The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG)
will be next Saturday, Mar. 20, at 9:00 AM PST, at the IBM offices
located in Plaza Tower, 600 Anton Blvd., Costa Mesa, on the 2nd floor.

Elections Mix with WiseManager

First, get ready to vote by reading the candidate's statements
(located at http://www.scoug.com/os24u/1999/scoug903.2.elections.html)
and listening to their speeches. That's right, along with a
presentation we'll hear from each of the candidates for SCOUG's
Board of Directors. And, of course, we'll elect our favorites.

Along with the elections, Kim Cheung of Serenity Systems
(http://www.serenity-systems.com) will astound you with his presentation
of WiseManager, a must-see application that blows away all preconceptions
about network installation and management. WiseManager is a utility
package for managing diskless PC's. All the PC's boot from the server
and operate under Warp 4 - using the same applications as they do
in regular OS/2. Most OS/2, Windows 3.1, DOS, and Java applications
can run without any modifications to the base package. You can find
out more about it by reading Kim's article about WiseManager on
the VOICE web site:

http://www.os2voice.org/VNL/past_issues/VNL0299H/vnewsf4.htm

Then it's on to Q&A, when you'll have an opportunity to get those
pesky computer problems resolved. The raffle will follow, and, last
but not least, come the Saturday SIG meetings:

General Interest Group - may look at the new Netscape release.

Programming SIG - will begin its' look at REXX as a tool with OS/2
applications. They'll start by using REXX to "glue" two applications
together. Then in a subsequent meeting, they'll look at what is
involved in adding REXX support to your own application.

Afterwards: Continue talking about the wonders of OS/2 over lunch.

Monday, Mar. 22, 7 PM PST meetings:

The Networking SIG and the OS/2 Help Desk will meet at Heritage
Christian High School in Anaheim. This month the Network SIG will
assist our new meeting location host update his classroom lab's
OS/2 Warp Connect peer network to the current fixpak level. They'll
also set-up and execute a remote attended update and discuss
how to do a CID update. In another room, the OS/2 Help Desk will work
with folks to solve hardware and software problems.

When, where, and how to get there:

SCOUG will be meeting on Saturday, March 20, at 9:00 AM (PST) at the
IBM offices located in Plaza Tower, 600 Anton Bl., Costa Mesa, CA,
on the 2nd floor. From I-405, exit onto Bristol northbound (one exit
NW of the I-405/Hwy 55 interchange). Turn right on Anton Blvd (the
first signal north of I-405). Go east 2 signals and turn right

The Heritage Christian High School in Anaheim is at 2530 W. La Palma Ave.
It is on the south side of La Palma Ave. (about 200 ft. E of Magnolia)

have detours. Check the SCOUG web site for updates, and leave
yourself plenty of time to find our new SIG meeting location.
