[WarpCast] OS/2 eBay Report - 9/29/99 |
Warpstock 99 - Atlanta, October 16-17, 1999 Two fun filled days of OS/2 and YOU! Registration discount has been extended to October 14th! Visit http://www.warpstock.org for full details ******************************************** Source: (timur@tabi.org) Moderator: Christopher B. Wright (wrightc@dtcweb.com) ********************************************************************** Every Monday, I'll be reporting on OS/2-related items for sale on http://www.ebay.com and the comp.os.os2.marketplace newsgroup. Even if you're not thinking about buying anything OS/2 related, you might find something that catches your interested. On eBay, there are several copies of OS/2 2.x, Warp 3, Warp 4, and Lotus applications available for sale, as well as several OS/2 books, mostly for OS/2 2.x or Warp 3. There are also a number of magazines for sale, in particular someone is selling a collection of about 20 issues from 5 magazines ("OS/2 Professional Magazine Issues & More OS2"). In the software category, we have: NetOp for OS/2, DB2/2 1.01, CM/2, Drive Image 2.0, GalCiv, the Gammatech Utils, Seagate Backup, Colorado Backup, a CD of drivers for Lexmark printers, and Corel SCSI 2.0. Someone's also selling a homemade CD of various versions of Star Office. For those of you looking for a good PCI video card, I recommend you check out the Elsa Winner 3000-L I'm selling on eBay. Back when Elsa cared about OS/2, they made fantastic OS/2 drivers, and the 3000-L comes with both GRADD and non-GRADD drivers. For collectors, we have: some OS/2 post-it notes, an interest OS/2 t-shirt (from Microsoft?), and the uncensored version of an OS/2 video featuring the famous David Barnes (you have to check out the description!). For programmers, we have Borland C++, an unspecified VisualAge compiler (probably Java), and a couple programming books. On comp.os.os2.marketplace, there are some OS/2 books for sale (including the valueable "Developing Multimedia Applications Under OS/2"), File Commander/2, Sytos Backup. For those of you who are wondering if there's any money in selling you're old OS/2 stuff, I can tell you that most items only go for a few dollars. However, there are exceptions. I recently sold my copy of Colorworks 2.0 and three plug-in kits for a grand total of $310. Those of you looking to sell your OS/2 related stuff, I strongly recommend you put it on eBay and post an announcement on comp.os.os2.marketplace. If you include the word "OS/2" in the title of your description, I'll see it and include it in the next report. I need to stress that you create a THOROUGH description of the product, preferably with a picture. Some people just don't get it: the description for GalCiv doesn't even say which version it is, and the description for "VisualAge 2.0" doesn't even tell you whether it's a Java or C++ compiler! Only a moron would expect people to bid high on an item without a thorough description. One thing that really helps is to include a hotlink to the manufacturer's web page for the product, if it's still available. A lot of manufacturers include tons of information for all their older products, because it doesn't cost them any money to keep that information around. If you're looking for OS/2 items on eBay, search on the phrase ("OS/2",OS2), including the parentheses. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To subscribe, unsubscribe, or for more information on WarpCast, visit: http://www.warpcast.com/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------
