Call for Warpstock 2004 bids
Warpstock 2003 is now about four months away, and the Warpstock, Inc.

is possible, we would like to announce the 2004 location at this years
event in San Francisco.
Every year some people complain that the location is too far or too
expensive for them to attend. Here is your chance to determine the
location and the cost. So if you are interested in making a bid please
send a letter outlining your ideas to madodel@ptdprolog.net (Remove
the DESPAM before sending). See the Bid Proposal page http://www.warpstock.org/about/bid_proposal.html for more information.

06192003 kernel updates on IBM Testcase
ftp://testcase.boulder.ibm.com/ps/fromibm/os2/
"This contains fixes since xr_e002/xr_m015/mcp/acp. Important note: If you
use the OS/2 SES facility, you need a new sesdd32.sys dated April 2001 or
later to use this kernel. Also, a matching dump formatter (df_ret.exe),
provided separately, is required, if you want to analyze a dump from this
kernel."
[Moderator's note: As always these are not officially supported by IBM
unless they tell you to use them. Please send any followup to
comp.os.os2.bugs on usenet. Also note that files are only on IBM's
testcase for 2-3 days, so if you want to try these get them now. Make
certain you back up any files replaced and don't try these on a production
system. Read any readme file before applying any changes. If your system
is working well, and you have no problems addressed by these updates, do
yourself a favour and don't mess with this. You have been warned.
The UNI and SMP files are for WSeB/ACP/eCS Pro (SMP kernel) and the W4
files are for post FP15/MCP versions, including eComStation. Only use the
SMP kernel on a machine with more then one CPU.
Here are the latest changes in this version, as posted in the readme file.
(See the Readme for a complete listing):
Bug Fixes:
04/16: Added test fix for trap 000e in _ldrSegFixAddIterRec
- *May* have fixed some strange program load behavior with the
implementation of the latest JR15038 fix.
Fixes to problems that exist in released code:
20030415 14.093h
- LDRSTACKOPT back out. It caused too much confusion and I'm not
100%
sure about its stability. Sigh.
- Some enhancements to the ".pb" command in the dump formatter
20030501 14.093i
- I kept forgetting to take out the code that closes file handles >
2
before starting PROTSHELL. The good news is that doing the close
reduces the number of leaked file handles by a few in some systems.
The bad news is that it also makes PMDD$ trap on boot on other
systems. So, if that happened to you with 14.093h, get this kernel.
As of now, add CLOSEFILES=TRUE if, like me, you need the changed
behavior (in my case, Microsoft C 6 kept aborting).
PJ29180 Trap 000E while taking a process dump
20030620 14.093i1
- don't use this one. I put it out by accident due to packaging bug.
20030621 14.094
- nothing new, but this is the first "official" (i.e. one where we'll
actually have full source code control) in a while. It leaves out
the CLOSEFILES keyword, though.
Vice/2 rel 1.12
Hello all,
a new release (1.12) of Vice/2 - the OS/2 port of VICE - the versatile
commodore emulator - is available.
Vice/2 uses DIVE and DART at the moment.
Please send bugreports and suggestions to tbretz@gsi.de
You can find the binaries at: http://www.d4m.de/vice2/
This is the first release implementing full screen support. Therefor you
need an GRADD based display driver (like Scitech Display Doctor and many
many others) - nothing else. Because fullscreen support is in beta state
it may happen that Vice/2 1.12 doesn't work for you or may crash your
system. Please be carefull. Please send me any information you have (about
your working system or noon-working system) and your vice2.log file - so
that I can enhace Vice/2's fullscreen support!
Have fun,
Thomas.
Wacom USB tablet driver update
Masami Kitamura has released new version of USB tablet driver. The driver
have tested only with Wacom Intuos2 USB tablet. The driver also considers
Wacom Graphire2 and Cintiq but not tested yet, so it may work, may not
work or just trap.
In some case, the driver fails to initialize USB tablet at OS/2 startup.
This causes "tablet doesn't work at all" situation. If you have this
trouble, please invoke rst.exe (or rst1.exe) at once to re-initialize
tablet.
Here is the installation instruction of USB tablet driver because no
document is included in the driver archive.
1. Unzip W2_003.zip
2. Copy usbwcm.sys into x:\OS2\BOOT
3. Place following line after OS/2 USB driver lines in config.sys.
DEVICE=x:\OS2\BOOT\USBWCM.SYS /V
4. Copy TabDll.dll to somewhere on libpath.
5. If tablet doesn't work after rebooting OS/2, invoke rst.exe.
And notes for the USB tablet driver:
1. If serial tablet driver is installed, uninstall it at first.
2. Don't use w1.exe and w2.exe. These are tools for serial tablet
driver.
3. Currently the USB tablet driver doesn't work with Amouse.

Tim's Warped Bargains: Brother HL-1650 Laser Printer
Dear Bargain Hunters:
Brother is trying to clear out lots of factory refurbished HL-1650 laser
printers right now. This printer works great with eComStation and OS/2
Warp using any relatively recent LaserJet family driver. It's a black and
white duplexing laser printer, rated at 16 pages per minute single sided.
Prints at 600 dpi, with the usual resolution enhancement circuitry to
smooth the pixel edges for higher quality. PCL, Postscript, and even some
dot matrix printer drivers will work with this machine. Both parallel and
USB ports are included.
Lowest price I could find is $229 from this web site:
http://store.yahoo.com/saveateaglestore/brothllaspri.html
with free U.S. shipping if you use the coupon code PW. PCNation.com has a
lower price but shipping makes it more expensive.
The manufacturer home page for this printer is here:
http://solutions.brother.com/hl1650/index.html
I'm not sure whether this printer has 220/240 volt capability. Some
places say no, others say yes. You should calculate the cost of
consumables (toner, drum unit) to see if this printer makes financial
sense. You're buying both the printer and the supplies it will consume.
I have no affiliation with these companies.

eComStation page updated (finally!)
Greetings Everyone,
After a long hiatus from updating our own web pages I finally got to work
on them this week. If you are still in the market for an eCS 1.1 upgrade
or new eCS 1.1 to install please check our pages at:
Then click on the "ERACC's Online Store" URL. We also sell custom built
PCs on which we will preload eCS if desired. Our target market is the
continental US, Alaska, Hawaii and US held territories.
We are still using the "free" service from Hypermart for now due to the
slow US economy so there are still those blasted pop-up ads over which I
have no control. If you use Mozilla you can disable pop-ups to make
visiting our pages more enjoyable.
If you notice anything amiss on the pages (other than the pop-ups) please
e-mail me a quick note about it. Thanks.

NewView 2.4.17
http://homepages.visp.co.nz/~aaronlawrence/NewView.html
NewView is a program for viewing OS/2 or eComStation help files, which
replaces IBM's original View program. NewView offers improvements such as
a nicer user interface and more options.
V2.4.17
* Multi-language support
See the Readme. Anyone can create translations!
* Turned off logging in new HelpMgr.dll
* Fix for .ce centering e.g. switch footnotes in cmdref
* Can find own help file using help paths
Your help is needed! NewView can now load different languages (see below)
but no translations yet exist. Anybody can create them with no extra
tools required.
It would be nice to get a German translation soon so it could be included
in eCS1.1/German.
Multi-lingual Support
---------------------
NewView can now load different languages for it's user interface. It
looks for a file called LANG.lng in it's own directory, where LANG is the
setting of the LANG environment variable. For example, on US systems
LANG=EN_US so it will look for EN_US.lng. If it cannot find that, it
tries looking for the major part of the LANG variable, for example
EN.lng. If it cannot find that, the default is US English (which is built
into NewView).
You can easily create a translation file for NewView. Use Tools - Debug -
Save/Update Language to create a new .lng file (you can call it what you
like, but follow the rules above if you want NewView to load it
automatically). This .lng file will contain all the text items that
NewView uses. Translate the text and save it, then NewView will use it.
You don't need to tell me about your translation files, but if you do I
will include them with NewView when I release it. At this time, no
translations have been done.
PMAPM Version 0.1 released as Open Source
PmApm is a Presentation Manager (PM) interface to APM/2. It allows to use
the different power-down methods that are integrated in APM 1.2 on OS/2
systems: "standby", "suspend" and "poweroff".
The binary and Source code had been uploaded to hobbes:

Hobbes Search:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?sh=1&button=Search&key=pmapm010.zip
Now Released open source under the GNU GPL license. Thanks to Cornelis
Bockemuehl for sharing the code with the OS/2 community.
PMDownloader updated
Eugene Romanenko has released an updated bug fix version of his great
file retriever http://eros2.by.ru/pmdownloader_en.shtml, which has many
unique features and now also a plugin for Communicator 4.61,
Mozilla/IWB2/Firebird.
DFSee 5.22 released (eCS fix and more ...)
Important fix for eCS 1.1 users, all DFSee CMD files will now correctly
start DFSOS2 instead of DFSWIN :-)
Then there is an important update to the LVM command, the "-c" option will
fix many "partitiontable may be corrupt" messages from LVM that are caused
by moved/deleted primary partitions.
FIXCHS can now set IBM/DFSee or PowerQuest style CHS values.
This might help to make Partition-Magic happy ...
The PART listing now also shows the difference between the older FDISK
bootmanager with INT13 limit, and the new LVM one that can handle booting
beyond cylinder 1023 (I13X).
DFSee is the SWISS-ARMY-KNIFE for disk and filesystem problems. With
FDISK-like displays, analysis and recovery, FIX commands, UNDELETE for
HPFS/NTFS, imaging and cloning. More details at:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/disk/dfsee522.zip
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/dfsee522.zip
Most important functional changes:
- DFSUNFD Support eCS 1.1 for all .CMD scripts (caused error 23)
- DELETE Automatic remove of LVM-info entry unless -L- is used
- LVM -c Show and remove obsolete LVM-info entries for primaries
- FIXCHS Support use IBM/PQ/MS dummy-CHS styles, updated msgs
- PART Label shows LVM I13X or FDISK MaxCyl:1023 type BMGR
- WALK Display the IBM/PQ/MS/BAD CHS style indicator
- PTE pid Fixed selection using a high pid value, seen as SN
- PART -w More specific 'NO active' warnings, 1st-disk/any-disk
- TxLib Global rename everything to TxLibrary definitions
- TxLib Fix centering of title/help text on narrow windows
Check DFS*.TXT files for details, all changes listed in DFSHIST.TXT
Registering DFSee will give you the right to use all 5.xx versions and get
support plus a reasonable amount of assistance by email. Existing 4.xx
registrations can be upgraded to 5.xx as well.
But even more important, it enables further development of DFSee!

PMView Pro 3.01 update
This is a bug-fix release.
The trial version can be downloaded at http://www.pmview.com
Registered users, please use your download account info to retrieve the
full version.
The update corrects the following issues:
Both Windows & OS/2:
-Zooming may crash PMView
-Trial version: The evaluation period (time) is migrated from PMView 2000
with the rest of the settings (this was not intended).
-There is no way of knowing if PMView is showing the default or actual
resolution of a file in the File Info dialog. v3.01 now contains the text
"(Default)" after the resolution if the actual resolution is unknown.
-Minimizing the PMView main window causes the scroll bar positions to be
reset to their leftmost/uppermost positions when the window is restored.
-The red and blue colors are swapped when displaying JFIF (JPEG) files
with RGB color space. (Such files are not common).
-The "ExposureTime" field in the EXIF data is not always displayed as a
fraction. How it is displayed depends on how the camera stored the data.
v3.01 will always display it as a fraction regardless of how it is stored.
OS/2 only:
-Loading an image when the main window is minimized crashes PMView.
-The info tip help in the File Open window may paint incorrectly when a
popup menu is shown.
-The info tip of the File Open window may appear when the cursor is
outside the window.
-Performance (speed) problem with conversion and EA Icon thumbnail
creation in directories with many files (>1000).
-EA Icon thumbnails cannot be created on drives that do not have write
permission enabled.
-Installer does not install an icon on Warp 3
-Installation fails if there is a space in the path name. (The v3.01
installer now has a notice telling not to use spaces in the installation
paths. The actual problem will be addressed in a future release when an
upgrade to the WarpIn installer is available that lets us solve the
problem).
