Hi,

on Hobbes I finally found what makes me consider my last
year's decision to buy a VIA MVP3 base socket-7 motherboard
a lot less problematic than I thought until now. The file
is called danis506.zip and contains a busmaster IDE driver
for recent VIA chipsets. By the way, it's neither been done
by IBM nor by VIA - the author, Daniela Engert, says in the
readme she was discontent with her system's performance,
and since IBM does not support it and the VIA efforts were
too buggy she decided to write her own driver. It works
well in my Tyan Trinity 100AT based machine and boosts
SysBench performance of my Seagate 9 GB disk from 6.4/6.4
MB/s cache/transfer to 21/11 MB respectively.
