eMessage and HOL for OS/2 will get into beta in very near future!
=================================================================

"I think we have to begin the beta testing phase" said "Guillermo
Gisinger", chief developer for the OS/2 version of the famous
eMessage and HOL project. He is just working on the last details to
build a public beta version.

And therefore we need YOU! If you're interested in beta testing the
eMessage and HOL for OS/2, or you have an Internet server running
OS/2 and you're interested in running an HOL server, please write to
julian@wh.fh-wedel.de !

We really need an OS/2 machine with a permanent connection to the
Internet for testing the HOL server... so if you have one or you know
someone who has one, please convince him to install the HOL server!

In order to spread the eMessage idea, we need developers for Java,
Linux/Unix, Macintosh, BeOS, Amiga, Win32.. whatever platform
versions! The eMessage protocol is quite easy, and a skilled
developer could build a simple version in a single day! Support free
messaging from host to host on the Internet! Support eMessage!

What eMessage and HOL are
=========================

eMessage is designed to be a "net send" for TCP/IP networks, like the
Internet. The idea is to send a short message *directly* to another
host, without the need of any server! The goal is to make fast
messaging between any computer on the Internet -- regardless of its
operating system -- a reality.

The OS/2 version of eMessage includes a nice, fast and easy to use PM
version and a textmode version of eMessage client, and a detachable
eMessage daemon which is designed to run in the background as part of
the OS, so that the user doesn't even know it's running. With the
textmode version one can just type 'emsg some.host "this is my
message" ', and then the message is sent to the host. Fast and easy!
And with the PM version one can see all received messages, read them,
reply and send new ones, supported by a very fast and nice GUI.

As you read up to here you might think "hey, and what about all the
user with dynamic IP addresses? How can the eMessage client know
which IP a host has, if its IP changes every time?"

The new HOL (hosts online) technology solves just this problem! We
have some HOL servers on the Internet (or one server per intranet),
and every machine has a HOL client, which should be started with the
operating system. The HOL client sends a very small packet of data to
the HOL server, telling him "I'm online right now, and my hostname is
some.host!". And the HOL server remembers the client's IP and the
desired hostname. Any eMessage client which wants to send a message
to "some.host" can ask the HOL server "please tell me which IP the
host some.host has at the moment".

eMessage and HOL will be FREE. They are projects from Netlabs
(http://www.netlabs.org), the famous site for new OS/2 software
projects.
