An alpha version of the port to OS/2 PM of Mesa by Bian Paul is available.
Mesa is a 3-D multiplatform graphics library with an API which is very similar
to that of OpenGL.
See more at:
http://www.laser.ru/soft/WarpMesaGL
I am developing and accounting app called $CHANGE$ (Comes Hard ANd Goes Easy).
I have just uploaded a pre-alpha version to Hobbes Incoming:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/CHANGE.Zip
What I need at this time is feedback to see if there is interest. Since there
are several accounting apps for OS/2 already, another may be overdoing it. I just
wanted to develop one that worked the way I liked. My inspiration for this was the
old DOS app MoneyCounts, which I really liked.
The pre-Alpha version is to show the basic transaction engine and capabilities,
and ease of use, like MoneyCounts. The download is less than 150K, which may sound
small, but the main workings are there. I would like feedback before proceeding
further. No sense developing an app no one may want.
Please send feedback to:
Terry Norton ccsten@usa.net
Yesterday, we posted a report of another ODIN success http://www.os2ss.com/warpcast/wc5007.html.
This post included a link to a RealVideo movie of Quake actually running on OS/2.
Due to web server resources, the author of the video we linked to has asked that
people use this mirror site for the video instead of the URL we originally posted:
http://www.physics.purdue.edu/~crh/files/quake3-320.rm
As before, please don't try to stream this file. Download it to your local disk
instead, opening it in RealPlayer. Requires RealPlayer 5.0 or higher.
Right now I've uploaded ARJ/2 v 2.71 to Hobbes. It's currently available as:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/arj2_271.exe
It should eventually be at:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/archiver/arj2_271.exe
The Russian national language version is named:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/arj2r271.exe
As stated earlier, I'll gladly accept any kind of assistance on producing other
national language versions.
Millennium Technologies famous for the DataBook for OS/2 Warp has been offline
for approximately 4 weeks now.
I received an email from David Both which states, "I have not gone away,
and Millennium and the DataBook will be back when Bellsouth can fix the problem."

Larsen Commander version 1.1 has been released!
You can download it and find more information at:
http://home.sol.no/~leilarse/lcmd/index.html
For a complete list of changes, improvements and fixes, take a look at:
http://home.sol.no/~leilarse/lcmd/history.html
Larsen Commander is a powerful GUI File Manager and Command Processor that has
a look and feel like the classic Norton Commander. The most notable difference is
that the Larsen Commander is pure GUI. Still it has a built in command line and
a scrollable console monitor.
Larsen Commander combines the very best of two very different worlds; - the command
line and the file management panels. Both available at the same time, and even in
parallel while commands are running in the background!
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, especially if Jack is an OS/2 user.
But don't worry, Warpstock 2000 has the answer, and you're invited, too!
The Board of Directors of Warpstock, Inc. is pleased to announce that VOICE,
Virtual OS/2 International Consumer Education group, will be hosting the (in)famous
Saturday night social event at Warpstock 2000.
Details for the event are not available at this time. VOICE members are scouring
the neighborhood around the hotel for a suitable site and affordable pricing. We
expect that it will be as popular and as exciting as last year's dinner and entertainment
was. Watch for the details as soon as we get them.
[Due to the unknown nature of what VOICE is planning and exactly where the social
will be held, we cannot either price or accept reservations for the event. We will
give you plenty of time to register should seating be limited well before Warpstock
2000.]
If you have any suggestions or input for the social event, please email them
to liaison@os2voice.org.
The 4th annual Warpstock conference will be held September 9-10, 2000, in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, and is produced by Warpstock, Inc., a North Carolina non-profit corporation.
The Warpstock annual conference is a gathering of OS/2 users and vendors from around
the world for the purpose of education and advocacy. More information is available
at the Warpstock 2000 web site:
Ghostgum has released Ghostview 2.91 beta. Ghostview is the PM Frontend to ghostscript.
ftp://ftp.cs.wisc.edu/pub/ghost/ghostgum/beta/
Some clarification:
Gsview 2.9 is identical to Gsview 2.8 with two differences:
1. it works with Ghostscript 6.01
2. Pstotext is broken, copying the corresponding pstotext files from Ghostview 2.8
to 2.9 fixes this bug.
Gsview 2.91 is identical to Gsview 2.81 beta with one difference, it works with
Ghostscript 6.01.
Gsview 2.91 is a bugfixed Gsview 2.90 (but with the broken pstotext !), it can
be registered, although it works after also unregistered, it only shows a 'nag'
screen.
Don't bother about the possibility to register, it's better that free software
is further developed and the developer wants some cash for it, instead the other
way round (remember StarOffice).
I'm very pleased to announce the release of DSTswitch version 1.80. For those
of you who don't know yet, DSTswitch is a utility that interprets the TZ environment
varible and automatically adjusts the system time by using this information (DSTswitch
does not require your computer to be connected to the Internet). Well, that's at
least DSTswitch's main purpose.
What's new in version 1.80
* Reduced memory footprint
* Slightly changed user interface
* Display possibilities in title bar extended (Uptime, UTC, Net Beat, Millennium
counter)
* Re-designed TCP/IP interface. It now accepts multiple client connections running
simultaneously, and got rid of this system blocking problem as well.
For more information on DSTswitch visit:
Where to download DSTswitch release 1.80:
You can currently download the package from:
(search for dsts180.zip) and Germany's LEO archive.
My third article on remote booting diskless Windows 95/98 workstations from OS/2
Warp Server is available at:
http://www.matem.unam.mx/~micho/ripl3.html
This article discusses:
-Uniformization of the clients using purely Microsoft redirection software (both
16-bit and 32-bit);
-How to make a mini-registry suitable for DOS-mode networking;
-The problem of long filenames;
-A couple of related tips and tricks.
Well because not everybody looks in the newsgroups (I visit them about once a
month) I thought I'd send this in. This message is from the 22nd of March. It shows
what ODIN does!
Complete information on ODIN is available at:

Hey Dave, I hope you like crow. Please download this file. (~7.2MB)
ftp://weebe.indstate.edu/pub/quake3_demo/quake3-320.rm
(Please don't try to stream this file. Download it to your local disk instead,
opening it in RealPlayer.) Requires RealPlayer 5.0 or higher.
Permission is granted to copy and distribute anywhere you like. Anyone interested
in the original video should email me. (It's huge.)
A brief description of the video follows:
From an OS/2 window, I run "pe quake3.exe". The quake3 console window
opens, and displays it's data. Next a diaglouge warns me that my video card may
not support a windowed session, and to click cancel if this is correct. (It is,
the VooDoo2 only does full-screen.)
The 3Dfx logo appears, and fades. A brief pause, and then the Quake3 opening
splash followed by the main menu. I play a quick skirmish, (while displaying my
poor aiming skills) and then look at some of the game settings. Finally, I exit
to the desktop.
Total length: ~3 mins 17 seconds.
Full screen, full 3D acceleration, full sound, fully playable...
The version 4 of Nice OS/2 Enhancer is now available. It runs on Aurora and supports
Odin applications. I updated appr. 30% of code and revised a bug - "panic"
pop-up messages during the exiting.
The Nice OS/2 Enhancer adds new features to the OS/2 system: image movement in
all windows by means of mouse and keyboard, frames and controls modified for OS/2
and Win-OS/2 (updated), workplace extension - four "Rooms" around the
desktop (updated for Odin), key definition for any OS/2 version (more than 30 keys
are added), priority management for some applications (new), removing of items from
the Window list (new), various patches for OS/2 (updated too).
This application is totally free. The source code is also available.
You can download it from "incoming" directory of Hobbes:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/nice-os2-v40.zip
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/nice-os2-v40-src.zip

Play Tic-Tac-Toe as you've never seen it before! This version of the game actually
requires thought! ;-)
Challenge your mental imaging capabilities and boggle your mind while getting
the pants beat off of you by a stupid computer program running in a FULL SCREEN
640x480 8 bit display in OS/2!
This is a simple application I threw together using Scitech's excellent MGL (Multiplatform
Graphics Library). Though it is not terribly graphically impressive, it exercises
the ability of MGL to change to 640x480 8 bit color screen mode and display graphics
and directly access the hardware color palette. If all reports from this application
are good, I will port more graphically impressive applications to OS/2 using Scitech's
MGL (such as Retrocade).
Also after receiving some feedback, I will release the source to this program
to the public.
REQUIREMENTS:
You *must* install and boot up with a copy of SDDHELP.SYS from Scitech's Display
Doctor software from beta 19 or higher. You must do this NO MATTER WHICH VIDEO DRIVERS
YOU ARE CURRENTLY USING.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
If the Scitech Display Doctor video drivers work with your video hardware, USE
THEM. :-)
DOWNLOADS:
Scitech Display Doctor and MGL are available at:
4D Tic-Tac-Toe is available at:
http://emuos2.vintagegaming.com/downloads/mgl_4dttt.zip
FEEDBACK:
Feedback is very much encouraged and welcome. I need to know how well MGL is
working with your systems before I can decide it is worthwhile to port a larger
application using MGL. Let me know whether or not this works with your hardware
and drivers. Write to
mamedev@stny.rr.com
Be sure to read the ReadMe.OS2 file included completely before using this software.
The "Mirrors" is an old Tetris-like game. Playing this game user must
control flying objects and arrange them in a mirrored formation.
A bug is fixed in new version: sound files were packed as SFX archive which cannot
be extracted in Aurora.
You can download the game from "incoming" directory of Hobbes:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/mirrors.zip
The directory for further placement is:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/pub/os2/games/puzzle/mirrors.zip
The JavaDive for OS/2 methods allows Java applets to get a direct access to the
hardware I/O and COM/LPT ports, directly, without drivers. These methods will be
helpful for application developers for working with industrial hardware, medicine
technics, modems, lasers, electronic info-tables and other devices.
Note that JavaDive requires OS/2 Warp 4.x with Netscape Navigator and Java 1.1.x.
You can download it from "incoming" directory of Hobbes:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/javadive.zip
The directory for further placement is:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/java/dev/javadive.zip
but there is an old version of JavaDive there now.

WarpNote 1.91 is now available!
Tired of those yellow sticky notes that won't stick on your monitor? Here come
the sticky notes that remain where you put them: On your OS/2 desktop. WarpNote
gives you easy access to little yellow windows where you can note down everything
you want. The program is simple and easy to use and consumes as little memory as
possible. Each and any feature can be configured and adjusted to the user's needs.
Extensive scripting capabilities give you unlimited possibilities (a birthday-reminder
is included as an example script). A Blowfish encryption interface ensures that
private data is stored in a secure way.
WarpNote is an ideal desktop companion, a fire-and-forget solution to keep all
sorts of information - e.g. your shopping list or even confidential information
like banking data, passwords or PIN numbers.
This version is merely a bugfix release that corrects a bug in the password dialog
and a bug in control center handling.

I've looked at the Rebol for OS/2 status at http://www.rebol.com
and its port is still marked as 'pending'. So I mailed their support and asked when
will it be available. This was their response:
REBOL/core is not yet available for OS/2. We are still planning on porting REBOL/core
to OS/2, but a couple of other projects are in the works at present and therefore,
the OS/2 port (and others) have had to be postponed for a while.
We plan on notifying the OS/2 community through various OS/2 news sources when
the port is available, or you can check back with us periodically.
Requests like this may help to raise the priority of the OS/2 port, so I'll make
a note of your request.
If you have any additional questions/comments/suggestions, please let us know!
REBOL Support
From the REBOL web site:
REBOL is smart-client technology for building one-to-one relationships between
e-retailers and customers.
With REBOL, businesses are able to deliver more engaging web-based marketing
information than possible with dull email text messages. REBOL is exceptional at
"pushing" promotional information to established customers.
REBOL's client delivers content in a new, exciting, and accelerated way. It allows
the retailer to improve customer sales and brand loyalty through a rich and effective
direct connection to the user's desktop.
OS/2 users have always appreciated the good looks and power of their favorite
operating system. And now Warpstock 2000 also has something that looks good and
complements the power it brings OS/2 users.
The Board of Directors of Warpstock, Inc. is pleased to unveil the official Warpstock
2000 logo and the corresponding web site support program. Web masters are invited
to add the official logo to their OS/2-related web sites with a link back to the
Warpstock web site:
http://www.warpstock.org
The WS Logo Support Program is intended to boost awareness for Warpstock 2000,
and it is the easiest and cheapest way for web masters to support this year's conference.
The more web sites that carry the logo, the more people will attend Warpstock, and
that's good for all OS/2 users, developers, and vendors.
Details for joining the WS Logo Support Program can be found at:
http://www.warpstock.org/2000/logo_sites.html
The 4th annual Warpstock conference will be held September 9-10, 2000, in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, and is produced by Warpstock, Inc., a North Carolina non-profit corporation.
The Warpstock annual conference is a gathering of OS/2 users and vendors from around
the world for the purpose of education and advocacy. More information is available
at the Warpstock 2000 web site:

or
http://www.quasarbbs.com/francesco/checkurl
or, on Hobbes, in the incoming dir and later at:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/internet/www/util/chkurl16.zip
CheckUrl parses HTML and text files checking if the URLs they contain exist.
Now checkurl can check online pages too. It can be useful to purge your bookmark
file or to check your HTML pages.
Inno Tek has released the first beta Macromedia Flash plug-in for OS/2 and we
just tested it on Warp 4 FP12. The beta runs fine and we tested it on several complicated
and sophisticated web sites using Flash. We just updated our web site with a big
illustrated report about this test on our OS/2 Client Warp 4 FP12 + Netscape 4.61.
Creating an international OS/2 technical conference is turning out to be a lot
of fun. We're getting a chance to meet some of the really great people who use Warp,
and every one of them is delighted that WarpTech will be three days long.
WarpTech will include sessions that delve into OS/2's deep technical side. For
example, IBM is sending Scott Garfinkle to talk on The OS/2 Programming Model and
Problem Determination Tools In OS/2, and IBM's Jeff Kobal will cover the single
input queue.
David Azarewicz will speak on Designing A Home Network and Randy George will
cover Managing A Server-Based Environment. WarpTech will give you lots of OS/2 networking
info and plenty of network tuneup tricks.
Here's the WarpTech web site so you can see everything that's coming up in 10
weeks:
And the WarpTech Registration form will tell you how little it costs for three
big days of OS/2.
Take a look at the WarpTech Travel page to see what air and hotel discounts are
available from your home town. Plus, since part of your Memorial Day Weekend will
be at WarpTech, turn it into a full vacation in what's called the Valley of the
Sun! The special low hotel rate -- almost half the regular rate for the resort --
is available for additional days before and after WarpTech. By the way, if you're
really budget conscious Joyce Clarke usana-clarke@home.com
is our Roommates Coordinator.
See you Friday to Sunday, May 26-28, at WarpTech 2000!

I've set up a mailing list for everyone who wants to migrate from StarOffice
to Lotus SmartSuite, now that Sun has canceled further development of StarOffice
for OS/2. I've also created a kind of skeleton for a howto document which I hope
to be able to fill during the next weeks and months. Besides all the OS/2 specific
things, I intend to cover cross-platform issues for people with both Windows and
OS/2 systems.
To join the mailing list, send a message with the word "subscribe"
in the message body to so2lss-os2-request@more4u.de
You can then address messages to the list to so2lss-os2@more4u.de
The howto document is being created at:

P.S.: I won't be very active in the list myself during the next two or three
weeks.
