Correction on Crystal sound drivers for CS4614, CS4624,CS4280 (ver 2311)
In a news message from Voice news this was reported:
" Since some IBM Thinkpads have Crystal soundchips the drivers have been
developed further by IBM. "
This is not correct. I know the lastest release of the Crystal PCI OS/2
driver was updated by Crystal... (part of Cirrus Logic). IBM has not taken
over development.... There is also a new release of the AC 97 driver that
does not allocate your serial port....
BTW both the Crystal drivers: PCI driver version 3.11 and 5.02 for AC 97
are on the German CD 3 of eComStation.

Update on the Feb 5th. Display Option dialog works and preferences and
colors now saved.

Sound drivers for Crystal PCI sound chips BETA
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/cwos2311.zip
There are more recent versions available, but not from the Crystal
website. Since some IBM Thinkpads have Crystal soundchips the drivers have
been develeoped further by IBM. You can get the most recent official
version from here (v 3.10 file name: aftpitos.exe): http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/MIGR-4ENRG5.html?lang=en_US&page=brand&brand=root&doctype=&subtype=Cat
In December 2001 a version 3.11 appeared for a short time on IBM testcase.
I am using this version with OS/2 4 fixpack 12 so far without any
problems. Since it is no longer available from testcase, I have uploaded
it to Hobbes incoming. So, hurry up !
Sane 1.07 released
Franz Bakan has ported Scanner Access Now Easy (Sane) 1.07 to OS/2
SANE is a universal scanner interface. The value of such a universal
interface is that it allows writing just one driver per image acquisition
device rather than one driver for each device and application.
http://home.tiscalinet.de/fbakan/sane107.htm
This version should work for Epson, some Mustek and some Microtek scanners
(others are untested). USB -Scanners are not supported under OS/2.
For more information about Sane see the Sane homepage:
For easier usage their exist several frontends:
e.g. XSane 0.84 (which needs XFree86) http://home.tiscalinet.de/fbakan/xsane-os2.htm
or Tame 0.94 (a PM application) http://www.os2world.com/goran/tame.htm
and others which you can find on hobbes

VTeX/2 v7.530 - the VTeX distribution for OS/2
What is VTeX/2 ?
VTeX/2 is a TeX program for OS/2, which can generate PDF or PostScript
output immediately from the TeX source file.
VTeX/2 comes with a comprehensive LaTeX system, including many additional
fonts and macro packages, as well as the Bibtex and Makeindex programs. A
basic plain TeX system is provided, too.
In contrast to pdfTeX, VTeX supports inclusion of PostScript images (EPS),
as well as inline PostScript programming, even when generating PDF output.
Packages such as PStricks, PSfrag and draftcopy can be used with VTeX. For
more information on the built-in PostScript interpreter (GeX), see the GeX
page.
In contrast to traditional TeX systems, no intermediate DVI files are
generated, no "dvi driver programs" are required, and there is no need to
care for their sometimes fussy setup. The common PostScript and PDF
viewers Ghostscript and Acrobat Reader are to be used for (pre)viewing and
printing.
VTeX's output is immediately suitable for public distribution, e.g., over
the WWW, since PDF and PostScript are standardized document formats. PDF
files generated by VTeX version 7.30 and above do not conflict with
Acrobat Reader 5.
Actually, VTeX/2 is a partial port of the VTeX/Win TeX compiler by
MicroPress Inc. It does not include the shell and/or visual tools and does
not support HTML generation.
What is new ?
* Version 7.53 of the VTeX compiler,
* EC/TC fonts in Type 1 format,
* ArabTeX with related Arabic and Hebrew fonts in Type 1 format, * ...and
more, see the file NEWS.

WarpIN and XWorkplace 0.9.16 released
ENGLISH VERSION
==========================
After a long, long wait, WarpIN and XWorkplace have
both been updated to V0.9.16.
1. WarpIN V0.9.16 has been released.
WarpIN is intended to become the new universal OS/2
installer. It is becoming more and more popular among
OS/2 developers because of its flexibility and ease of
use. It has full system configuration (CONFIG.SYS,
WPS classes, WPS objects) and can fully undo all the
changes to your system again.
V0.9.16 hopefully fixes some problems many people
were having with V0.9.14.
2. XWorkplace V0.9.16 is out also.
XWorkplace is the most feature-rich freeware Workplace
Shell enhancer on the planet, and even better, it is
OpenSource. XWorkplace is the successor to my popular
XFolder utility and has become a Netlabs project.
For details, please refer to the download address
below.
V0.9.16 fixes a large number of bugs that people have
found in earlier versions. In addition, you get a
bunch of new features -- for example, "turbo folders",
which make all your folder populates much faster.
Note: To install XWorkplace V0.9.14, you also need
WarpIN V0.9.14 or higher, since XWorkplace now
comes as a self-installing executable. I recommend
using V0.9.16 to avoid the problem with your existing
XCenter disappearing on install.
To get the new WarpIN and XWorkplace, please go to:
WarpIN and XWorkplace are Netlabs projects, released under
the GNU General Public Licence. The source code is
available on the Netlabs CVS server. See
http://www.netlabs.org/nosa and the above address
for details.
We have created four mailing lists at groups.yahoo.com:
-- warpin-user
-- warpin-dev
-- xworkplace-user
-- xworkplace-dev
for WarpIn and XWorkplace users and developers,
respectively. HOWEVER, please note that I am currently
not able to answer a hundred messages per day. If you
want to report a bug, this is appreciated, but do not
be disappointed if you do not get an answer. And please
do not try either to mail me privately instead, that
won't change things either. Thanks for your patience.
Have fun!
