This was [told to me] during a conference call on Tuesday afternoon about Warp Server plans for the coming year. He also mentioned Java 1.1.6 is due midyear and Java 1.2 due near the end of the year. The next version of Warp Server will have a journaling file system ala AIX and have a single package for non-SMP/SMP. HPFS386 will likely be an add-on product. Lotus Go webserver will also be integrated. The whole thing [the next Warp Server] is due at the beginning of 1999. Some of this will be available on Software Choice as they become available (Java and Communicator). Communicator for OS/2 will be close to the others, it will have the email, browser, and HTML editing. It drops a few things which I guess (my opinion) come too close to Notes. Things like Netcaster and the chat facility I believe. He wasn't real certain of the exact feature list Another interesting comment came about the Netscape source code. He said it was Netscape's and they could do with it what they wanted. Netscape owns the OS/2 browser source, not IBM. One last thing was about HPFS386: evidently IBM pays Microsoft a goodly royalty for it still. When asked about including it in the client version, he asked if folks would be willing to pay for it separately and how much. So if you're interested, you now know what to request. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Paul Hethmon phethmon@hethmon.com Inet.Mail Internet Mail Server http://www.hethmon.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Author "Illustrated Guide to HTTP" http://www.browsebooks.com/Hethmon?882 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Warpstock -- Tune In! & Warp Out! -- http://www.warpstock.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To subscribe, unsubscribe, or for more information on WarpCast, visit: http://www.warpcast.com/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------
