Philadelphia OS/2 Mtg: Wed, Sep 25

. PHILADELPHIA OS/2 USER GROUP
http://www.phillyos2.org

The Philadelphia OS/2 User Group invites all interested computer users to attend the September monthly meeting:

. *** SEPTEMBER 25th MEETING AGENDA ***
. -- TECHNICAL UPDATE SESSION --

What did we do during summer vacation?

Three whole months! Do you know what's happened in the world of computing during the three months since our last meeting? At our first meeting of the new season, on September 25th, we'll have a tech update session to review and discuss many of the new happenings of the last three months. Here's a sampling of some of the more newsworthy items to be dioscussed ...

- New chips from AMD and Intel
- Media PCs from Hewlett-Packard
- Linux marketing efforts heating up at IBM and Sun
- New Linux releases
- New OS/2 software releases
- A new version of Java
- WorldCom goes belly up,
- VoiceStream is now T-Mobile
- Dell to bundle Corel Office Suite
- More Microsoft patches (OK, so some things never change!)
- The new XP Service Pack (Wait! Don't install it immediately)
- The OS/2 privacy leak (How many folks know about this one?)

At our September 25th meeting, we'll provide tech updates and an opportunity for our usual rousing group discussions. Come get the updates, ask questions, and (hopefully) even get some answers.

Other agenda items include U/G business items, OS/2 news, new releases, raffles, and the usual free refreshments.

Mark the date and time: Wednesday, September 25th at 7:00pm. OS/2 meetings are open and free for OS/2 users, their guests and others interested in learning about OS/2 and associated technologies. We have a very full agenda, so also please try to be on time promptly by 7:00pm.

WE SUPPORT THE JAVA LOBBY: http://www.javalobby.org

Further information, directions to Episcopal Academy, and other useful information about the OS/2 U/G activities may be found on our web site at http://www.phillyos2.org, or contact U/G Leader Larry Lavins:

Atlanta OS/2 User Group Announcement

Due to current resource unavailability and the very small participation in recent years by the User Group membership, the Atlanta OS/2 User Group Executive Board has decided to put the User Group's monthly meetings on indefinite hold. The group (and the web site) will continue to exist and emails will be forthcoming to the mailing list when anything of note occurs. However, OS/2 has reached a stage in its lifecycle in which the monthly meetings may no longer be as useful to the membership as they may once have been.

The Atlanta OS/2 User Group and Golden Code remain committed to the OS/2 community. However, we believe that at the current time, the User Group meetings are no longer the best use of scarce resources.

Thank You,
Greg Shah
President, Atlanta OS/2 User Group

SCOUG meeting Sept. 21: Browsers and pizza

The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG) will be this Saturday, September 21, 2002 at 9:15 AM PDT, at Regal Lanes in Orange, 1485 N. Tustin Ave.

SCOUG's 9th Anniversary: Browsers and Pizza

First, the presentation will update us on what's new in browsers for OS/2 users. President Tony Butka, Treasurer Steven Levine, and board member Dallas Legan will each have a browser or two to try and tickle our fancy. It's always good to know what your options are.

Second, following the presentation we'll have some time for Q&A, so if you're having difficulties with something OS/2-related, be sure to ask for help about it.

Third, there's free stuff! As always, there will be free donuts and coffee. But, this month, that's not all. Plan on sticking around for lunch, because this is a pizza party to celebrate the 9th anniversary of SCOUG! We'll have a party-sized raffle with some great prizes. And every SCOUG member gets a SCOUG CD of the month (members who are not in attendance will get theirs in the mail). Finally, we'll even have an anniversary cake!

Definitely a meeting that should not be missed. Come help us celebrate 9 exciting years of actively supporting OS/2!

Help Desk chats are on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM PDT. If you've got a problem with hardware or software, join the chat and ask for help. Info is at http://www.scoug.com/chat/index.html.

OS/2 Help Desk and Networking SIG, Oct. 6th, 2002, 2 PM PDT, Chapman University in Orange:

SCOUG's in-person OS/2 Help Desk is held once a month at Chapman University, in room 203 of the Hashinger Hall Science building. SCOUG volunteers are there to help you work through your hardware and software problems.

While you're at the in-person Help Desk, take a look at what the Networking SIG is doing. It meets at the same time and place, so it's convenient to do both. What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon each month!

How to get to Regal Lanes:

From the 55 freeway, exit Katella Ave. heading west. Turn right (north) at the first major intersection onto Tustin Ave. At the next signal you'll find Regal Lanes on your right. It's across from the Toyota of Orange dealership.

There's lots of parking on the south side of the building. Enter from the east entrance of the building (farthest from Tustin Ave.), not the main (front) entrance to the facility. Take the stairs to the 2nd floor; meeting rooms (and restrooms) will be on your left.

Handicapped access is via an elevator by the front door.

OR: Go to http://www.scoug.com/directions.html; there is a map to Regal Lanes, plus a more detailed map & driving directions from Yahoo!

How to get to Chapman University:

There are two ways to get directions:
1) Go to http://www.scoug.com/warpexpowest/sitemap.html
2) Go to http://www.mapquest.com/ and enter the address 400 N. Center Street, Orange, CA.

You can park in any of the University lots for free on Sundays, but if you part on the street, watch the signs carefully or else risk getting a parking ticket.

Come to Hashinger Hall Science Building, room 203. It's on the second floor and there's an elevator for you to bring up your equipment.Br>

Come and join us!
