The second beta of XPMFB is out!!! XPMFB is a full featured X Windows server that works on top of Presentation Manager thanks to the use of the DIVE routines. DIVE stands for Direct Interface Video Extensions and it's a library that allows low level access to video hardware. XPMFB uses this library to update a window where the output from any X Windows client comes out. Features ======= 0) FREE!!! 1) Runs on OS/2 up from Warp 3.0 2) Uses DIVE and rather standard PM routines. No need of fullscreen sessions. 3) Built on top of the XFreeOS/2 3.1 code with great care for compatibility. 4) Implements both *direct* and *translated* output. The *direct* output is made using low level access to video hardware and is extremely fast. The *translated* output uses some high level routines from DIVE and, at a reasonable speed, allows the server to run in ficticious modes (i.e., using 256 colors on a 65535 colors mode). 5) Easy to install. You need not mess the XFree86 installation. Requirements =========== 1) Video hardware that supports 256 colors or more. 2) XFreeOS/2 properly installed. (Look for XFreeOS/2 requirements elsewhere.) Fixed bugs ========= 1.- The server got too large when using truecolor modes. 2.- Doubled images when using DIVE translation to 8 bit color. 3.- Distorded colors in resolutions equal to or greater than 16bits color depth. 4.- Unkillable server process at exit. 5.- When using DIVE translation screen is not automatically updated. Where can I get it? =============== Today I'm uploading it to Hobbes and Leo.
