Some time ago I created a little C program to solve some 
problems that I was having with Auto Wget Daemon.
Well, I was developing it with the help of some friends, 
and the result was a good program called AutoGet/2. It is 
like an "enhanced" Auto Wget Daemon, and I invite you to 
try it.

Unfortunately, I lost the source code, and so I'll not be 
able to support it, BUT I have been using it for 6 months 
and I had no problems.
