IACT members are working toward greater freedom of choice in computer services and products, higher and more open standards, increased cross-compatibility, and better access to information and technology. ** From: Diane Gartner, dgwhiz@earthling.net Date: April 30th, 1998 Subject: New Chapters for IACT! Just a few weeks ago, I sent out an IACT announcement about our newest projects, such as the IACT "IQ" Newsletter and the forming of IACT Chapters. The success of those projects is due to the direct involvement of people from the Linux, Unix, DOS, Mac and OS/2 communities. Among our 290 members and supporters from the world over, those communities comprise the most active sectors within IACT. So it's not surprising that some of these same enterprising, involved members would take the lead in starting our *first and brand new* IACT Chapters! I am pleased to announce the premiere of not just one, but two IACT Chapters, both on the European continent, and both led by multi-platform users who represent the finest OSs around-- like the one you're using right now! ======================================== IACT-Deutschland, our Chapter in Germany ======================================== Credit for conceiving the first plans for a chapter in Europe goes to Java programmer Thorsten Leemhuis, now the Chapter director for IACT-Deutschland. He was joined by OS/2 and Linux user Leonidas Mourtsinoudis (translator/technical writer) and Team OS/2's Marcus Specht (webmaster/software engineer). They have been dedicated, resourceful and unstoppable in their efforts to build a solid and strong Chapter in their country. The IACT-Deutschland website includes German translations of our main IACT documents, the first such translations for our international organization! They will help to make IACT more accessible to all German-speaking computer users, not only in Germany but also in Switzerland, Austria and across the globe. Additionally, original articles in German will be posted at the IACT-Deutschland website, covering topics such as open standards, Java and compatibility issues. If you'd like to read about the new projects planned by IACT-Deutschland, be sure to bookmark the Chapter's address at http://www.buntspecht.de/iact/deutsch/index.html ================================= IACT-Italia, our Chapter in Italy ================================= IACT-Italia is our new Italian Chapter, in the capable hands of IACT members Andrea Resmini (the Chapter's Director/List Administrator), Paolo Rossi (Webmaster) and Stefano Sutti (Public Relations Manager). In each of their important roles and in just a few weeks, they have set a pace for technical achievement that Microsoft never could match in 1000 years even if Bill Gates were using a real operating system! :) New Web Site ------------ With the generous help of IACT member Giorgio Orsi, our IACT-Italia Chapter has built a new web site, running on OS/2 for speedier access to IACT. The Chapter website offers original materials of special interest to users, consumers and programmers in Italy as well as in Europe and the world. Materials at their website will be presented in both English and/or Italian versions as needed. Bookmark their website address now at http://www.ogcs.com/iact-italia/ New Mailing List ---------------- Through IACT-Italia, a brand new service is provided free to all IACT members as well as other users and consumers who wish to learn more about our organization. The InterACT Mailing List is an open, unmoderated list, hosted and maintained by Andrea Resmini. InterACT is designed to help our members around the world expand the IACT "network" of communication and grass-roots action, making it more beneficial and convenient to share ideas and get involved in IACT-related group projects. Non-members are encouraged to subscribe and find out more about IACT's projects. Details about subscribing to and using the InterACT list can be obtained at the IACT-Italia website!
