I'm very proud to announce a new Online Community on the Web which is dedicated
to OS/2 Warp.
commTalk.de is starting on sunday, march 19. It features a wide range of discussion
forums with message boards, software libraries and chat rooms. You will find a big
OS/2 forum (with more than 600 MB of OS/2 related Software and documents) as well
as forums for Linux, Java, Palm Computing, Windows, Internet, but also Lifestyle
and Travel.
commTalk.de is a completely free service. And it may be of interest for you:
It runs in parts on OS/2 Warp Server for e-Business (rest of the presence is running
on Linux).
commTalk.de is based in Germany, but English messages and foreign members are
greatly welcome. The forums are designed for multi-language usage. This means, you
can define the language of the user interface of the database. To make it easy for
all of you, the default language is English.
I would be very happy to see you at:
Kind regards,
Carsten Mueller

After submitting a request on the Sun comment-form
http://www.sun.com/cgi-bin/comment-form.pl
for a new release of an OS/2 version of StarOffice 5.2 I received the following
mail (after a few days):
***
Dear Sun customer,
Thank you for your interest in StarOffice.
As part of the long-term planning for StarOffice, Sun has assessed platform demand,
momentum in the marketplace, the cost of porting to those platforms, as well as
the business case for adding or dropping platforms.
Based on this analysis, Sun will no longer release future versions of the StarOffice
Suite on OS/2. Version 5.1a will be the last version of StarOffice on OS/2. Sun
will provide a range of support and transition assistance to OS/2 customers. StarOffice
software will continue to be available on the Solaris operating environment, Linux
and Windows 2000/98/95/NT.
Sincerely,
Amanda Carter Sun Customer Service Specialist

I'd just like to let you know I released PMBitchX 1.0c16 release 2. I fixed a
couple show stopper bugs from release 1. And I am using my new installer, if you
are into IRC please try this out and let me know how the installer and the IRC client
works for you.
Thanks!
The PMBitchX home page is:
The new file is currently on Hobbes at:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/pmbx10c16.zip
and should eventually move to:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/internet/irc/client/pmbx10c16.zip
The Aztech SC16-3D sound card with eprom uses the AD1816 chip but does not run
with the standard drivers provided by Aztech or Analog Devices.
I patched the driver to work with this card and uploaded it to Hobbes. The file
azsc163d.zip can currently be found here:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/azsc163d.zip
and will most likely be moved to:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os/system/drivers/sound/azsc163d.zip

Since the release of Win2000 there has been alot of discussion about how Win2000
will kill the BM for OS/2 every time you boot Win2000. In looking through the news
groups today I stumbled across this bit of news which should help everybody. The
following is the text of how to fix it.
Windows 2000 RC2 did not destroy Boot Manager the way the final release version
does. The problem has been traced to a single Win2000 file. The file is FASTFAT.SYS.
It lives in the WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory and the WINNT\SYSTEM32\DLLCACHE
directoy.
What you need to do is copy this file from a Win2000 RC2 (possibly earlier version
also - I don't know) install onto your Win2000 final version install above directories.
You need to copy it to DLLCACHE first. This is a hidden directory, so you need to
go to a command prompt and CD to it. Rename the original one first and then copy
the RC2 version there. You will get an error message box about a system file being
changed. Press CANCEL. Now copy the file into the DRIVERS directory. These directions
assume you are doing the coping under Win2000. I guess if you do it under OS/2 it
might be easier, I dunno. I did it under Win2000 because it's installed on a FAT32
partition so OS/2 can't see it.
Anyways, reboot with your OS/2 install disks and re-install the Boot Manager.
You can also add Win2000 to the Boot Manager. Now, when you boot Win2000, BM is
no longer destroyed.
Version 0.8.4 of DIA has been released for OS/2. Now it also runs in every color
depth.
DIA is a VISIO-like Diagram program. It has the normal simple vector drawing
tools (rectange, circle, text, pixel graphics...), specific Diagram things (connection
line etc) and a useful symbol list (a few for every thing).

What is SciTech Display Doctor for OS/2?
SciTech Display Doctor for OS/2 brings SciTech's proven DOS and Windows device
support technologies to the OS/2 Operating System. Although one of the core features
of our DOS and Windows products is the support for the VESA VBE/Core standard, the
OS/2 version has nothing at all to do with VESA services. Rather SciTech Display
Doctor for OS/2 incorporates the new SciTech Nucleus, Graphics Architecture device
driver technology to bring SciTech's device support to the OS/2 platform.
SciTech Nucleus is a binary portable, OS neutral, device driver architecture.
As binary portable drivers, SciTech can fully develop and test the core device drivers
in the DOS and Windows environments, while being able to target any Intel x86 based
OS as the runtime environment (such as OS/2). This essentially allows the OS/2 product
to utilise the same SciTech binary device drivers as the DOS and Windows versions
of the product, improving the quality and performance of the drivers for all supported
operating systems.
Runtime Requirements
SciTech Display Doctor for OS/2 requires a version of OS/2 Warp 3 or OS/2 Warp
4 in order to run. More imporantly, it requires at least Warp 3 with fixpack 35,
or Warp 4 with fixpack 5 installed. If you have a version with earlier fixpacks
installed, SciTech Display Doctor will refuse to install.
List of all supported chips:
This is a complete list of the various graphics cards that this version of SciTech
Display Doctor supports. Please note that this list refers to the actual chips being
used, not a board-level implementation. Thus you will not see any products from
Hercules or STB on the list, but their products are supported because they use S3,
Cirrus, Tseng, etc. chips. Also, any card with less than 512KB of memory cannot
be supported by SciTech Display Doctor.
Note: Please check the separate list of supported laptop chipsets for more information
if you are using this product on a laptop. All laptop chipsets are still listed
here as many laptop chipset can also be used in regular PCI/AGP boards.

Brian Hayes, a subscriber to ISP800 services, recently submitted this letter
to WarpCast offering a bit more info on the status of ISP800's toll free and local
Internet services: ----
Everyone knows the ISP800 service has been set back a bit by a complex set of
circumstances (I'm glad it's not me dealing with it) but there are 'real people'
behind it so they will no doubt survive. They are very willing to be helpful when
you can find them (they're a bit busy).
Subscribers can reach help at 1-877-247-9666.
In short; they hope to be up with additional local POPs this Fri. ; the 800 lines
(I don't know if they will be the same) will be reinstated on a metered basis (pay
per minute). The metered fees will be low. ----
