------------------------------ WarpCast ------------------------------ Source: Loren Bandiera, http://catbert.istar.ca/os2/ Reply-to: lorenb@inforamp.net --- [10/29/97] - TCP/IP and Netscape News Timur Tabi (ttabi@crystal.cirrus.com) sent e-mail to Mike Lawrie (mlawrie@us.ibm.com) (head of PSP) asking about a free client version of TCP/IP v4.1, which was released recently but only available to people who subscribed to Software Choice (http://www.software.ibm.com/os/warp/swchoice/) Lynne More (PSP, Customer Satisfaction Management) told him: "While we realize that some customers may only want components of TCP/IP 4.1 for the client, the product was targeted for customers needing the features of TCP/IP 4.1 for their client/server environment. We are continually assessing our development investments based on customer feedback and will consider alternative packaging." >From there it broke off into basically a sales pitch for Software Choice. Not the best of news, but the most disturbing thing for I'm sure a lot of people was this quote: "IBM is integrating Java 1.1 support into the current OS/2 Netscape browser,Navigator 2.02. This refresh of the 2.02 browser will be available in early 1998, and will be a free feature on Software Choice. Netscape Version 4.0 will also include Java 1.1 integration, with planned availability as an IBM Software Choice reserved feature in 1998. Additional details will be made available on the OS/2 Warp home page at: http://www.software.ibm.com/os/warp/ So it looks like if you want Communicator you will have subscribe to Software Choice (for details on it, you can check out the October News Archive (http://catbert.istar.ca/os2/archives/oct97.html). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To subscribe, unsubscribe, or for more information on WarpCast, visit: http://www.os2ezine.com/warpcast/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------
