[WarpCast] Java: Lotus Kona - 11/04/97 |
------------------------------ WarpCast ------------------------------ Source: Loren Bandiera, http://catbert.istar.ca/os2/ Reply-to: lorenb@inforamp.net --- [11/03/97] - Lotus 'Kona' Lotus has been working on a Java suite of applications, code-named 'Kona' and today they introduced it as 'eSuite'. eSuite will ship in 1Q98, and comes in two versions. eSuite Workplace provides a desktop environment for Web browsing, terminal emulation and accessing the business components, which comprise a word processor, E-mail, spreadsheet, calendar, chart, presentation graphics and address book. eSuite DevPack provides tools for developers that want to create Java-based applications. Companies pledging to resell or distribute eSuite, formerly code-named Kona, include IBM, Sun Microsystems Inc., Oracle Corp., America Online Inc., Novell Inc. and Netscape Communications Corp. and Intel Corp. Pricing will be: single-user version of eSuite Workplace is $49, and an unlimited-user version for servers is $1,495. Now would be a good time for IBM to harp on how good OS/2's Java environment is, considering how much support this product is gathering.
