netlabs.org back online with a new CMS!
After a way too long time I finaly went to Hamburg for a complete server
update! I worked a lot on the backend the past months, we now have a
decent content management system (CMS) to keep our projects up to date!
Everyone should now be able to support us also with just a minimal HTML
knowledge! (you are very welcome to contribute, simply send an email to
ktk@netlabs.org :-)
Beside the HTML update I completely cleaned up the server, installed loads
of new deamons and wrote a bunch of REXX sccripts to clean up logs and so
on. Wow it's nice to work on the machine now :-))
Beside this I successfuly finished my exams (yeah!), now I'm writing my
diploma work an in January 2003 I'm a free man with plenty of ideas for
netlabs.org -> you will get much more in the near future, I promise!
You are welcome to browse the projects, the navigation is somewhat
different and the project detail pages look different as well. Odin
application database is better integrated in the new design now, but I
need some days to finish the wizzard as well to allow uploads. Plenty of
other changes are planned (including a rebranding to netlabs.org btw) but
I'm still too busy to finish it right now so it will change within the
next months, I promise!
Thanks a lot to Arne Blankerts for having a nice time in Hamburg and for
sure to n@twork for hosting netlabs.org on a excellent backbone!!
Enjoy!

RC5-64 HAS BEEN SOLVED!
For those that are interested. [Editor's note: There is an RC5/DES OS/2
client and an OS/2 team working on the contest - Team Warped. ] It was
announced by RSA Labs that the RC5-64 project found the winning key from
Distributed.net.
On 14-Jul-2002, a relatively characterless PIII-450 in Tokyo returned the
winning key to the distributed.net keyservers. The key 0x63DE7DC154F4D03
produces the plaintext output:
The unknown message is: some things are better left unread
Unfortunately, due to breakage in scripts (dbaker's fault, naturally) on
the keymaster, this successful submission was not automatically detected.
It sat undiscovered until 12-Aug-2002. The key was immediately submitted
to RSA Labs and was verified as the winning key.
For the rest of the report go to the following link.
http://distributed.net/pressroom/news-20020926.html
Distributed.net does say that they are looking into further projects in
the future.

the replacement of HW EnDIVE. The name "WarpOverlay!" is the new name for
formerly closed project in-testing, called HWVIDEO. Ok, maybe that was
more than just a few words. And now, in the name of enlightenment and
prosperity, here are a few more. #=) This project is easily distinguished from the HW EnDIVE project in the way
that it doesn't utilize any part of OS/2's DIVE (and therefore also
EnDIVE) subsystems, whatsoever. Regardless, it provides all the
functionality HW EnDIVE provided, as well as hardware-based overlay
support. It does this all through it's own, independant API. The result of
course, is a 2D acceleration solution for OS/2 application development. 25.09.2002 - Version 1.05 released Program URL: http://os2.kiev.ua/en/overlay.php http://www.laemmlin.net/mirror/overlay/overlay1_0_5.exe JEdit Version 4.03 update. jEdit: Open Source programmer's text editor. http://www.jEdit.org OVERVIEW OF CHANGES BETWEEN JEDIT 3.2 AND 4.0 jEdit 4.0 is a significant upgrade to 3.2; the major version number has
been increased as several parts of the editor have been rewritten for
improved performance, reduced memory footprint, and greater possibility

maintenance partition. New in version 2.7 is basic TCP/IP support. The default settings assume an IDE only setup, instuctions for adding SCSI
support are included in the defaults configuration file. If you need
extra space on the boot image (for instance if you added SCSI support),
instructions for making more room to the CD are included as well. Full
USB support is also enabled by default and defaults to one UHCI adapter.
Of course this can be fully configured. By default the script uses the
DANI drivers for accessing IDE and ATAPI devices as these are the most
stable. Again this can be configured. When creating a bootable CD, the script assumes you use RSJ for burning
CDs and that you have already attached the CD-R(W). A virtual 2.88MB
floppy should also be available. Instructions for using this script with
cdrecord and mkisosofs are included. For comments/questions: hrbaan@xs4all.nl JAlbum 2.3 JAlbum runs on all major operating systems (Windows, Unix, Linux and Mac

Based on the IBM2SS14 v3.0/1.01.00 driver. Whilst the socket services driver for TI cardbus bridges IBM2SS14.SYS
provied by IBM does it's job, it supports only some of the many TI chips.
To get IBM2SS14 working on my Dell notebook I patched the driver at some
places such that it detects *all* TI cardbus chips now (see list below).
There is no guarantee that it will work properly on chips other than the
originally supported ones!

* Incompatible changes
- jEdit now requires Java 2 version 1.3 or later. It will no longer work
with Java 1.1 or Java 2 version 1.2.
- Some aspects of the plugin API have changed; make sure your installed
plugins are their latest versions.
- If you added macros to the context menu or tool bar, or assigned
shortcuts to macros using jEdit 3.2.2 or earlier, you will need to
recreate those settings after upgrading to jEdit 4.0 since the way
macros are handled internally has changed.
- Clicking the middle mouse button no longer inserts the most recently
selected text by default. This can be enabled in the 'Text Area' pane
of the Utilities->Global Options dialog box.
- Two minor changes to the default shortcuts:
S+BACK_SPACE is now CS+BACK_SPACE (Delete to Start of Line)
S+DELETE is now CS+DELETE (Delete to End of Line)
* Major user-visible changes
- Rewritten buffer code: this results in decreased memory footprint,
faster file loading, _much_ faster directory search, and more.
- Rewritten folding code. Fold visibility can now be changed on a
per-text area basis, and "explicit" folding (where the buffer is
parsed for "{{{" and "}}}") is now supported, in addition to the old
"indent" folding. Plugins can add their own folding modes as well.
- Soft wrap has been added. The old "hard" wrap is still present as a
configurable option.
- Bracket matching now indicates the bracket scope in the gutter.
- Many improvements in the file system browser, among them coloring of
the file list based on file name patterns, and persistent tree
expansion state when a directory is reloaded.
- A framework is in place for context-sensitive editing features;
currently, the commenting commands use it to behave differently
depending on where the caret is positioned in a buffer, for example,
in HTML text or inline JavaScript.
- The window docking feature has been improved in terms of functionality
and appearance.
- Syntax highlighting has been added for the following file types:
- ActionScript
- BBj
- BibTeX
- Informix 4-GL
- Modula-3
- ObjectRexx
- Prolog
- SmallTalk
* Other user-visible improvements
- 'Complete Word' command now completes mode-specific keywords, in
addition to previously typed text.
- Search and Replace usability improvements.
- Better integration with MacOS X; jEdit now knows about type and
creator codes.
- Unicode files are automatically detected and opened as such.
- If "quick copy" is enabled, dragging with the middle mouse button
creates a selection without moving the caret. When the mouse button is
released the selected text is inserted at the caret position and the
selection is deactivated.
The quick copy feature is disabled by default, but can be enabled in
the 'Text Area' pane of the Utilities->Global Options dialog box.
- The font used to display user interface elements can now be changed in
the new 'Appearance' pane of the Utilities->Global Options dialog box.
- jEdit Frequently Asked Questions document, by John Gellene, is now
included as part of the online help.
- BeanShell 1.2b5 is included; this version fixes a number of bugs
present in 1.2b1 (which was bundled with jEdit 3.2.2).
- jEdit now has better support for Java 2 version 1.4.
September 25
Changes
in the final version 1.0 since the beta version from July 2002:
- online
help implemented,
- "nicer" user interface incl. info screen,
- set a maximum time for finding the color combination (optional),
- small
bugfixes.
Currently, the program is available only in english.
