FileStar/2 is a PM File Manager for OS/2 that has been continuously developed/supported since about 1994. I'm not sure when Jim Read(developer of both FileStar/2 and Unimaint) plans to release the GA version, but there may be a public beta in July. There is a list of features in the new release at: http://www.filestar.com but for me the most notable improvement is overall speed. Some of the new features I have found most useful in the beta include: Support for FTP.IFS. You can Attach/Detach from FTP sites via the FS/2 menu and assign a drive letter. This allows you to use FS/2 commands such a ZipView, Copy, View on remote sites. ZipView can show/extract remote zip file contents. A new internal editor called FlexEdit, which has both a View and Edit mode as well as a Hex mode. For such a small, fast editor, it is very customizable and full of features. A new improved file find function with Grep or string search by selected files, directory or drive(s). Text search any type file. Network support for connecting/disconnecting LAN shares. Directory Marks, which allows you to easily bookmark most frequently used directories and access them by chording the mouse in the directory selection window. Also the past 20 accessed directories can be listed by chording in the file list areas. Both these features make getting around bigger drives to where you need to be a lot easier. A file Obliteration function to make deleted file(s)/directories unretrievable by performing overwrites to meet DOD specifications. The Copy function has been enhanced to provide the capability to split/rejoin large files. And yes FileSatr/2's ZipView can finally view self-executing ZIP files. Other changes are listed at: http://www.filestar.com/pages/fsv3beta/V3_Index.html for anyone interested. I have been using FileStar/2 for almost as long as I've been using OS/2, so I'm definitely looking forward to this update. Nice to see a long time OS/2 product still being supported and expanded. ------------------------------------------------------- To subscribe, unsubscribe, or for more information on WarpCast, visit: http://www.warpcast.com/ -------------------------------------------------------
