PMView: The ultimate in image viewing Major update coming soon! Watch http://www.pmview.com/ for details ********************************************************************* Source: Trevor Hemsley (Trevor-Hemsley@dial.pipex.com) Moderator: Trevor Smith (trevor@haligonian.com) ------------------------------------------------------- The OS/2 native newsreader Pronews/2 (formerly from Panacea Software) threw a few bugs when the year changed to Y2K. There are now several methods of fixing the problems that ProNews/2 users found. Get the replacement ProNews.dll file to replace the offending code with a newly compiled DLL from: ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/pn2_15b1_y2k_dll.zip Eventually this patch will be at: ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/internet/news/reader/pn2_15b1_y2k_dll.zip This replacement DLL does not contain the spell checking code as the source available to us does not contain this. This replacement DLL should be used with ProNews/2 1.50B1. Or, get the patch available from: http://www.tavi.co.uk/os2pages/oldsoft.html#ProNews and patch your existing DLL. This should retain the functionality of the spell checker in your existing DLL. Two versions of the patch are available, one for the DLL dated 10th May, 1998 and one for the one dated 8th May, 1998. Both fixes should be used with ProNews 1.50B1 only. If you currently run ProNews 1.00 then your choices are upgrade to 1.50B1: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/internet/news/reader/pn2_15b1.zip or put up with the bugs. Bugs fixed by these fixes: Replies to posts made in the Year 2000 will no longer show as being made in the year 3900. Posts downloaded in the year 2000 will no longer be aged off immediately if aging is used. Doing a Group/Refresh Newsgroup list will no longer ask for news newsgroups from the year 100. The DLL replacement additionally makes ProNews respect the user's TZ setting. ------------------------------------------------------- To subscribe, unsubscribe, or for more information on WarpCast, visit: http://www.warpcast.com/ -------------------------------------------------------
