name. The name should be
short, and have the right sound (cannot describe it, just trust me ;o).
You may submit all the ideas you want.
Please send your ideas before 01-Dec-2002, where I will draw a winner.
The winner will get a message from me, and I'll post the new name on this
mail-list.
Send any ideas to : kimfoder@inet.uni2.dk.
Thanks.

Selecting a new file path no longer causes an exit.
Remove prompting when unzipping updated control files.
Corrected error in determining eligibles downloads.

Caravan Application Server For OS/2
Caravan is an application server which has built-in http, smtp, ftp and
database engines. It also provides a scripting langauge, a dynamic
compiler and basic features needed to develop , test and run
applications. Caravan can parse xml documents and publish information
about its database tables in xml format. Caravan language provides a
sophisticated platform for creating applications using various objects
like files, folders queues, mail, ftp, xml and database tables. It has a
built-in search engine integerated with the database. Caravan runs on
mutli-threaded, 32bit operating systems -- OS/2, Windows98 /NT/2000 and
Linux. Caravan is available for OS/2, windows and linux --- all data and
code are compatible across the platforms supported. In effect Caravan
applications are platform independent. Caravan code is embedded in .html
files which are placed in the templates directory. Caravan is a
stand-alone system, using bare essential operating system features ,
everything being built from scratch so that it can be as independent as
possible from the OS. Caravan features and operations are identical on all
platforms. In essence caravan is like having apache, jsp/php ,oracle and
lot more in one neat package. The advantage of caravan is that it is a
powerful, integrated and platform independent solution for
internet/intranet. Caravan is written in c++ and compiled using watcom c++
10.6 for os/2. The development of Caravan is an ongoing effort, there are
still some rough edges! Note: Caravan is being made free for OS/2 users
only.
