I just found some very interesting news about the Macworld in
SanFrancisco:

--snip---
QuickTime 4.0--Live Streaming
Steve Jobs will most definitely roll out QuickTime 4.0/QuickTime
Streaming. QuickTime Streaming will support unicast (a single viewer
per stream) as well as multicast (multiple viewers per stream) content,
and will also support a number of popular streaming protocols.
Streaming QuickTime media can be viewed on the client end from any
QuickTime savy application.

QuickTime media does not have to be converted into a specific
format in order to be streamed. Additionally, extremely reliable
sources report that Steve Jobs will announce that the QuickTime 4
Server will be free, ala open source, and hence will not be platform
dependent. Potentially QuickTime 4 Server will allow streaming from Mac
OS, Mac OS X Server, Linux, WindowsNT, Solaris, you name it! This is a
"Big Deal."
---snip---

This would be very good news for OS/2 users, maybe we will get a chance
to have a streaming SERVER soon!
