Developer's toolkit and documentation for the LVM API.
Recent versions of OS/2 use the Logical Volume Manager (LVM), a powerful
replacement for FDISK. The functionality of LVM is contained in LVM.DLL,
a.k.a. the 'LVM Engine'. This toolkit makes that engine available for any
application developer to use as a public API. This makes it possible to
write (for instance) a completely new user interface for LVM.
Documentation and sample programs are included.

PMStripper 1.26 released
I have released PMStripper 1.26 and uploaded the shareware version to
hobbes (http://hobbes.nmsu.edu) as pms_126.zip. It is currently in the
/pb/incoming directory, but it will be moved to
/pub/os2/apps/internet/www/util
This PM utility strips HTML codes from Web pages, leaving only the text
and optionally the URLs. While the layout of tables and lists is lost
during stripping, data is sorted to separate lines for legibility. It now
translates iso8859-1 character codes (windows codepage) to codepage 437 or
codepage 850 character codes.
Although Netscape will save a web page as plain ascii text, it also saves
the layout of the page. Using PMStripper as the HTML source viewer with
Netscape will make it easier obtain just the text of an article posted on
a web page.

New in PMStripper 1.26
Added accelerator keys Alt+1 , Alt+2, Alt+3, Alt+C, and Ctrl+E
Alt+1 toggles the "discard the first 100 lines" option and then reloads
the source file
Alt+2 toggles the "discard the first 200 lines" option and then reloads
the source file
Alt+3 toggles the "discard the first 300 lines" option and then reloads
the source file. Alt+C performs the same function as ALT+3. Since
"discard the first 300 lines" works best for the CNN site, I selected
Alt+C as a reminder.
Ctrl+E marks the text from the current cursor position to the end of text.
The following key combinations work in PMStripper and many other OS/2
applications.
Shift+Home moves the cursor to the top of the text
Shift+End moves the cursor to the end of the text
Ctrl+Shift+Home selects the text from the current position to
the top of the text
Ctrl+Shift+End selects the text from the current position to
the end of the text
New in PMStripper 1.25
Added menu entries under "Strip Options" to discard the first 100, 200,
or 300 lines. Using one of these options may eliminate most of unwanted
text from sidebar links that appear on the left side of many web pages.
On some sites (such as CNN.com) the sidebar links can result in several
pages of text and blank lines that are not part of the wanted information
on a web page.
New in PMStripper 1.24
Added 'Translate iso8859-1 character codes' option under 'Strip Options'.
Fixed bug in how html comments are stripped.
New in PMStripper 1.23
Added 'Hard code word wrap' menu item under "File" on the menubar. This
option adds CR-LF pairs to each line in the display window to make the
current word wrap permanent. This should make it easier to print the
stripped text.

RexxMail build 20020606.154204 released.
A new build of RexxMail is available from my web site:
http://www.degeus.com/rexx/rexxmail_english.html
or
http://www.degeus.com/rexx/rexxmail_nederlands.html
where you can also view the RexxMail on-line tutorial, readme, history,
and changes files.
The distribution ZIP file is also available from the Hobbes repository:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=rexxmail
Changes:
The operation of the mailing list mechanism has been changed. Instead of
the previous "To: listname@rexxmail" construct, RexxMail now uses the
standard RFC method of addressing a group list: "To: list:;", i.e. the
name of the list file, followed by a colon and a semicolon. In addition,
RexxMail can now send a message to every address in a RexxMail addresses
folder, simply by substituting the name of the folder for the list file
name.
The "/NewMessage", "/NewMessageHere", "/NewMessageOpen", and
"/NewMessageHereOpen" command switches now also accept address strings
starting with "mailto:" (case-insensitive) to achieve compatibility with
some software featuring "mailto:" exits for calling external mailers.
RexxMail is released under the terms of the GNU General Public License,
see http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html

Update on the eCS IRC network....
I would like to thank all people who wanted to run an IRC deamon and again
Massimo Sangriso who has invested quite a lot of hours in the eComStation
IRC network.
As I wrote in the previous message:
You can get an IRC client from hobbes http://hobbes.nmsu.edu. My personal
favorite (maybe not the best around), is EZIRC. Which has some easy
features. This and other clients can be found at Judy's Warped World IRC
page:
http://www.gt-online.com/~bri/irc_clients.html
If you don't want to dive into an IRC client goto www.ecomstation.com and
click on "support/FAQ for eCS". Choose for "Live eCS Chat" and click on
"open chat window". Choose your nickname and connect.

Please note if your browser crashes it could be that you are running a
wrong version of Java (1.1.8 or 1.3 should work) or something is wrong
with the configuration. The Java applet has been succesfully tested with
Netscape 4.61 for OS/2, Opera for OS/2, Warpzilla for OS/2 and the IBM
Browser for OS/2. If you don't have an OS/2 box handy and you want to
connect, it also has been tested with Netscape 6.2 and Internet Explorer
5.5 under Windows 2000.
You can however via the webinterface only connect to the default eCS
channel. If you want to reach other channels on the network, download an
IRC client and connect to one of the servers directly.
For the OS/2 advocates who would like to know. All servers in the network
so far are OS/2 /eCS machines. Possibly some Linux boxes will join in the
future.... But our intention is to keep it mainly running on OS/2 of
course...
The following servers are now on the network

a) OS/2 Warp Convenience Package 2
Version 4.52 FixPak 1 (XR_F001) available
The first FixPak for CP 2 is available via SoftwareChoice. Attention: This FixPak includes important fixes for
Intel Pentium 4 Systems with more than 512 MB of RAM and for systems dumping on large IDE drives (using LBA).
In order to install CP 2 on a Pentium 4 system with more than 512 MB of RAM, you need to apply the corresponding fix
(p4fix.zip) to your installation media before installation. We recommend using updated boot diskettes instead of
burning an updated installation CD-ROM unless you are very familiar with bootable OS/2 CD-ROMs.
Get the FixPak from http://www3.software.ibm.com/cgi-bin/asd/priv/rsudl/images/xr_f001

b) IBM ThinkPad T30 with OS/2
support announced
This is an excerpt from
http://www.ibmlink.ibm.com/emealets&parms=H_ERIFZG020251
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following operating systems
support the ThinkPad T30 computer:
-OS/2 Warp Convenience Package 2 Version 4.52 with FixPak XR_F001 or later (Note 1)
-OS/2 Warp Convenience Package 1 Version 4.51 with FixPak XR_C002 or later
-OS/2 Warp 4.0 with FixPak XR_M016 or later
and Device Driver FixPak XR_D002 or later
OS/2 Warp V4.0 Limitations:
-For OS/2 operating system, the standby and hibernation power management functions are not
supported.
-OS/2 users should not enter suspend/hibernation mode with an Ethernet or token-ring card installed.
***Sidenote: In contrast to the limitations stated above, suspending a ThinkPad does work well in the following
scenarios:
- Use e100b.os2 (Intel(R) PRO PCI Driver) v4.35 or later for the built in MiniPCI Ethernet card. This
driver will be released on DDPak as soon as testing has been finished successfully.
- Use ibmtokcs.os2 (unmodified
from Convenience Pak) for IBM Turbo 16/4 PCMCIA Token Ring adapters.
An overview of updated drivers needed to run OS/2 on a T30 can be found at http://www7.software.ibm.com/2bcprod.nsf/4eddaa42e99c19e186256a700058020a/8dc8006e4d79dd5286256ba60059c245?OpenDocument

coming soon
Epson gave us notice on an upcoming drop of EPOMNI coming mid of June, supporting
the
following printer models:
- EPSON Stylus C60
- EPSON Stylus C70
- EPSON Stylus C80
Also,
it seems, that Epson is investigating on supporting newer models of the Photo printers. We will post an update, as
soon as we receive any news.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
g) VirtualPC TTT class coming
VirtualPC, both the OS/2 and the Windows version. This class we cover all insights, tuning, optimizations, enabling
/ disabling features, working with additions, dealing with the Virtual switch and so on. Primarily this class will be
for IBM internals (ITS projects and support) and Business Partners, both with current need in customer projects.
Everybody else will be put on standby and be confirmed on short notice, if space permits. Shedule currently includes a
class in Europe (Germany, area of Cologne) and USA (most likely Atlanta).
Please sent mail to emeawarp@de.ibm.com, requesting update on
VPC-TTT-Class, if you are interested to attend.
